I have signed up to the coinbase vault service but have yet to use it or read the fine print regarding the insurance. I dont know about xapo but coinbase says they store all customers vaulted coins on paper wallets and usb cold storage in bank vaults around the world. So virus on customers computer should not be an agument with insurance. Employee security is still a concern but should not stop the payouts. To deny insurance they must prove negligence on the customers part. I would be all for a annual or quartly independent audit of all coin that should be accounted for in their vaults at anytime.
if user negligence means you lose insurance, you are better off printing a cold wallet yourself!
I think the whole point of having the 'vault' setup it is takes the process of printing the cold wallet out of the users hands, thus taking away the probability of negligence on the users side and placing it with Coinbase. IMO good for not so tech savy people that are worried about their coins but still believe in companies to control the security of the funds. Not what bitcoin is really about but a very good way to move it mainstream.
I would say that for not tech savvy people, the companies should handle that kind of security by default, and not offering it as a premium service, if you are using the vault and they give the user the key, then the user needs to understand what the key is doing, so a bit tech savvy. The best would be for the basic user not to need to know anything at all about the tech.

Re: [2014-12-01] BBC: HSBC severs links with firm behind Bitcoin fund
when i first set up my kraken account, i initially tried to use my HSBC account. HSBC refused all money that i sent from kraken. I now use my other bank.
even better, close your HSBC account! when I had one, any local transfer to or from another bank was charged! between any other bank, to or from, its free, where I live, they are hugely profiting from their dominant position...

Re: Stolen Bitcoins with blockchain and continue to steal
Good points i would add a little addition to it 5- use a different and special browser for important sites like blockchain with an active connection to Trusted VPN services which is reduce the risk of hacking.
Ok for the specific browser as long as you keep it updated regularly as well, but how does a VPN protects you from hacking ?

Continue to steal, so why are you still using it? It defies any conventional logic.
I was also a bit puzzled by this but I guess the OP's thoughts have been a bit lost in google translation...

HSBC has been closing bitcoin related accounts for years. Hopefully that mistake will cost them in the future, even if don't doubt that the day BTC becomes totally mainstream and they adopt it everyone will salute them...

Re: Stolen Bitcoins with blockchain and continue to steal
well its nice to be ignored. im going to give ever body some tips to stay safe
1. when going to a website check its a website you know and the web address is correct. 2. keep passwords safe, the likes of blockchain.info will NEVER ask for your password 3. for the love of god use a decent anti virus/malware it only takes 1 to get through to screw you up 4. use common sense. if get an email never click the link go into your browser and type the address yourself
there pretty simple rules but 99% of hackers are very lazy (you know you are) there not interested in alot of work they want to target as many people as possible and use as little effort as possible this makes there return easier as people are naturally stupid/lazy and thats what hacker looks for
Emphasis mine, very good point, and that is valid for any website you visit... Actually all points are good. A lot of people are not careful enough and would type their "password" (yes, as in "password" being the password) just about anywhere.

I was lucky that it was my satoshi wallet, for most first time transactions concerning facets. For my main wallet I don't use a webwallet.
blockchain's webwallet is quite safe as you keep the password on browser side, then if you are infected, there is probably not much difference between a webwallet and a computer wallet...

With the very bad reviews they get on their debit card offering, I would not go there for the Vault...
