Hey! I have the full set of these Monero coins. I was told by a member that the set only has a 10% premium on the 25, 50, 100 XMR coins while the smaller ones have a 100% + premium. I just wanted a few more confirmations. I tried reaching out to a few coin stores, but they never give me a call back or respond. If it is only 10% it doesn't really make sense to sell these as a coin set and just claim them when ready.

Thanks for any help.

Did you or did you not speak to Caribbean Treasures regarding your Monero coins?

I really do not want to acuse you of anything. Especially if you’re innocent and have nothing to do with any of this. My only intention is to clear the air on this. You may be an innocent bystander and chances are that you are but at the same time there is a chance that's not the case.

I as well as others want you to be an active member of this community so long as you're not the problem we are all concerned about.

Makes sense.

No I don't know what Caribbean Treasures is.

Well it doesn't look good for OP being the guy. You would think he would be on here defending himself, but instead crickets. Stay safe out there people.

To be honest, I didn't feel the need to defend myself in my own post because some random guy demanded it and accused me because I was a newbie. It just seems ridiculous that the scammer would post his own scam and make people aware of it.

Still though, I get it. I'd love to see the guy get caught. I'm just not sure how it would work. You could call the police, but without someone actually being successfully scammed I'm not sure they would do anything.

The character known as Skyler has been reported by multiple members of our Facebook group for reaching out across various platforms and groups, attempting to "buy" or "sell" coins, including a set of Monero coins.

- Personally, I would not trust the newbie who made this post. All of this is not coincidence. Newbie with high-dollar coins is suspect.

You are totally right to be weary. Unfortunately he probably will post my coins and try to sell them since I sent him a video of them. Also, I have no way to prove anything to you over a forum so there really isn't much for me to say to defend myself. I bought these coins from a friend who I trust completely. I am not active in the crypto community but I am a big investor of crypto.

I think the best way for me to prove these are real is to get them professionally graded. I would appreciate any recommendations on how I can get them verified.

Thanks

Same guy for me! Skylar!! that's not what he actually looks like. I did a FaceTime with him. He even introduced me to his girlfriend too over FaceTime.

did you do a screen cap of the face time?

No unfortunately. I didn't even think to do it.

You being a newbie I'm wary of you - I'm not going to claim anything upon you but how do we know you're not Skyler? Why and how did Skyler contact you? I'm sorry to ask in a manner that seems to suggest anything - I just don't understand why he targeted you?

Did you get pictures of the other person? - I saw another person at the airport that was suspect to me…

That makes no sense. Why would I create a post outing and warning people of the scam? lol. I made this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5544641.msg65423850#msg65423850

I got a DM from - btchodl101 asking if they were still available and he gave me his number to call.

I recently had a person attempt to scam me (In-Person). - Location wise It seems to me Florida/Miami is becoming hub for scammers.

Scumbag used this ID:

I'll share my story if people are interested. I already partly shared it on Physical Bitcoins and Bullion Facebook Group. - Unfortunately some members here who act like such upstanding people claim I was an idiot but it seems these scams are on the rise and what I did actually prevented the theft.

Had chat GPT help me make this to help summarize it because it was incredibly long

Posting this to warn others in the community about a sophisticated scam attempt involving physical Monero coins, an in-person meeting, and a fake escrow agent.

🔹 The Setup

I was contacted by someone on these forums interested in purchasing my physical Monero coins. They seemed normal at first. We talked on the phone for a long while getting to know each other and suggested we meet in person for inspection, followed by a payment in Bitcoin on the spot.

🔹 The In-Person Red Flags

We met in a public restaurant. He said he was buying a boat next door and would meet me at the restaurant During the meeting:

   •   The buyer kept insisting on viewing all three coins at once right in front of him.
   •   He wanted an extended amount of time holding and inspecting them, much longer than necessary and taking photos.
   •   His behavior was strange and uncomfortable — he was overly focused on the coins and how we weren't letting him hold them long enough. He kept saying the wifi wasn't good and it would be hard to send the coins and that he needed to go to the car to get his ledger.

We eventually pulled the coins back and he said the deal is off unless he can inspect them more. Since we didn't have a COA, we offered instead to get them professionally graded, but he said he was in a hurry to get them and gave random excuses. We went our separate ways.

🔹 The Bizarre Excuse

Afterward, the buyer called me and claimed that the person I met wasn’t him, but his “younger brother.” He blamed the brother’s lack of knowledge for the failed meetup and said that’s why more inspection was needed.

I later FaceTimed him, and sure enough — it was not the same person I met. This added another layer of deception and confusion. This guy was a SMOOTH talker and we talked for another hour while he tried to make me feel comfortable. Eventually we agreed to use an escrow.

🔹 Fake Escrow Scam Confirmed

The buyer provided the name of a well-known, trusted escrow agent on the forum for the transaction. After everything was set and agreed upon, I reached out to that agent directly through the forum — and they confirmed they had never spoken to me. The person I had been talking to was an impersonator.

Had I sent the coins, they would have been gone.

🚨 What to Watch For
   •   Buyer asks to inspect coins in person, especially for a long time
   •   Excuses involving other people (e.g., “my brother met you”)
   •   Suggesting escrow but refusing to verify agent identity through forum contact
   •   General weird behavior or overly smooth talk

✅ Final Advice

Always verify escrow agents directly via the forum.
Never send anything unless you’re 100% sure who you’re dealing with.
If something feels off, trust your gut — that’s what saved me from getting scammed.

At this point I am overly paranoid and made sure to take all my valuables and put them in a bank deposit box just in case these guys are more serious and may try to find and rob me. You can never be too carful!

Was this legit or a scam?

Hey everyone. I have had a weird situation happen and I am curious on everyone's opinion if this could have been a scam or if I was just too paranoid. It's a slightly long story but it involves a set of Monero coin I was selling which is valued at 110k USD at the moment.

I posted here on the forums for sale of my 2016 Lealana Monero coin set and was DM'd by a newer account that they were interested and wanted to get on a phone call. After taking to them for a while they seemed very cool and normal and decided to try and meet up to do the deal. My friend who originally sold me the set lives in Miami and it turns out this person lived in Miami as well. My friend has several sets and offered to sell one of his to this guy next day so I didn't have to rush to ship the coins out. Everything was arranged in a 3 way telegram chat and the next day they met. This is when things started to get WEIRD!

While they were meeting this guy texts me saying this - "He will not let me physically touch or look at them only see form picture I took. Before I send any money I need to physically see them touch them make sure everything is good"

Now this seems perfectly normal to me and I asked my friend why he wasn't letting the guy touch the coins. My friend told me he was literally giving him the coins to hold. I even got on FaceTime with them and was talking to both. I heard this guy inspecting the coins asking if the stickers looked even to them and my friend was saying without a doubt he had all the coins in his hand. At the same time they were discussing he texts me this.

"Brother, there’s no certificates. It’s very simple. I need to see them side-by-side so I can inspect them to make sure everything’s fine so I feel comfortable sending you all this money if he doesn’t pull them out right now and hand them over to me so I can look at them right in front of him side-by-side the deals off."

This was REALLY WEIRD. I know without a DOUBT he was holding the coins. eventually my friend was weirded out and they both left.

I started to doubt this guy was legit even though when we spoke on the phone after it seemed like it was maybe a misunderstanding. He says he is down to fly down to my city and do the deal with me in person and is even willing to meet me at my bank for the deal to go through. I just can't figure out what a scam could be or if anything could go wrong.

Eventually I asked to use escrow and his response was "No chance I’m using a random escrow agent on the forum lol. If you have an escrow  here in Miami I’ll go ahead and meet the escrow up. Just not sending money to someone and then they ship it to me"

so am I being too paranoid or is there some scam in there that I am missing. He seemed really cool on the phone, but my friend said he was all over the place talking fast and acting weird.

I have about full set of 2016 Lealana Monero coin available that I got in a trade with one of the original investors of Monero. The set contains 3 coins at 25, 50, and 100 Monero. I am willing to do escrow or sell these one at a time based on how the buyer wants to do it!

Willing to take dollar payments or BTC

I thought China banned bitcoin. There's no way to know what the CCP actually does. I wouldn't bank on that
