Re: CoinTracking - Profit/Loss Portfolio and Tax Reporting for Digital Currencies

Hello.  I'm looking for help understanding how to properly code a loan (to myself using collateral) such that the cost basis is coming up correctly in the US-based tax report.  I thought I was doing it correctly, but after running the tax report...it's basically giving me 0 starting cost basis on proceeds I used the loan for, which obviously is significantly increasing my taxable income more than it should.

I can't find an FAQ article on this (apologies if there is one), so hopefully someone can help.

What I did was first create a new "exchange" for the place where the loan originates (we'll call this Anchor). Say the loan was $1000.

Transfer $1000 from Anchor to Wallet.  This would create a balance of:
-$1000 in Anchor (negative $1000) and a positive $1000 balance in Wallet.  As the negative cancels out the positive, this creates a net of $0.  To me, this works because I want the liability (the loan amount) to be counter to my assets.  Assets - Liabilities = Owner's Equity.

Then, when interest accrues on the loan, I debit Anchor with Interest, increasing the negative (amount I owe back).

Finally, when I want to pay the loan + accumulated interest back, I do the reverse transfer back to Anchor from my wallet, to cancel out the loan.

This does what I want it to in Cointracking but my tax reports are completely screwed up because of it.

How do I code this properly so I don't screw up my tax basis on the "income" I get from the loan (which isn't actually income)?

Thank you in advance.

Is there something wrong with the login system to the website?  I've never had an issue previously, and now I am.

It's saying that my username doesn't have an @ symbol in it where an email address would be required...my username isn't an email address. When I click forgot login and try to use my username + email to retrieve my (not forgotten) password, it says user not found. I've been using the service for over two years...what's the deal?

Nice - I've definitely got some bags to unload to add to my CZE pile. Especially useful ahead of CZE's upcoming exchange listing too.

Hi, Devs!

About version 0.5.1:

 - about ccminer/hive compatibility: there are problems with supporting API commands "threads" and "summary"

http://prntscr.com/k8m38m

- about json config: miner will not start if, for example, I not specified intensity.
- If I use decimal values in "", it will not start

Thank you.

API works fine!

Only one method "summary" is here

Has 0.5.1 been added to Hive yet? I tried seeing if changing the ending of the 0.4c download link would work but it didn't...

Today We added t-rex 0.4c as custom miner package to HiveOS. Use example at bottom "Wallets" page

Could you please update the link to the right download file in the template? It references tdxminer, not t-rex.  It can be fixed manually it appears (using the link on page 9) but I'm still having issues trying to get the miner to work properly. It keeps giving me an error message saying "cannot understand -a lyra2z argument" or something.
Thank you for your feedback. Download link will be fixed.

Also you can check manual how its work - https://github.com/HaloGenius/hiveos-custom-miner/releases/tag/t-rex

Thank you - I will try to fix it, but assuming the download did work properly the first time after manually changing the link (it seems to have), I'm not understanding why the default template (that you created) would not otherwise work except for changing the pool url and wallet (i.e. giving me an issue with the -a argument). Perhaps the password being left blank as Elitehash doesn't require it is the reason? Thinking out loud to help other users here who are having the same issues as I am.
if password is not requirded by pool then set is as x (= don't leave blank)

It's my own repository with my works what i'm doing for HiveOS.

Adding in a password (x) for Elitehash (vs. leaving it blank as pool doesn't require) fixed it. Thank you.

Not sure what you mean. The link you posted is 404 whereas the one I provided is working.

I think I was having this issue as well....after updating the link the miner will not start, but it's not due to a download error. I think it's a HiveOS error...I keep getting an error message saying something to the effect of "...does not recognize -a lyra2z argument (whatever is the default in Hive template for the argument).

HiveOS persons can anyone help sort how to get this working in Hive? What did you do to the template wallet Hive created for 0.4c?

Re: [ANN] Hash Auger 1.8.6: Multi-Pool Mining Manager for NVIDIA Cards
by
Zirillian

2) Just downloaded 1.8.6 this morning. Some time after benchmarking the new ccminer-phi and nanashi algos, I got a message saying that both algorithms cannot communicate with ahashpool while trying to mine lyra2v2, and would stop mining with those miners. Looking at the benchmarks now, it seems those miners benched higher than tpruvot and thus won out. Not sure what the issue here is, but say it's a fix on your end...does HA go back and try using those miners again at some other time to see if the issue is fixed, or do I need to manually rebenchmark at some point?

Here's a follow-up on this issue after some testing.  The error messages were not as clear as they could have been and made it seem that the problem was with the miner and not the pool. It was probably just a coincidence that the error occurred with these two new miners based on that they both tend to benchmark pretty high with Lyra2v2.  I have been mining on AHashPool with both miners and haven't had an issue yet. Basically this situation happens in response to a stratum connection failed.  Unfortunately, the current settings might be a little too aggressive at responding to this type of error. I'm going to adjust the error messages and increase the tolerance a bit to better handle brief interruptions in connectivity. As I noted before, the software will automatically resume using an algorithm or pool suspended due to a communication error an hour after the most recent error occurred.

Yeah it definitely looked like a pool error and not a miner error...probably just coincidence but thought I'd mention since I had never seen before and coincidentally had very recently turned on the two new miners.

Nicely done on the recent updates, HA. I've been running pretty darn smooth for the past 4-5 days. Normally I'd have some sort of miner crash that would cause some heartache (usually in the middle of the night while sleeping), but I've been running quite smooth the last few days with no major issues at all.  I really like the recent improvements with the GPU Manager, additional miners added, etc.

I do have some feedback/questions for consideration with your ongoing development:

1) You're valiant efforts at trying to maintain a level head despite the criticism here/communication issues are not going unnoticed lol.  Try not to get too bogged down in it; you are very loyal to your users but have to draw a line somewhere.

3) Side note from a few versions back when you reenabled alexis, and this is also in response to others posting on this thread...I do realize alexis benches higher sometimes but HA is right that it is inherently unstable. It crashes for me (not all the time, on occasion). I disabled it on all algos and no issues with crashes anymore...I had to check the logs to figure out why the hell HA would crash in the middle of the night and miss out on several hours of mining. Alexis was it.

4) Real life scenario here of helping me understand the new GPU manager.  So a couple days ago I recently did a full refresh on all benchmarks, saved it as a profile in the GPU manager, and let it go.  Now, after having updated to 1.8.6 with new miners to benchmark...are those results going to get added back in to my template in the GPU manager? Right now it's not looking like they are auto added back, and I'm confused on the appropriate way to go about doing that that doesn't override all the actual rate benchmarks for my 8 GPUs that have been accumulating since the template creation.  Here is my guess at how to do this..please tell me if I am right. A) in the GPU manager go to benchmarks section, B) copy benchmarks in from GPU0 and in the bottom "Apply template to these devices" click GPU0 ONLY, C) repeat the same operation from GPUs 1-7 one by one, then resave the template.

Keep up the good work.

What type of profit "logic" is used in this one ?

I have been liking the "PLUS" logic in NEMOS compared to 24hr or Estimated.

MM has its own logic. Its include all API data from the pools (24H actual + 24 & Cur estimated).

Great, thanks for the answer, so it does much more than just a basic pull of one API parameter.

MM - I'd be interested in hearing more on this question from sundownz.  I've tried a lot of profit switching software (all the major ones) and one thing I do notice on MM is that it switches far less frequently than others.  That might just be attributable to the one pool I'm on right now not varying as much (Blazepool), but I've been going >12 hours for a few days in a row without switching on algorithms (i.e. no more than two switches per day) and I'm generally not sure why. Every once in a while I do see that by multiplying my hash rate * estimates on the pool that I might get more if I switched right that second, but probably not a lot.

Clearly you have some cool stuff going on in the background that is either limiting switches or taking way more data into account than just the pool (as your comment suggests).  I'm not complaining at all, just curious as to how it's working.

HA - thanks for your work on copying settings over between cards.  Putting one additional request out there...can you make a master "switch" list where you add the ability to turn (anything you can) on and off in totality? I specifically care about the ability to turn on/off algorithms that apply all at once to all 8 cards, rather than having to do it individually as it is now, but the concept could apply to quite a few other "switches" you have throughout the settings that could all be put in one place vs. having to individually tick things off for every instance. Having individual switches is great, but master overrides can be useful too.

I haven't forgot about this.  I was going to start working on it a few days ago, but then one of the big pools went offline for a few hours and I took that as an opportunity to improve the way the software handles that type of error to minimize downtime.  Also, recent discussions inspired  me to look at ways to improve mining performance in general.  However, creating a centralized device manager is still one of my priorities for 1.9.  I want to accommodate users with mixed rigs (1070s, 1080s, etc) that may not want to apply the same set of settings to every card as well as users that only use the same type of card in the same rig.  Basically, my design intent is to replace the current list of device panels with a display that doesn't require as much scrolling.

Yep sounds good. Thanks for addressing.

Any reviews or comments from people regularly using this new program?

I have mostly focused on alt coins that seem interesting to me but when I started back in 2014 my strategy was more focused on the current most profitable coin.  I think both strategies have their merits and I'm interested in projects like this one that aim to shift mining to profitable coins.

It would be good if we could see comparable metrics between this program and others for how well they perform.  I know that was a big thing back in 2014 with various websites and posts on bitcointalk reporting on what was the most profitable rather that be mixed mining or targeted.

While I'm no expert and have only been mining a couple months, on both individual coins and algoswitching programs such as this...I can offer my perspective.

I have tried (for algo-profit switching):
AwesomeMiner
Hash Augur
Nemos/NPlus
and now just started trying MindMiner two days ago.

I think they are all going to be generally pretty comparable at the end of the day (from a profit perspective). While I don't have stats for you as to which one might switch more profitably (this would be super hard/time consuming to do as the only accurate way to do it is to divide your rig into pieces and then flip pools etc. etc.), I think they would all end up within a small margin of eachother.  Some have pros over others, and some have larger cons than others. At the end of the day, I think it's best to try them all and settle on the ones you feel comfortable with and, most importantly, provide the following:
a) general ease of use and ability to tweak to your liking. More ability to tweak does not necessarily mean better.
b) the pool offerings you want
c) whether you also want the ability to mine individual coins and have them paid out to your wallet (Hash Augur does this, AM too I believe).
d) the fee they charge. AM is a flat rate (depending on what features you want), HA is 1.38888% (repeating, of course), MM is 1%, Nemos is 0.5%ish).
e) (this is a big one) how responsive are the devs to user concerns/errors/etc. and in conjunction, how often do they update their software for that and new miners, tweaks, etc.  MM and HA are very fast/good about this.
f) whether you need a dedicated GUI. MM does not have this, whereas the others do. This does not necessarily make MM any better or worse than others, just pointing out.  If you're comfortable with making tweaks (a) via the config files, then it's not really a big thing (as long as you don't change things often).

My suggestion is try them all for a couple days at a time and see how it goes. Chances are by the end you'll know which one you want to stick with. I am just beginning tests on MM (but am admittedly being limited by an issue I posted on above that MM is fixing) to see how I rank MM amongst the others, but right now it seems promising, but does lack certain capabilities that would be nice to see eventually (being able to mine individual coins on certain pools like Pickaxe etc. if mining the individual coin is more profitable than a switcheroo pool site being one, and an easier way to make tweaks in one consolidated place another).

As for pools, I personally like Blazepool. US based, never downtime, and coins are being added all the time.

Sorry if this is documented somewhere, but is there a way to add a "cooldown" period before switching coins? I have 1080ti's and they are finicky...when benchmarking or (sometimes) when changing quickly from one algo to another, some of my cards will glitch and lose contact/stop mining and only a hard reset of my computer will correct it.

It's not your software's fault at all that is causing it, but having the ability to introduce a 10 second switching period or whatever (similar to how other miners do it but honestly not sure how much time they add in) to limit quickswitches would be helpful.

HA - regarding the update to allow for Pickaxe pool. Can you check to make sure it's working appropriately?  It's telling me I would earn $0.00 mining LUX (phi algo), when I definitely earn quite a lot more than that mining individually on BSOD or algo on other pools.  Something might be wrong with the formula that brings in current estimates or something.

Edit: I should note that I believe I followed the directions in the OP about only turning it on when it's disabled and a wallet is ready for it. I might have API'd it out though as it now admits it can't fetch the rates from Pickaxe.  How do I go about fixing this you think?

Can you please help me understand how to decipher what coin is more profitable than any other?  I hope my question is clear.   I read comments where it is discussed that one coin or another is more profitable at a given moment.  What is the indicator or information that tells me this?   I feel that what I am asking will be obvious once explained so I apologize in advance if I should know this. 1.8 adds use mine coin parameter and unless I know what coin I am going after it is of little use.
I read the FAQ and my eyes glossed over about halfway through.  you have done an outstanding job in the past explaining  in detail all of my questions.  Thank you.

Probably best to just pick a pool that autoexchanges to BTC (Blazepool is my suggestion) and let that run for a while until you get the hang of this, vs. worrying about mining individual coins per the 1.8 update. All it does is allow you to mine individual coins (e.g. RVN) on autoexchange pools like Zergpool...but you can already do this on other pools (e.g. Pickaxe, BSOD), so that functionality was already there.  More trouble than it is typically worth as you then have to set up a wallet to mine that individual coin to, then transfer it to an exchange to sell it, etc.  If you're just learning, just do an autoswitch pool and let it run.
