It's been a while since I posted (due to work), but I just wanted to say that I am very happy I came on board when I did. Evan and Kyle, you guys are awesome. I don't know how your brain functions Evan, but keep doing what ever you are doing to make it do what it does. Back in Feb I had only hoped Darkcoin would make it this far. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and time.

The NSA is doing a great job marketing darkcoin:

If they can store all phone calls made, keeping a store of all bitcoins and linking them down the line is trivial

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/nsa-surveillance-program-reaches-into-the-past-to-retrieve-replay-phone-calls/2014/03/18/226d2646-ade9-11e3-a49e-76adc9210f19_story.html

Even though they didn't directly mention Darkcoin, do they still qualify for a Bounty for marketing? Or should it go the Washington Post writer? I doubt LimLims would want them to know his wallet address. Hope they can wait till DarkSend is ready.

It can be a good thing to open different topic, for mining hardware and setting.
And put result in main forum when done.

Help miner is not a bad thing i think.

how do you defend against attackers who try to DOS by requesting to be part of a joined transaction but then fail to sign off on the transaction? This is the big problem with coinjoin that prevents it from scaling well. have you guys solved it somehow?
There is a penalty for leaving the connection before the darksend completes.

And how does that work?

You put up a collateral transaction that only the current master node can cash to get into the pool. If you misbehave in any way, the master node will cash it. Each time that costs 0.1DRK, so it could add up pretty quick if you're attacking it.

Masternode's are chosen randomly using a deterministic algorithm that can't be tampered with. This has a nice side effect, people will want to run full nodes to get the random fees. So we should have a pretty strong base of nodes.

What does it take to run a full node? Do we need more?

The kgw exploit is real.

The problem is that the software will accept blocks that are timestamped earlier than previous blocks, (for good reasons) up to the median timestamp of the previous 11.

Kgw counts these as very fast blocks and adjusts the difficulty up by its 20% maximum.  Once.   But you can use that once to roll the timestamp back after five blocks that are long enough to drive the difficulty 20%lower each.

So the exploit is to start mining your own block chain, time stamping several blocks into the future far enough to get the maximum downward adjustment of difficulty each time.  Then jump backwards in time getting the maximum upward difficulty once.  Rinse, repeat,  and your chain gets ridiculous low difficulty and you mine a whole lot of blocks while advancing your timestamp not much further than the main chain.

When the time in the main block chain catches up, you release your own chain and force a reorganization, which allocates to you all the coins mined for the last umpty ump blocks.

I'm in the process of rewriting KGW for our purposes. I've spend a few hours thoroughly going through the code and I think I can come up with a better implementation that doesn't have these kind of problems. DarkGravity?  Grin

One coin(BTC) to rule them all,

One coin to premine them;

One coin to bring them all,

And in the darkness bind them.

I just wanted to bring this up from our good friend slyA. Ahhh, memories....

DarkSend Beta Version 3.5 (v8.9.7)

- Session ID's are now tied to the blockHeight, so they'll be much more stable. Some users were reporting stale DarkSend messages all of the time because they couldn't sync.

Documentation:
http://darkcoin.io/downloads/DarkSendv3.pdf
http://darkcoin.io/downloads/DarkSendDocumentation.pdf

Links:
Windows: http://darkcoin.io/downloads/beta/darkcoin-qt.exe
Ubuntu 64 qt: http://darkcoin.io/downloads/beta/darkcoin-qt
Ubuntu 64 daemon: http://darkcoin.io/downloads/beta/darkcoind

What's Next?
The next update is going to be a big one, it'll probably take me a week maybe.

Currently the network uses 1 master node, so it's a centralized implementation. I'm going to write some tamper proof logic to pick a random node from the network and elect it as the master. This is a neat implementation, because when you leave on your client it supports the network and you'll randomly receive fees when people try to attack DarkSend ( or turn off their clients in mid-transaction, lose their internet connection, etc ). We should see a really healthy amount of full nodes because of this, maybe even more than Bitcoin itself eventually.

Awesome! Can't wait to try it after work!

Thinking of mining Dark again.  With the current diff, how many darks can I expect with 4 - 280x's? Thanks.

Around 12-14 / day

Could you pls. share your settings ?, I mine w/ 3 280x ,  getting ca. 6-7 coins pr. day ...

Ok the 12-14 average is because of average difficulty being in the upper 300s last 2-3 days. It used to be 20-24 DRKs/day just before that. Your 6-7 coins/day is not too bad for 3 cards over the last 3 days.

All settings are being maintained here by forum member aNTi-Vlact https://docs.zoho.com/sheet/published.do?rid=12cbm2fe8ce55abb2476daa0f8c576b442d40&mode=html

I wish it could be added to OP!

There is a link to the list on the first page under Other Tools. GPU and CPU are on separate tabs.

I am planning on ordering Physical Darkcoins very soon, but I need a design for the back of the coin.

I was thinking where on the front it has the binary it should say: The only privacy-centric cryptographic currency.

With something else in the middle.

Please post some ideas up SOON, who ever's design gets picked will get a free physical coin!!!!

 Grin

I was actually thinking of doing the same, the front designed to look like the coin image, the back flat with the security hologram with priv key underneath it. I found black security holograms I thought looked good.

Would certainly be interested in purchasing some physical coins.  If they had actual DRK value, that would be even better!

I will look into maybe leaving the back blank, and could add on a holographic sticker with QRCode with public address and you could peel off to get private key.

Is there more interest in doing that?

I think a little bit of design would be fine. Maybe put the release date, the Devs names, or just something of importance with the coin. I think the QR code would be a cool touch.

I have two of each of the GPUS. Sadly... all around my 8.8 MH/s gets me only 10 DRK/day in this new difficulty and I wasn't around in the early, early days. Profitability's crap, but I'm too lazy to mine and dump something else and I like the temperatures.

I added both GPUs and your CPU to the list. Thank you!

Can I expect similar hashrates to scrypt coins?

edit: I see that they are not the same.  Anyone got a calculation, based on the current difficulty, for how many coins 2Mhs will generate?

Just check the official pool, its calculations are pretty accurate: http://drkpool.com/index.php?page=statistics&action=pool
So if I were to move over, I'd be around 7900 khs, which according to that earns me a little over 4 DRK.  According to the pool calcs and my quick math, that translates into about $3 right now.  Is that correct or have I done something wrong?

That sounds about right. What cards are you using?

I checked it out. A lot of unpaid deposits. I don't think there's been any deposits at all today. And there 4 days left? I guess a lot of people won't get their deposit back. Sucks really. Sounded good but looks like it will just fail.

Hey guys I'm trying to help create a Darkcoin community so we aren't all just stuck in this one little thread Cheesy

Anyway I'm giving away 100 DRK come join me https://www.darkcointalk.org/threads/100-drk-giveaway.12/
nice job my man! I'm in. I will release code for a darkcoin donate widget based off of the feathercoin widget based off bitcoin widget. Whew...that's a lot of basing. anyway, once the darkcoin block explorer is up again, I will post it. What are some other features the community can work on to help integrate drk into other facets of digital or non-digital life? We should really be thinking about this as eduff is going to be speaking at the crypto convention in ny in less than a month which will, hopefully, be a boon in terms of awareness. Imagine eduff dropping darksend on those there! I'd hate to be the guy who has to follow him! Anyway, we should start to harness our brain powers on things the community needs and not on the manipulations that are or aren't happening with the price. I like the idea of marketing, but beyond the general like or seed of idea, we have to water that sucker and get some blooms to fasten to root. Maybe we set up a giveaway of 2000 dark to best video made by users pimping drk sent to a facebook page. Or take donations, ala doge, and send it off to a company operating in harsh sketchy conditions, doctors without borders or something. I'm just typing out loud here. I can donate 2-3k drk to something worthwhile. Or maybe take donations to send to dorian nakamoto. Highlight the need to remain anonymous. That's all I got for now.
p.s.
TanteStefana and I seem to be on the same wavelength as I tried to submit this only to be halted by their post. Traction is happening, let's do this. Eduff has made and is making a great crypto, light years ahead of anything out there. We need to stay vigilant. Get the word out. Make a framework for the community that will come. They will come. And when they do, let's be prepared, solid and ready for action

Sigi made this a while back and if I remember correctly our fearless leader liked it. Aside from it being the only video so far (I think). It has my vote.

I've made a short intro video for DarkCoin. Check it out
