Best investment coins?
by
auswalk
on 07/11/2017, 01:28:50 UTC
Yes Bitcoin is the most gambled, and Ethereum is next.

I have a crapload of monero which I like as a coin, but it's a small % of the gambled coins. Would it be prudent to trade some monero for say litecoin or something?

Investing in a reputable big casino makes sense if:

1. You have at least 1 BTC. Less than that, transaction costs and the fact you may need it means it's not investable. Investment is long term, not short term.
2. Invest what if you did lose you might feel alot of pain but you'd still be solvent. One note: I think the risk of a big dice site running with your coins is extremely minuscule. Seriously, they are risking death doing that.
3. I don't see many big whales anymore. They appear to have gone extinct. So the variance is lower, meaning lower variance.
4. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BE TEMPTED TO DIVEST ON THE SITE SO YOU CAN GAMBLE IT. This is a common pitfall. Some sites allow you to make an account permanently unwagerable. But most for reasons beneficial to them, don't restrict this. If you cannot fight off the occasional urge to use that investment bankroll to gamble, then don't invest. All that will do is give you easier access to flipping coins and losing your principle.
.
This may be the golden age of investing. If BTC is say, $50000 in 5 years, you're doing well right now. Most sites you are gonna get 50-100% annual returns. A Bank CD pays 1% on a shit fiat currency that loses 2-3% a year.

You definitely don't need at least 1 BTC. You can make a profit with any amount, and lots of people don't have an entire Bitcoin.

The risk of a dice site pulling an exit scam and running with everyone's coins is higher than you make it seem to be.

I see whales all the time, you must be on the wrong sites.

#4 is the only one I can agree with you on, I also see it a lot.

Ok yes you can have .000001BTC. Whatever is alot of money to you that's your threshold. It's a waste of time for anyone even a homeless person at some point

When was the last time a site that invested significant time marketing and building a quality product jumped ship with investors money? I'd like to know if you can answer that.

I haven't seen whales in a long time. They only seemed to appear on bitdice.me which I don't frequent anymore. A whale is someone firing down 5 BTC+ a roll or more.

You  never know when you get the gambling itch. Don't do it or you are better off just keeping your coins in a paper wallet.

First off, you're either nuts or just full of crap that you are gonna buy $8000 for a mining rig. Presumably you are a newbie.. Sure you can get a motherboard, pci risers, and probably pick out some decent cards (although you'd likely mess that up, so I'd buy 2 at time and learn about rom modification and all the different tweeks involved in getting a rig not only running efficiently but stable. Cooling is critical, so your environment is important. Are you gonna run winbl0ze which has better drivers or ethos which is far more stable but requires some technical skill to run...

I would take that $8000 and just invest it in your coins of choice. It's alot less work and at the end of the day, has a better chance at success than building a rig. Rig maintenance is alot of work. The golden days I think are pretty much behind us too, so how long do you plan to be in this game where you are basically breaking even or making less than min wage? It's a distinct possibility.

I have a 6 GPU rig that I run but that's b/c I have deep knowledge and it's already setup. I would NOT start from scratch today. HELL NO. In fact after this season- I'm likely out of the game. It's been fun and profitable but it's just not worth the time investment anymore.

It's still better than playmoney. Playmoney doesn't do anything for a gambler. You at least get some "psueudo" exhilaration  from playing with DOGE. Like penny slots.

So many big name sites like primedice and crypto-games.net don't allow deposits from IPs from some of the biggest countries in the world. To get around that is not hard but does require a VPN and I would gather most gamblers don't have vpns so they are forced to move elsewhere..and technically you are breaking the rules and could be subject to fund confiscation by using a VPN to hide your location too.

Something to think about.

Need advice: How to code site for deposit and withdraws using bitcoin + altcoins
by
auswalk
on 22/05/2017, 07:40:54 UTC
I don't want to use a third party service b/c it may go down.

I want to build a site that accepts bitcoin as payment as well as bitcoin related altcoins like litecoin and dogecoin.

What I have concluded so far:
I need to run a bitcoin node + each altcoin node that I want to accept payment from. That is alot of work but acceptable.

However writing in nodejs a completely separate deposit, wallet management, and withdraw code for each coin seems overkill. I know bitcoinjs-lib supports litecoin and dogecoin but the documentation is sparse and it seems unreasonably complex. However I keep going back to that as the only solution.

Any advice? I am a professional coder I am just trying to find the best solution.

Thanks

I've been researching this a bit. I know bitcoinjs-lib has a standalone way of generating transactions and pushing them to arbitrary nodes. However, are sites polling third party api blockchains like blockr.io or are they all running nodes for each and every cryptocurrency they support (which isn't cheap really on a hosted machine) and polling them?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform
by
auswalk
on 20/04/2017, 21:58:48 UTC
I use the stock ethos eth miner software.

Switch to claymore, you will get better hashrate and more accurate pool reporting...

The way to do this is to edit config file and switch miner from default to claymore, and also edit claymore config file to point it to your pool and wallet...

If you need additional info I can help you...

Or better yet, if you just want to mine ETH, use sgminer-gm in EthOS.
Better hashrate, lower power consuption, NO FEE!

WRONG. sgminer-gm is NOT faster than claymore. I have a 480x and it hashes at 26Mhs with claymore and about 23-24Mh/s on sgminer-gm. The claymore fee of 2% still beats sgminer-gm.

Re: Claymore's CryptoNote GPU Miner v9.7
by
auswalk
on 20/03/2017, 04:36:01 UTC
Hi together,

First of all, thanks for your help.
it is up and running now:-))).. After a really hard weak of troubleshooting, the new minig rig i working now, with 4 X RX470 Nitro+ 4GB..
What the hell.. Arizer damaged. 2 of 4 GPUs damaged, PSU trouble.. And many many more..
Now, i´m wondering how i can optimize the Hashrate.. But step by step. First thing. My Rig is lagging really hard, when mining over GPU Miner v9.7.
Is that normal, or is this something i can fix, with better settings? Sometimes, after hours, the rig just shut down.
Is there something i can do. I tried out tons of crimson drivers. Most of them doesn´t work for Win7 64 bit and don´t identify my cards. I only got V16.11.1 and 16.11.4 to work. When i run claymore now, with the following command i get 2450 h/s. This are about 610 h/s per card. Is that good, or bad. There are so many comments, with different hasrates.

NsGpuCNMiner -o stratum+tcp://xmr.pool.minergate.com:45560 -u paapolinho@gmx.de -p x -a 3 (i tried A 4 and A 3 also, without changes)

I also tried to flash the rom, but it doesn´t work. ROM can´t be deletes, was the error. Is there a trick, when i have to push the button on the card.
How can i check, if the card is in the right mode to write the rom? When i push the button, the light is changing the coulor frequently. Is this the right mode?Do i have to reboot, after pushing the button. I´ve found someone who has modified the rom, for rx470 cards, so that i can be sure, it works.
Can somebody tell me, what i´m doing wrong?

And hopefully sombody can help me to optimize my cards.

Many Regards,
Scandalrosi

You should be able to reach over 700 h/s with almost any card, after flashing your cards.
Before flashing you need to check what kind of memory you have on your cards (mostly hynix/elpida/samsung), then use a bios corresponding to that memory, or edit your bios by yourself with Polaris Bios editor 1.41 (basically you copy the 1500 MHz memory strap to 1625,1750 and 2000 Mhz mem straps for hynix and elpida, for samsung you copy 1750Mhz strap to 2000MHz)
For flashing the ROMs succesfully, you need to close de miner and open atiflash in admin mode.
Last thing you have to do is using WattTool to overclock memory frequency (check the differents threads about benchmarks to get an idea of the settings you need)

If you pay for electricity, i would recommend you to use -a 2 mode, which works very well on the RX series too.
"-a 2" low power consumption mode for 290/290x cards. A bit less speed (1%) but less power consumption (10-15%)."

About the lagging, it's hard to tell.
What's your CPU ? Do you use your computer for other purposes than mining?

I'm sure this has been posted but where can one download these roms? Thanks

Tell it to the FBI when you are in hand-cuffs Dino..  Cheesy

Check out the Coindesk story sweet-heart Wink

Do us a favor and SHUT YOUR PIE WHOLE. We know you hate Monero. We don't care about you repeating it every post.

Even if monero was banned from the exchanges it would make it even more valuable driving it underground.

It can never be truly banned, just made a lot more scarce by the governments prohibition stupidity.

Indeed and I've seen it happen a few times. But on the flip side, that whale could double your money.

No, no it is popular misconception about investing in bitcoin casinos. Do you really think you can't lose all of your invested money when you are investing in a casino?
You are wrong. I will take only 1 big lucky bitcoin whale to demolish a bankroll of a casino and take all your 'invested' money away.
