-13C outside..
It died a few times because it was too cold, no lights at all when I reboot..
My box insulates for noise and vents the heat outside the box, but....
I have removed the hose so that it's just blowing out air into the box and what gets out, gets out so some of the heat is being recirculated and it works okay

Sustainable income from Blockchain/Cryptocurrency?
by
Zephon
on 18/07/2017, 05:41:54 UTC
Hi guys,

I've been making a few bucks here and there from cryptocurrencies, nothing sizeable since I'm sticking to the safe path, playing with only what I can afford to loose.
So far, I've seen a few places I could have made a lot more if I had just throw in everything I've got in there, but then again, who hasn't bought and sold one coin or the other just before a huge peak in price....
I recently found out about giga-watt mining facility and have been thinking about it lots.
My current thoughts are, if I had just enough space in the facility to support maybe 5 Antminer L3+, my monthly outcome after costs will be about 5,000USD at the current exchange rate. That's more than twice my monthly income... I know there's no guarantee it will remain profitable so the next steps for me would be to quickly build up something locally that would have a stable monthly returns, not affected by the prices of any crypto currency.. Something like real estate depending on how much I'm able to save up in cash before seeing a sizeable decline in mining profits.

I was wondering, is anyone here making plans of taking advantage of Mining, Staking, Trading, ICO, masternode or anything else out there to build out a sustainable means of income?
If you're working on something, making plans or already succeeded in creating a sustainable income, I think we the people would like to hear what you're doing..

Thanks

UPD:

1. CMGR function added.
Now you can see CMGR (Compound Month Growth Rate) for your assets

2. Automatic performance logging added.
Now you set a Timer to write your Portfolio Performance

Re: ⚡⛏️[ANN] Giga Watt: Best Home for your Mining. Starts today!
by
Zephon
on 04/07/2017, 19:55:14 UTC
First of all, I am very interested in the project, but I ask myself a few questions..

If I understand it correctly I need token to get a place in the facilities. At the same time, I get access to discounted electricity prices.
In addition, I have to buy my own mining hardware to be able to operate it there.
Is this correct?

I'm thinking now ... Mining hardware ages very quickly, and is in a year already not as efficient as today.

1) Am I now responsible for keeping the hardware up to date and to replace it regularly?
2) What happens with my outdated hardware when this is exchanged?
3) When can we buy the Hardware on https://giga-watt.com/ again?

Thanks in advance!

1) You're responsible if you want peak performance but a miner stays profitable for a good amount of time, so you could continue mining as long as you can pay the 69 cent fee per day.
2) Someone was going to email customer support and ask if they get shipped to you, they never posted a reply though.
3) When it next comes available, it sells out very quickly though.  It currently may be more effective to buy elsewhere and ship to them timewise.

In case any one is wondering..
I asked about sending my miner 2 weeks ago after buying WTT, response below:

==========
Hi xxxxx,
Thanks for the message.
We can sell you the S9 today if you are able to pay BTC.
These are scheduled to ship from the manufacturer mid-August.
Please let us know if you'd like to buy and we will send the BTC invoice.

For existing miners, we are maxed out on power for taking hosting at this time so the discussion is only for future power batches, likely in September (batch 3).
==========

So you probably want to confirm first before deciding if you're buying from them or buying and shipping there.
They're currently out of miners to sell at the moment though..

In your Ether wallet.
Add custom token.
Name it MONACO or whatever you like.
Address: 0xB63B606Ac810a52cCa15e44bB630fd42D8d1d83d
Decimals: 8

Refresh.
It will be displayed correctly now.

Done, and it shows up..
I'm guessing no updates yet from Monaco when it will be trading?

During the time of some big ether token based ICO, ETH network get congested and the recent one we have was similar congestion. If they are aware of this situation than I think they will send your ETH after they solve their issue or when ETH network get healthy again.

Hi Guys,

Does anyone use CEX.io?

I made a withdrawal 2 days ago 6/21 00:19GMT to myetherwallet (using ledger nano s) and I don't even see the transaction on etherscan....
I emailed CEX and got an email back..

Dear xxxxx,

We are aware of this issue , this issue is not only with CEX.IO but with ETH itself. The funds will not be lost, all we request is for your patience .

Kindly check this article: https://support.cex.io/hc/en-us/articles/115009379228-ETH-transactions-on-maintenance

Re: I need quiet in my house! Sound control techniques for S9 miners?
by
Zephon
on 15/03/2017, 08:20:47 UTC
Curious to whether or not you have a garage.. i went straight from an S2 to an S7 and the S7 litteraly made me jump when it first kicked on lol. I ran it on the house for a few days and it was pretty much unbearable.

I ordered this and stuck it in he garage:
https://www.amazon.com/LEA-Networks-NetSocket-200Mbps-Filtered/dp/B00XB6WKPI/ref=sr_1_1?srs=8320164011&ie=UTF8&qid=1457644742&sr=8-1&keywords=Netsocket
(Though currently unavailable, I vouch for LEA, it does the job)

Here is a variation. (Im not familiar with this company though it serves the same purpose)
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Powerline-Adapter-Starter-TL-PA2010KIT/dp/B00AWRUIY4/ref=pd_sim_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=SJ0M9RBY1WZF7GWRH0KS

Litteraly internet through the walls. Plug one in and plug an ethernet cable from the router to the device. vice versa on the other side accept from the miner to the device and you have a hashflow. * <-- that, i like that, *hashflow* lol

Later i found that due the the warmer climate that i now reside in, temps were becoming an issue in an uncontrolled environment. Then came:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antminer-s9-KNC-Titan-GAW-WarMachine-Zeus-thunder-fan-air-duct-shroud-cooler-/172253766558?hash=item281b1fe39e:g:o2QAAOSwMNxXbv-R
(Also vouch for them. They have a personal domain which i dont remember, but send a thank you note wih url attached upon delivery of pruduct)
Get an attachable tube from a hardware store and dump the hot air out a window if possible.

One last thing is the duct will cause a rise in temps. A buddy of mine, who gets a kick out of the nature of bitcoin surprised me with a good air blower to help with my cooling issues. (i would say this could cool two units if placed right and need be)
Good up to 105°F:
https://www.amazon.com/Lasko-Max-Performance-Pivoting-Utility/dp/B00BT9C9F0/ref=pd_sim_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XCDJ0C7G4A7F9J08WE2Y

There are other, more affordable blowers, though they might only cool a single unit.

Sorry if this was a bit excessive. I'm really bored... and also trying to help you out  Wink

Good ideas..
Exactly what I was thinking of, besides the air blower.
I'll post pic and results when I start building but for now still waiting for parts to arrive.
A friend of mine mentioned it should be cooler with smaller diameter air intake and larger diameter exhaust..
Will have to test that theory

My understanding is that they run hotter and do not have the same efficiencies as other PSUs, which is odd because servers are extremely common.
Run hotter - yes. The HP supplies will get uncomfortably warm to touch @ full load but that is normal. They are made to run like that for years.

As for the eff -- they were made in 80Plus ranging from Bronze (pretty poor) and currently up to Platinum (excellent). Prices for the PSU's reflect that: 80Plus Bronze ones can be had for as little as $15-20 and prices go up from there.

I wondered what others do for noise..
At first, I had it in the laundry room in my apartment.... On top the excessive heat and noise, the maximum I got was 9.259 Th/s.
It was becoming unbearable so I took it out to the balcony, put it inside my small bedside table with shelves (the air inlet facing the inside and air outlet facing the open side, then covered the open side with a pillowcase. Balcony is covered space to not worried about snow falling and melting on it.
Sorry I was more concerned about what to do with the monster than collecting stats so no rpm and temp information from before.
It's -8c out there and my S9 is running at 83c. Fan speed came down from about 4000rpm fan3 and 6000rpm fan6 to 3,960rpm fan3 3000rpm fan6 .
Highest Chip temp 83 = 28c
Currently mining at 13TH/s and more sometimes.. I saw the stats on my pool dashboard reach 14.78 Th/s at one point.

My project this week is building a sound insulated box with in and out vents. then I will start worrying about keeping it cool in summer. (I suppose a topic for new thread)
Is anyone working on something similar? Seems small sound insulated server racks cost more than the machine itself.

Hey guys,
Noob, found this site while searching for a 110v psu, found a solution and thought I'd share for others.
ParallelMiner has HP Server PSU with adapter for running antminer S7 and S9 for 119buck.
Got my S9 three weeks ago and finally able to run it.
Now I got to deal with the heat and noise..
