You shouldn't be using your computer when mining... But you could get another graphics card and mine using only one of them while you're using your computer.

Did you wait for the client to finish downloading all the blocks? I'm not entirely sure you need to do this but most guides say you do.

I thought the whole point was to be de-centralized and not regulated...
