i was planning on buying 10 at once though and 150€ real euros is a 150€ more than a theoretical 17.4€ for each.
and besides, im open to negotiations

kthx, must've mistaken 0.0005 for 0.005 ^^;

btw i googled satoshi after you mentioned it (never heard of it before), but im not quite sure how to use it as a bitcoin term. is it something technical about the network or the processing of information or is it synonymous for 0.00000001 btc (which was the smallest amount possible if im not mistaken), ie could i say "my current balance is 500 000 satoshi"?

oh and while im on the topic, why 21 million?
why is that (going to be) the maximum amount of bitcoins?
is there a specific reason for that exact number or is it just because the creator made it that way? (a round number like 10 million or a hex-divisible like 16 777 216 seems more reasonable (from the viewpoint of a noob of course))

also, is it theoretically(!) possible that all remaining bitcoins could be mined by end of this year or is there some algorithm or something to prevent that from happening (mining is basically luck-based, correct?)?
also, is there a guarantee that all bitcoins will be available by 2040 (or whatever year they predicted) or is possible that there might still be a few "unmined" btc 200 years from now?

Re: multiple wallets

srsly? fucking A =D

btw, from everything ive read so far, it seems to me that bitcoins arent really stored on any file, but associated with a certain wallet which cannot be accessed without the wallet.dat file. the reason i think that are the instructions on how to make a 100% secure wallet. the way i understand it, the wallet.dat file you're supposed to put your money doesn't seem to be online at any point except for when you retrieve money from it. is this accurate or am i misunderstanding something?

also, wouldnt it be way safer to have a shit-ton of wallets with only small amounts in each (each with their own password of course) rather than having one wallet with everything in it? yes, it'd be tedious but safer, wouldnt it? (assuming you're able to memorize a high quantity of very complicated passwords that is)

if i want to have multiple wallets, is it enough if i remove the bitcoin folder in appdata/roaming (and keep it in zip file) every time or do i need a new bitcoin program folder for each wallet as well?

oh and, does bitcoin store data anywhere else? (besides temporary folders)

thx! that helped =D

and no, im not paranoid (with this wallet)
for now its only gonna be a few bucks until i get more familiar with it.
if my account gets corrupted, big whoop - on this one, there wont ever be more than 10฿.
if i should decide to invest some serious money, ill set up a new wallet and THEN ill be getting paranoid.

like mozzie said; paranoia is skill, the secret the longevity ;)

thats it then, didnt know that requires processing power (i thought it was just downloading those blocks)

is it going to do that every time after i turn off my computer, at fixed intervals (like all 24 hours), for every session or only once per wallet?

Bitcoin CPU Usage

hi,
im new to bitcoin and a computer noob.
ive downloaded the client (zip version) from bitcoin.org, repacked it in an encrypted 7zip file (googled how to do it) and started it. at first i was confused about the whole "connections" & "blocks" thing, but after some research i think i got it now.
what i dont get is why it maxes out my cpu all the time. according to google bitcoin mining is responsible for the high cpu usage, but it also claims that the new version doesnt do that anymore, so why is my cpu maxed out all the time? the only kind of solutions i was able to find were nothing but techno babble to me; stuff like "enter '-blahblah something' command" but where and how?
i need a noob-friendly answer on how to make bitcoin run quietly in the background so my electricity bill wont ruin me.

to be clear, i have ZERO intent of bitcoin mining, i just want a wallet on flashdrives (the more the merrier (back-ups)) so i can invest some money into it without a maxed out cpu every time i run it

help plz (and remember, noob-friendly)
