My EthOS instances, hacked

⭐ Merited by suchmoon (4) ,not.you (2)
Was running 1.3.1, this morning they're all pointed at a different pool.

Looks like every one of my 4 machines has been rooted, teamviewer and a few other things automatically installed (and ran)

02:35 PM ethos@49a38f 192.168.0.118 [miner started] /home/ethos $ ps -ef | grep eam
root       731     1  0 14:31 ?        00:00:00 /opt/teamviewer/tv_bin/teamviewerd -f

Can update local.conf, and has been forced to this wallet proxywallet 0x00351843e3e2fbaa8e1e87dd962c90b999acee60

Which appears to be mining now on various pools (I was nanopool) - suspect I am not the only one exploited

But if you check etherscan, a lot of payments coming from other pools.

And yes, my SSH login was secure.

I suspect this was caused by an exploit in ShellInABox  (easy to google it). A very old version comes packaged with ethOs.

02:38 PM ethos@49a38f 192.168.0.118 [miner started] /home/ethos $ /usr/bin/shellinaboxd --version
ShellInABox version 2.10 (revision 239)

I've stopped the hack by, sudo mv /opt/miners/claymore /opt/miners/clayno, which leaves my machines useless.

[killing the miner doesnt work, as auto reboots, cant change wallet config, as mounted read only, lots of horrible kit things also there].

Does anybody know where the EthOS dev's are?

If you get bored, you can track the money to https://etherscan.io/address/0x003e36550908907c2a2da960fd19a419b9a774b7

10 x RX 580 Nitro+, and 1 x MSI Vega 64 [UK]

Looking for £350/card on the RX 580's Nitro+, and £700 for the Vega 64.

All are boxed, and in near perfect condition (Nitro's are 4Gb versions,  elipida,  and are all less than 4 months old, and have been mining for ~1.5months.  Vega I recently acquired, tested but did not setup / used to mine, as ethos does not support Vega's)

Selling as child is due, and have to reduce my mining footprint from 4 rigs to 2.

- Will add pictures tomorrow.
- Prices exclude postage.
- Prefer Eth or UK bank transfer.
- OK if buyer wants to use a trusted escrow / buyer pays fees.

Also 2 PSU's (think they're Corsair HX1000i's), and 2 motherboards follow.

Is my graphics card dying - advice please!
by

I have a box with 6x560's  (yes, they're slower than the 580's).

All are undervolted / running cool at 12.5MH/s.  They have been OK for ~2 months.

Over the last week, 1 card starts jumping up and down, and running at 11MH/s, and keeps slowing down over maybe 3-4 hours to ~10.5MHs, then crashes.

I've updated the BIOS back to stock (now it runs a lot hotter - ~80 degrees instead of ~60), thinking if I need to return it, it should have stock bios (still within warranty).

So,

- I think the card is dying, but it's not dead yet.  It has not yet crashed since being returned to stock - but looking at the trend / spikey-ness, I suspect it needs a half day to drop down enough to crash.
- Is this RMA'able? At what point can I RMA? I do not want to keep running a card this hot.  How would I even describe this fault?

How can I find my bottle neck
by
aar
on 12/12/2017, 14:29:05 UTC
Bought a new setup. G3900 cpu, 4gb ram and a 6x RX580s

Flashed bios and added some small clocks

I get 30mhs on 2 cards when alone in the machine.

Once I add another 2 cards,  all drop back to 27.

I am using claymore,  ethos and have a 1300W PSU

Anybody else had similar? How can I check if im bound by cpu or memory?

Owner http://pegapool.com your pool not working.
I wait until tomorrow and remove it from the list if the work is not restored

As per discord, I have took down the pool intentionally - please remove from OP.

Feel pool market is too saturated, and it is not breakeven for me to run a pool.

Thanks.

Many forks is negative, as it's splits support/market share and confuses newbies.

Ideally we should arrive at a consensus, and move forward with this, as opposed to trying to support multiple "consensuses"

By creating a clone of DigitalNote, bugs within the code became solvable and the Roadmap could be followed once again.

Thank you for this! So nice to you normal and real in your words!
We know these bugs in face, we know how to get it and how to solve it)
I like your way of tranparency very much!

Would you like to be paid for solving them or you want to do volunteer work?

will also be a fresh commit on github to check out source / build CLI?

Re: why are blocks so slow at the moment?
by

Difficulty adjustment with BTC is based on hashrate (block generation time) over last 2016 blocks (around 2 weeks). I'm sure we'll be back to normal when BCH adjusts its difficulty up in a day or two.

wow, 2016 blocks is quite a lag then for any updates?

21% increase in difficulty today, so many miners moved to shitcoin cash mining.

why such a jump in 1 day? did I miss something? How often does difficulty "update" / try to get back to 6 blocks/hour?

...

For me pool hooping here and there should be no issue event for network stability in long run other system that will have not that burden will win.
In POS/DAG/Obelisk people have no choice but support "mining" coin and keep network stable.
..

I still think that your critisism has parallels to pool hopping but at ccy level, to optimise fee collection.

Edit: and no blocks for over an hour now :/
