Re: [ANN] Datacoin - Censorship-Free Data Storage
by

Hi Everyone!

We've been maintaining the Datacoin testnet, and will keep doing so!
We also keep GPUs on reserve if the mainnet ever needs defending, right now we are letting others mine it so they can fill their bags! lol

We're in this for the long haul.
We will help with infrastructure building.

Decentralized data is key for the world, and Datacoin is a great simple option for everyone.
Soon more will get it. In the meantime, we'll keep the light on!

If anyone wants testnet coin or mainnet coin, just let me know!!
(note the testnet may need tweaking, i'm the only one mining it, and it only confirms about every 5 minutes at best, not the 1 minute it should --- but it works! Test Away!!)

Kind Regards,
DataSea and the HugPuddle team

I've always loved your outlook on DTC and its usefulness.
I'm in a bit of a tight spot concerning time right now and will be occupied for some time, but in the long run I'd also like to contribute and/or find more applications for DTC  Grin

Does anyone have any experience with Baikal repair service ?   Four of my Baikal's went down from an electrical storm .  Three are Giant B and 1 Giant X .  Is it worth the effort to repair them ?    I know the shipping will be steep .

     Thanks ,  James
Yea it depends on what's wrong hey.
If they go on, but don't hash and you can't access the Dashboard, but can ping it = you need to take the SD card out and give it a set IP.
If they go on, but don't hash and you can't access the Dashboard and can NOT ping it = you need to reflash the SD card or replace it with a new one.
If they go on and all 3 lights light up during startup you might be in luck - boards are fine and the problem lies elsewhere.
If they go on, but no blue lights light up during startup - there's something wrong with the board.

I'm currently sitting with one hash board which I cannot get to work for the life of me. I've fixed a few but this one... Disassembled, cleaned, went through it with a magnifying glass, applied new heatpaste.
I just can't get the blue light to go on during startup. It goes solid when the other 2 boards hash (tho itself doesn't hash).

If they don't go on at all... Something is most likely fried - should be able to see it when disassembling.
Eh, but it's a pain in the arse to send back with fees - and with the current profitability, I donno if it's worth the money sending back :/

If Giant B is about to dead, that what supposed to say users of L3++($0.47/day). Shocked
The profitability has recently decreased for the all miners, not only for Giant B.

Naron where are you ? You just logged in on May 20 2018 to support BAIKAL and then ? No activity ?
Newbie Naron where are you ? we need your opinion ! .............

You see people the ASIC companies they open new users here to support their ASIC sales ....

Etched a fun puzzle on Datacoin.
If you figure it out, you get a Bitcoin.

"This work is comprised of Satoshi Nakamoto's famous whitepaper words, scaled by Log N. Disparate ideas inspired Satoshi to create a solution to revolutionize modern socio-economics and industry. The work reflects on the elements that brought this technology to life, and challenges the underlying security model. "setgenerate true" for solo mining was removed in 0.13  - but it might still be useful for Datacoin.  Is there a way to bring it back?

The internal miner was removed in this commit.
Reverting the change will almost certainly lead to false virus detection.
We do not want to see Datacoin-Qt or the installer being quarantined nor do we want to pay protection money to the security suite vendors on a continual basis to whitelist us.

At least qt-i386 doesn't conflict with Windows Def. Can't speak for the others though.

-extro
Yes, this is possible. But a little later.

Which version of miner do your prefer.
There are options:
- embedded CPU miner.
- embedded server for external GPU miner (xpmclient).

Oh please include the embedded server for external GPU miner. This is going to be very useful to keep the network healthy and attract more miners.
I'm burning to make a GPU mining video.
I'm just waiting for this functionality to be implemented in a future version, because this currently only works (as far as I know) on v0.1.2 gunk beta, which about 11% people are using.
(Kind of redundant having a new wallet plus an old wallet just for mining)

Just a few questions:
Are those card hashrates on the front page on Windows or Linux?
And are they stock speeds or overclocked?

I can report 980 TI 18k sol/s, Windows 10, stock speed .

Hi Team,

Just a reminder.
Anyone can etch anything on Datacoin . . .

Red River of the North

Cost to etch - about 12 Datacoin (with no optimization or derezzing).
200.76 KB, etched in seconds.

Find this etch using https://Apertus.io and after Datacoin syncs, point Apertus to ROOT ID 9a7755a2cc2b65fd5b2f88d8c97ed6617d7b146205b5034e223c296955d026eb (instructions are in Help -> Info)

You can also locate it with our web portal at http://bitFossil.org, specifically here http://bitfossil.org/9a7755a2cc2b65fd5b2f88d8c97ed6617d7b146205b5034e223c296955d026eb/index.htm

Every picture or program we reference in this thread can be put on Datacoin Smiley

I am beginning to see the following in my debug.log.

PROCESSMESSAGE: INVALID MESSAGESTART

This means there is some other coin sharing our port number with a different Network ID.

Is there a place where people can see the ports being used by coin networks?

Since difficulty is low can we CPU mine this much like Primecoin back in the day?

I have 5 servers each with 128 cores that sit idle all day in a test environment. I cant find a CPU miner anywhere.

Any one have one that's pool capable?

Interesting... you can use this wallet https://sourceforge.net/projects/datacoin/ to CPU mine.
It contains an embedded CPU miner (select the amount of cores) if you would just like to test it out on one server first.
Otherwise, you can do what Chicago suggested.

About Deuter
Named after Deuterium – anuncommon and precious natural resource, Deuterseeks to emulate Deuterium’s rarity and value.
Deuter is a privacy focused coin and is based on a similar architecture to Monero called CryptoNote. What makes Deuter different is that it aims to have the same security
and privacy as the well-known privacy coins, but aims to be easier to use with added functionality.

Specifications
Name : Deuter Coin
Ticker: DTC
Total coins: 18.446 millions DTC
Algorithm: CryptoNight
Type : PoW
Block time target : 120 seconds
Coin maturity : 10 blocks
Difficulty retarget : Each block
Block reward : decrease each block
Transaction fee: 0.01 DTC
P2P Port: 18080
Rpc Port: 18081

There already exists a DTC, called Datacoin.
Short history: It used to be present on many exchanges when it started 2013 e.g. Bittrex, Bter, C-CEX, Comkort, BTC38, Coins-E etc. It collapsed in June 2016 because the developer left for unknown reasons, but saw new life when new developers came on board early last year. It has since been revived. I guess you guys didn't see its listing was "hidden" on coinmarketcap.

See the following thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2188160.0
(Revived) Listing on Coinmarketcap: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/datacoin/

It's due for a 3rd exchange next month. I suggest you change that "ticker"

Tell me how much the cpd should issue 280x card, it gives me 10 cpd
9-10 cpd on xpm miner = 160 cpd on dtc miner.

CPD is directly related to the Cunningham Chain Length parameter in your config file.
It can be changed to 9 or 10 for stable results for current or older cards.
Just remember to change the corresponding sieve layers number.
Having 10 will show lower CPD with one or two digits, but won't affect your chance to solve blocks. I've tested this over a period of 5 days.
9 can show CPD with two or three digits, again not affecting your chance to solve blocks. I'm using 9 as a standard.

Have a look at what the miner uses.
Most people seem to be using 9 (the higher CPD) when posting results for reference cards, so try change yours to 9 to compare.

*Tip, when comparing, use 1 card at a time, since this algorithm is heavily reliant on CPU threading, which can easily skew your numbers due to a bottleneck with more cards.

Stop here , no more showing, is this working ?

Yes, but you are being throttled by your CPU.
In fact, most people are. You need at least 1 thread per card for effective mining.
Otherwise you'll notice a split in chains per day (cpd) among the cards.

Can Datacoin be somehow useful in medicine? Like storage for medical history?
Or can be like capsule for other blockchains?

This could also be incorporated into the Internet of Things.
Certainly possible. With proper integration, it contains real business potential.
Personal data can be linked offline by companies.
Datacoin is adapt for record keeping.

The multiple GPU features does not work for me.
Adding --device 0,1,2,3,4,5 only splits the Hashrate between all the cards.
I have to run multiple instances of this v2 miner for it to hash properly, each with its own device. Will test if it crashes less.

I guess, because its also a problem i have, that the issue could be the INTEL GPU which is platform 0, miner tries to use that instead of discrete card and fails, any opinion?

Yea, sometimes switching to platform 1 solves the issue, forcing it to use the GPU instead of onboard.
What miner are you using?

I just made an interesting observation regarding headless displays and maybe also applies for ZenoDiac:

In Windows 10 it happens thst the order of Platforms is volatile when Intel GPU drivers are installed, because with monitor attached or much stress on GPU the Nvida (may also happen with AMD) is platform 0 but without anything platform 0 is Intel and platform 1 is Nvidia. Therefore it can happen that you instead run the Intel iGPU or even CPU when in wrong order.

I will try implementing something that allows auto detection, but currently when platform 0 device 0 is only giving 3 digit sols where there should be more than 5k, then try again with platform 1 device 0. Sometimes this may fix it.

Great observation.
Using platform 1, device 0 works and it is hashing properly at around 15k/s now.
Thanks

However, you have to remove the hotfix for the hashrate to stay constant for headless displays after disconnecting from teamviewer.

@Monayman @goedi

I see you're also mining with 980ti/980.
Have a 980ti myself. I can't get it to hash properly (v12 or v13) getting like 100 sol/s, with or without hotfix it doesn't make a difference. Also using G3900 cpu. Perhaps you know of something I can do Huh

Batch file as follow
lolMiner-mnx.exe --server eu.minexpool.nl --port 9999 --platform 0 --device 0 --user XKJRCWtcKC8CFsoMdXgmFF9tbMsQVvK4y8.BigZeno --enable-nv-hotfix

GeForce drivers are up to date
I can see it's not trying, cause the temperature isn't going up. Just casually working out 100sol/s.
