With the latest cgminer (3.4.1) Windows build, the SOCKS proxy option does not work and is probably broken.
I've setup a local proxy via PuTTY (localhost:9999), and have tried --socks-proxy 127.0.0.1:9999, --socks-proxy localhost:9999, and --socks-proxy socks5://127.0.0.1:9999, to no avail.
I verified that it did not work via Wireshark, which found packets being received and transmitted directly to the pool's IP.
Using (pooler's) cpuminer with the proxy option --proxy socks5://127.0.0.1:9999 works perfectly, with Wireshark not detecting any packets sent to the pool's IP.

I don't believe it either... sports betting and losing 5 BTC on the spot for a new customer? Tongue You guys must have a big bankroll!
There seems to be more reputable sport betting websites out there that don't offer this kind of incentive...

These posts are very interesting because the irony is that when we created this bonus, we thought the 5 BTC bonus would not be competitive enough to compete with some of the major brands.  Bovada for example offers up to $3,000 USD in initial bonuses making our 5 BTC look paltry.  This is excellent feedback, because most people in the gaming world know that these types of bonuses are very common.  I do thank you for your comments however.
Well, if you're website is serious, I wouldn't mind using that 1 BTC try-out bonus you were mentioning earlier. Smiley Just to see if what you're offering is the "real deal".

Re: China Central Television (CCTV) give a positive report on bitcoin
by

Something interesting to note here - it seems that the geeks of China are doing this for sure. How do I know?
Code:
Country Android Linux   Mac     Unknown Windows Total
1. China 0% 91% 0% 0% 9% 6,260
Linux is 91%, while Windows is only 9%. Though the marketshare of Linux is greater in China than Windows, this is still a pretty significant percentage!
And of course, no Macs. Not exactly the most appealing OS in China, anyway.

The US, on the other hand:
Code:
Country Android Linux   Mac     Unknown Windows Total
2. United States 0% 6% 19% 8% 67% 825

I guess the geeks in the US use Windows? Cheesy

Re: Why do people trust fiat money?
by
alberthrocks
on 13/08/2013, 21:47:06 UTC
Fiat is trustable, whereas Bitcoin is subject to the lovely scheme of pump-and-dump, courtesy of people out there carrying quite a few BTC.
Not to say that the lovely USD isn't subject to that, but Bitcoin tends to have that kind of mentality...

Hang on tight. Don't lose faith. This is time to buy up more coins while we go through this period of slow down.

but what if it goes down some more and wont go up for 10 - 15 years?

What if it goes up and never comes down?  There are risks both ways.

Granted, being as bullish as I am, I always think "this might be the last time we see 70" and so on.  But I do think there will be a day when the double digits, triple digits (and so on) are gone forever.
Actually, ideally, BTC will be around $1, like the Second Life currency L$. Then people will start using BTC as what it was meant to be - an anonymous currency!

(I should shoot myself for saying that, given that I haven't sold yet...)

SCAM: bitcoin-talk.org

Who would've known? A clone of this website actually exists! Grin If the phishing alarm hasn't gone off in your head, it's because multiple domains are registered often, especially in the BTC community. But read on and you'll learn to stay far away from it...

Introduction
I accidentally came upon this domain through a link on CoinChat (inside chat, NOT the website itself), and it seems to be a very well built clone of bitcointalk.org. Sadly I didn't investigate before logging in...

RED FLAG 1: WHOIS
According to WHOIS, this domain was registered 25-Jun-2013 02:47:37 UTC. The WHOIS information is blocked via WhoisGuard. The original domain's WHOIS, found here, has information exposed and a more reasonable registration date.

Code:

and that, under no circumstances will you use this data to: (a) allow,
enable, or otherwise support the transmission by e-mail, telephone, or
facsimile of mass unsolicited, commercial advertising or solicitations
to entities other than the data recipient's own existing customers; or
(b) enable high volume, automated, electronic processes that send
queries or data to the systems of Registry Operator, a Registrar, or

modify existing registrations. All rights reserved. Public Interest Registry reserves

Seems to be related to this VPS company. The phisher is probably a customer of said company. In a very unlikely scenario, the company is running the scheme, but that's unlikely...

GeoIP for legitimate website:
Code:
109.201.133.65 NL Rozendaal, Provincie Gelderland, Netherlands, Europe 52.0074, 5.9654 NForce Entertainment B.V. NForce Entertainment B.V.

Conclusion
Nevertheless, I logged in mindlessly BEFORE conducting this investigation! Tongue It seems to redirect you to the home page without an actual login, very likely storing your account details in the process.

I have since changed my password, and if you've accessed and tried to login with this website, you should too!

I must admit though, whoever designed this little phish did a pretty good job...

After a while of working (6-7 hours spread out over 1.5 weeks), I now have an entry! Cheesy

http://alberthrocks.site88.net/

Quite simply, a website animation that makes you wonder what M-Day is... and drops some pretty obvious hints while doing so!
Watch it to find out! Wink

Recommended: Latest Chrome or Firefox
(If you're curious, it DOES work in Internet Explorer 10 (and has some internal support too!), but 2 of the animation shots will not work because as always, Microsoft is rather screwy with their standards... Not sure about other IEs, though IE9 should work too.)

Fun-tip: Try using a mobile browser! There's some little things for those browsers, too! Wink

Warning: this is a resource heavy website, so make sure you clear up a few things before visiting the website!

If I do win the community vote, I'll make the website permanent, add localization support, and use part of the funds to make the faucet active.
