Re: Cryptocurrency Crash

I do think that in the long run, at the point that people will get more familiar with cryptocurrency, people will see that bitcoin really isn't the best out there and that bitcoin got to this point simply because it is the first and people only know about bitcoin if they have heard of cryptocurrency at all.
So that being said I geus that in the long run (2-5 years) I don't see bitcoin at the top, I see Ethereum and [insert fast coin made for use as a valuta] in the top, cous thats kinda the 2 reasons blockchain exists, the way Ethereum uses it and the way its being used as a valuta kinda thing.

Not a daytrader, but if you're trying to time a dip or massive bull run, "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" and/or "it's never as good or as bad as it seems". The top and bottom of fast bear/bull runs is usually close to getting that feeling of, "okay, this price is just STUPID now."

I don’t know. Applying the same metrics used above to $ETH it does pretty well, but not as well as Bitcoin. But there are clear risks and as a result I am underweight in Ethereum compared to its share of the global Cryptoasset Market Cap.

Yes I have invested a lot into crypto over the years.
Right now, because of the recent crypto price surge, I'd say 90-95%% of my net worth is in crypto.
I am hardcore crypto. I am also going to be diversifying very soon because I know it's not good to have all my eggs in one basket like this.

Yeah that’s why I used eth or btc as the metric for my success. I initially started out with a certain amount of eth and proceeded to lose 3/4 of the eth even though the dollar value was higher than where I started. I viewed this as a massive failure even though I was up in dollar terms. I eventually made up the trading losses by not trading, but holding coins long term.

Re: Day trade?

A day trader is two things, a hunter of volatility and a manager of risk. The act of day trading is simply buying shares of a stock with the intention of selling those shares for a profit within minutes or hours. In order to profit in such a short window of time day traders will typically look for volatile stocks. This often means trading shares of companies that have just released news, reported earnings, or have another fundamental catalyst that is resulting in above average retail interest. The type of stocks a day trader will focus on are typically much different from what a long term investor would look for. Day traders acknowledge the high levels of risk associated with trading volatile markets and they mitigate those risks by holding positions for very short periods of time.

Same here. Bought some BTC with fiat recently as I wasn’t comfortable with a 95% ETH portfolio, at least not for medium to long term holdings. Even though the ratio is good and I’m tempted to trade some BTC for ETH (and trade back later), I’m taken aback by the taxation.
In any case it’s nice to find likeminded people

Bitcoin keys should be backed up on an offline computer or written down on a piece of paper. You should always store physical copies of bitcoin keys in a locked safe or other secure location.
Access to bitcoin wallets should be carefully restricted. A white paper from Secure Works states businesses with multiple employees should limit privileges with access controls. “Bitcoin supports the concept of “m of n” transactions, where multiple persons can sign a transaction but not all parties are needed to move the funds.

Where China has opted to position itself against virtual currencies, countries in Southeast Asia are taking varying approaches. With nothing backing the currency, regulators in Malaysia and Indonesia have said they are unwilling to withstand the possibility of the destabilisation of bitcoin and have made them illegal.

I buy it, I put the BTC in my wallet, and it's mine. Nobody can confiscate it from me. Nobody can tell me how old I need to be before I can spend it.

Re: How safe is Bitcoin? ✅

Actually, I think the comparison is difficult, because we have rather different methods of security. I could argue that bitcoin is safe as long as the human does not make an error. Then you could argue that under this condition the current banking system is even better because it makes up for human errors (at a price). But it also allows for direct stealing of funds from the people (see cyprus), which is something you cannot do with bitcoin.
After all it's just marketing.

We have hardware wallets not because bitcoin is unsafe, but because the computers we need to access the internet are unsafe.

Re: What is best wallet for long term bitcoin holding?

Thanks. Just messed around with Electrum and sent a small amount from coinbase just to get a handle on how transfering bitcoins and the blockchain works. Hardware wallets really do seem to be the best was store btc safety.
What would be the reason to get two wallets? Can you mirror a single wallet on two hardware wallets, or would the idea be to store some of your btc in one wallet and some in another to "not put all your eggs in one basket" so to speak?
Also any particular reason for Ledger vs Trezor or KeepKey? An open source hardware wallet seems like it would be safer unless you really trust Ledger.
