Re: Belgian Bank sends out FUD newsletters concerning Bitcoin

They are not telling lies. Every item in the list is correct.

There is more at play than just the points in the list, considering their own position a few years back, it's strange they can truthfully warn about bitcoin's risks now "tout court"
Is it not FUD when they mean to cause FUD, regardless of the words used?

True, but since this was sent out I have received numerous messages / calls from friends and family (who know I'm into BTC) that are telling me:
"OMG OMG SEE! EVEN THE BANKS ARE WARNING YOU! I TOLD YOU SO!"

lol treat them to some pizza or maybe top up their mobile vikings account with bitcoin

remember the basta episode about  belgian banks?

thanks for the replies

I get how Retep's suggestion for a number of consecutive transactions could help or sending it to a blackhole,
but I'm not that familiar with svp proof

Mr Hearn's secure-ID scheme similarly relies on a block chain and on rewarding miners who keep it up to date. An identity would be established by performing a transaction in which no Bitcoins are transfered from the owner to another named party. Instead, the owner would donate a sum—say, $200 worth of Bitcoins—that the first miner to approve a block with this transaction in it would get as his mining fee. (Since the winning miner is always revealed at random, the owner cannot simply redirect the virtual cash back into his account.)

So is this ID only usable with parties who have seen the "sacrifice transaction" publicly announced on the network?, otherwise couldn't the id seeking person just make a deal with some miner or pool to not announce this transaction, mine it and get his $200 back minus a fee for the miner.

Bob can also destroy Alice's risk fund, so after that transaction is recorded in the blockchain, Alice's risk fund should be released automatically

BTC users can always initialize the transaction and get the risk fund back, since the transaction is in the blockchain. Seems the first sent medium will always be BTC

doesn't this require the exchange (nashx) to know bob's btc address, I thought the whole point was that this would be anonymous

same with risking usd, it's only possible with litecoin or bitcoin or nashx would need to know your bank account or somehow receive cash deposits and refund

my head tells me using mutual assured destruction makes sense in this case
but It's not making me feel better about being the first to send money

somehow this still leaves too much a chance the other party will act irrational and choose mutual destruction (assuming the third party can be trusted)
Isn't consciously being in a MAD situation an unpleasant experience? or am I thinking too much about nukes
how do you feel?

Guide: exchange LTC/TRC using ripple
by
ancore
on 30/03/2013, 20:44:14 UTC
For people interested in trading LTC/TRC there is no exchange currently offering this possibility
So trading LTC and TRC IOU's on ripple is the next best thing, I would say

for people interested, but who are not sure how to do this, in ripple:

Trust if you want them to be able to issue IOU's to you
under advanced, trust,  Click  the + and then
for LTC grant a trust to rDihBcUrrfDwUBZWBcuP2z5n47KVLQFNQH this is Chriswen's gateway account, also see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155124.0
for TRC grant a trust to rZQGU7Y5ZdLhNWTCV6BKJFcpLijyYVYWX  bitcoinreactor's gateway account http://exchange.bitcoinreactor.com:8032/

Trade order
under advanced, trade, clear the field where you see BTC/XRP or whatever other currencies you see and type TRC/LTC then next to this field you can change the issuer rDihBcUrrfDwUBZWBcuP2z5n47KVLQFNQH for LTC and rZQGU7Y5ZdLhNWTCV6BKJFcpLijyYVYWX for TRC
now you can sell or buy TRC/LTC or see the order book(trusting is not necessary for this). currently only my order 1 LTC for 10 TRC there Wink, I hope to see others soon

Funding
To get IOU's in the first place in your ripple account follow the instructions at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155124.0 for LTC
http://exchange.bitcoinreactor.com:8032/ for TRC both issue and redeem their respective IOU's without any added cost during launch phase
alternately you could trade TRC or LTC for XRP or BTC some orders already exist check out the possibilities you can add bitstamp as a gateway for BTC, USD, ...

note: if you just want to trade trusting is not necessary only changing the issuer, trust will be added automatically when you accept an offer

I will do my best to answer your questions

do you mean like a company issuing shares as IOU's (that really are I owe you nothing, since not legally binding nor any limit on the number) on the ripple platform?
