Seriously, what is so hard about paying taxes. Just do it!

If you want to pay less taxes, you need to elect politicians who care more about the people and the future of the country that their reelection. And also, cut in services.

Are you in Windows or Linux?  If you are in Linux, you can help identify the problem by running it from the command line and observing the error output.

I'm running Windows 7 home premium

I recognize it's not the best option, but if you can always create new addresses and send coins to it.  It's is a universal way to migrate funds between Bitcoin clients Smiley

I can work with that. I will create a new wallet with Armory and play around with this app.

Great job btw!

I downloaded version 0.75.1 and 0.76 and I can't migrate my Bitcoin wallet. It was never touch by the Bitcoin client version 0.6.
With both version 0.75.1 and 0.76, when I click on the migrate button nothing happen...

Do I have to close the Bitcoin client before trying to migrate the wallet?

Thanks

[...] My business will do it by the book from the start, that will save me from the troubles to come when authorities start to get more interested in Bitcoin businesses.
This is the best way to help legitimate Bitcoin and put some light on the good things we can and should do with Bitcoin instead of having SilkRoad thow in our face every time Bitcoin is mention in the media.

I'd try to play it like stored value..  you don't pay tax on gift cards right?

I don't think gift card can loses or gains value if you let them sit. I'm pretty sure a 100$ gift card will always be worth 100$ no more no less. We can't say that about Bitcoin.

How does work Facebook credit and SecondLife Linden (they have a exchange - LindeX) ? Isn't Bitcoin kinda like those virtual currency?

Here is another question: If you go to the iTunes store and buy a 99 cent music download, do you pay 1.13 for it?

Personnal experience, no. But that doesn't mean I should not have paid taxes.

In accordance with local law, your Apple Online Store purchases will be taxed using the applicable tax rate(s) for your shipping address. If the tax rate changes before your purchase is shipped, the rate in effect at the time your order ships will apply.

Based on your shipping address, you may see a combination of these types of taxes on your order:

PST/QST - Provincial Sales Tax and Quebec Sales Tax
GST - Goods and Services Tax
HST - Harmonized Sales Tax (GST + PST)

Also

Once you redeem your iTunes Gift Card, the full amount appears next to your account ID name in the upper-right part of the window as a credit. Any time you buy an item, the purchase price (+ tax) will be deducted from the balance.

I'm from Canada, Apple knows I'm from Canada since every time I buy or rent something (music, movies, etc.) they send me a bill by email and my physical address is shown. Also, they are registred in Canada (Apple Canada) so they have taxes numbers. I don't know why they don't charge me taxes but they should have. Since I have not paid taxes I should make a declaration of self-assessment.

Anyway, the OP should contact the revenu agency to make sure it won't come back in it's face if he doesn't charge tax on fee or if he doesn't declare capital gains or loses.

Wow, I miss read the OP.

I still think that if YOU buy bitcoin, be it a exchange or between two individuals, and YOU paid a fee to on top of what the bitcoin valuation, since you are a Quebec resident, you should fill out a form to declare the tax you did not pay.

For the part where you ARE the exchange, you don't have to charge tax. Just think of Canadian Tire money (CDNT) : You can exchange it for money with someone else and not be paying tax as long as the 5 CDNT is exchange for exactly 5 CAD. Now, here the tricky part : BTC/CAD change often. So you have to declare gains or loses as you would do for any financial product. Also, if you charge fee for providing the service of exchanging bitcoin you have to charge tax on those services.

You should consider writing (not calling) to Revenu Quebec to avoid suprises. Also, do as Meni and get a accountant who may know a little more about tax law that we do  Grin

Cheers

You can argue that bitcoin is a currency and as such you should not pay tax. I'm not sure, but I think you have to pay tax on the fee they charge you. Since they are not registred in Qc, you have to fill a form to declare the amount of tax you should have paid. Also, any capital gain (and loses) should be declare.

Cheers

My reply was meant to be humoristic. As you know now, my first language is not english so I may sound off sometimes...

Arfeniel, I believe you didn't take the time to read everything I wrote that was in reference to you.

For my defense, you do write quite long posts  Wink

My comment was an aside comment of which I penned directly after typing 11-20-2011 after noticing that it reads backward and forward, the same.

How did I miss that  Smiley

Accept my apology if I'm wrong, arfeniel.

I don't think one was due but be sure it is accepted. I did expect someone to be alerted by my post. I did post it 5 min after the thread was started...

I still didn't get the command of the English language. Care to elaborate? I swear I won't take it personnaly  Grin

Cheers!

So I received this email while I was at work today :

You have just been sent a personal message by simplecoins on Bitcoin Forum.

IMPORTANT: Remember, this is just a notification. Please do not reply to this email.

The message they sent you was:

Hey man, would you mind speaking up on this thread:

We are being accused of being the same person..

Thanks,

When I got back, I immediatly jump on my computer to read the whole saga. Well not right away, I did take a walk my dog first. Anyway, it's amazing that, exactly 4 weeks and 3 days (something is going on here) after being a member of this forum and only 2 days (wait a minute, I smell something odd) after joining the big league, I'm involve in some kind of conspiracy or scam or fud (whatever makes you happy). I don't know if we can call it luck :

Not only do I want him to pick my lottery numbers (that's another effin' lie, for I don't play the lottery) [...]

but if I was Phinnaeus Gage, I would not want me to pick lottery numbers for sure.

About the 11-20-2011, what should I be looking for on Google? Is it the Dilbert commic strip (http://dilbert.com/strips/comic/2011-11-20/)?

Ok, so back on track. I'm not simplecoin nor am I related to him. I commented of a nice website and what looks like a easy to use service. Was I wrong? Also, I did not, and will not anytime soon, buy Bitcoin through is website. Heck, I have a btc-e account and never transfer any currency in it. Same thing with my Paxum account. I'm interested in Bitcoin. I want to see it grow and conquer the heart of those who are sick of the current banking system and his fees. I run the client 24/7 to support the network even though I don't have any Bitcoin (well, only 0.05611137 BTC coming from my hard working 1.03 khash/sec miner).

Btw, what do you mean by :
[...] but I want him to pen my biography for, he too, has a command of the English language.

Not quite sure to understand. After all, I am french canadian, eh!

Until the next thrilling saga,
Arfeniel

easly use Bitcoin for every day purchase or payment.

I mean, it would be nice to have a "Bump"-like application on smart phone and transfert money to a friend or pay for some goods or services.
Or no need to waite 3-4 days to wire money to a international account (legally) - well you wouldn't need a bank account anymore so...

Yeah, good dreams

I know paxum now accept credit card to fund account but they charge a 4.95% + $0.50 fee.
You may want to try http://www.tradebitcoin.com/. It will, as they put it, help you "find local Bitcoin traders in your area".

Hope this help.

Re: How could it possibly fail or end?
by
arfeniel
on 05/12/2011, 02:04:17 UTC
How can it fail? Well, it could go the same road Amiga did. The thing is not dead, they release a version in august 2011 if I'm not mistaking. It's alive... well sort of. Or like Betamax. It was seen as a better technologie (quality) than VHS, but the ease of use of the VHS and it's fast adoption of home user killed the Betamax. Sure, Betamax survived, as Betacam, in the  professional and broadcast video industry.

Don't get me wrong, Bitcoin is great. But it need too seduce the home user. For that, you need simplicity. I know I have to keep my bank pin number secret. But I don't need to worry about how I should make my bank account secure with encryption, backup and fire/watter/electromagnetic proof vault. If Bitcoin "fail", it's because it fail at simplicity.
