[2016-10-20] Hillary Clinton’s campaign thinks Bitcoin is too “libertarian”
by
a7mos
on 20/10/2016, 01:37:54 UTC
Might the Democrats want to get in on this new fundraising avenue?

That’s exactly what Stan Stalnaker—a founder of the digital currency “Ven”—asked Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta in an email last year as revealed on Tuesday by WikiLeaks.

“As we discussed, Bitcoin is being used on the Republican side and could be a useful tool, but we think Ven is a better choice for your campaign due to its environmental benefits, identity metrics and closed loop status,” Stalnaker wrote in a May 13, 2015 email to Podesta. The two had met prior at a Clinton fundraiser.

Podesta forwarded the email to campaign tech aide Teddy Goff, adding, “I don’t send all the crazy ideas I hear about at fundraisers your way, but this seems interesting and legit.”

“Essentially digital currency with a green angle as opposed to bitcoin’s libertarian Ayn Rand schtick,” Podesta wrote of Stalnker’s proposal that the campaign use Ven as an alternative.

“Would you get some members of your team to meet with Stan when he’s in NYC later this month to see if it’s worth a real conversation?” Podesta asked. “Apologies for the slow reply – yes, of course, feel free to introduce and we will set up a meeting, “Goff replied three days later.

I think in Argentina, uber drives are accepting bitcoin btw, don't remember all the history behind this...
Yeap, QR code is a good idea for tips.

Uber does not accept bitcoin at all.I googled it and I found they just accept xapo debt card as this site mentioned so I do not see any bitcoin transaction here to say they accept it.

Re: Cloud Minig Vs Hardware Mining Which is best ?
by

on 13/10/2016, 20:10:46 UTC
there is nothing called cloud mining. they are all scam sites and untrustworthy. even if you find a paying site, you may not get your ROI before they go scam. hardware mining is expensive so not all people can afford it and the profitability depends on the electricity price in your place

[2016-10-12] Bitcoin Wallet Blockchain.info Recovers from DNS Hijacking Attack
by
a7mos
on 12/10/2016, 22:20:25 UTC
Blockchain.info, the largest web-based Bitcoin wallet, suffered a DNS hijacking attack today when users accessing the site were pointed to the wrong servers, exposing visitors to all sorts of attacks.
The incident took place around 11:00 GMT when the site's DNS information changed from CloudFlare to a cheap hosting provider based in Tulsa, USA.

Paranoid Bitcoin users noticed the DNS hijacking right away and started warning each other on Reddit and Twitter.

Blockchain.info took their website offline as they fought to reclaim their website's DNS records and point them to the right servers.

Blockchain users should change their passwords

DNS hijacks are extremely dangerous since an attacker can point a site's visitors to his server where he runs a clone of the original website.

During the time Blockchain.info DNS information led users to the wrong IPs, an attacker could have collected login credentials for everyone authenticating on the fake portal.

Users that accessed Blockchain.info today should change their wallet passwords right away.

The same goes for users of mobile or desktop apps that use the Blockchain.info API, which makes queries to the same DNS server.

this can happen only if all people who are using USD start using bitcoin. other than this it is impossible to happen. no one will pay that amount of money to buy only one btc now when there are a lot of people willing to sell him for very cheaper prices

Re: Why people don't like coinbase?
by

on 09/10/2016, 19:21:42 UTC
Not everyone hates coinbase. who hates it does because it is a centralized website that does not give you any control over your bitcoin at all. also they are known for suspending any suspicious accounts. while others like it because it is easy to buy and sell btc from them if they support your country and it pays the txs fees

Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Will Replace Dollar Soon?
by
a7mos
on 09/10/2016, 19:15:53 UTC
I am not sure . dollar and fiat currencies still has its own strength. I think bitcoin and the dollar could together build a system in the world economy. dollar became the main media in the real world and bitcoin as the main currency in the digital world.

Dollar is only depending on the petro-dollar system and once it falls, dollar may collapse. it is just a matter of time before that happen. but bitcoin wont replace it. a new fiat currency will emerge and people will trust it again

Of course yes, most of bitcoin mining network is controlled by china. I have read before that if China had an internet problem for a day or something, this will fork bitcoin to two separated blockchains
