Greetings.
It's been a while.
I have two things: 1: I have had 3  NewPac running pretty much nonstop for 3.5 years now. Amazing!
2: One of them is no longer recognized by cgminer as a valid device and I want to know if there is anything I can do or if I should just let it rest in peace.

I tried moving it from the GekkoHub on a pi to windows and got the same results. Both see the other 2 newpacs with no issue leading me to belive it's the one unit.

This is the message in cgminer from windows. Yes I have WinUSB installed using Zadig. When I run the windows driver installer the bad newpac does not show as a NewPac but as FWICsomethingsomething.

Code:
[2022-07-31 12:50:47.487] USB init, open device failed, err -12,
[2022-07-31 12:50:47.487] You need to install a WinUSB driver for - GSH device 2:16

[2022-07-31 12:50:47.487] GekkoScience detect (2:16) failed to initialise (incorrect device?), resetting

Thanks and yay for amazing hardware that just keeps going.

So I got my 10 2pacs Friday and have been struggling to get them working with any consistency  Undecided
I have tried at every speed from 25mhz - 250mhz and get the same result.
It will hash for 1-3 hours and then either cgminer just quits or a random number of boards between 3-6 turn off or go zombie. It's never the same ones, cause I have been marking the ports and boards that stop working. It is completely random. Everything seems to be working fine for that first hour or so with the exception of an error that pops up occasionally on a random board that says

No valid hashes recently, attempting to reset
attempted reset got err:(0) LIBUSB_SUCCESS / LIBUSB_TRANSFER_COMPLETED

any ideas? screenshot below

also I have one stick that won't allow me to adjust the voltage. it just show .8v per asic and 1.6v total. Adjusting the pot has no affect. So I may pull that one to see if it's causing trouble.

Yup am facing the same problem, On cgminer stratum always detect but wont pool anything after a couple of minutes it goes to Zombie

What system/platform are you running cgminer on?

It's not a chip resistor, it's a 100uF ceramic capacitor. Anything over 1V rated will be fine (I believe the part on there is 6.3V rated).

Thank you as always. Glad I asked.

here is Phil's original pic, with some lettering by @murasame2003 and myself.
It might help some newbs as to where to measure voltage and where to adjust it:

So first sorry for replying to an old post but it has pertinent info/diagram and, say that one of the resistors marked as ASIC Voltage in this pic 'came off'. Can I solder a new one on or is it fried? If I can, what rating is that chip resistor?

Thanks

This is very exciting news. That gives me nice ideas for cooling my 1 remaining r808 with quieter fans.

Thanks for the updates. Excited for your work.

I have had my 2pacs running at 225MHz nonstop for a long time no problems. Thanks to all the help in this forum it's now just a stable little farm.
After all this time, one of them stopped blinking. I figured it had bit the bucket but when finding it in the cgminer conosle it's still chugging along with no HW errors. Has anyone ever had the blinking stop on a 2pac? Should i worry?
I am a bit color blind but it looks to be a steady blue even though it's hashing.

Are the cooler master 50x50x20 fans what people are upgrading the "stock" fans with?

from a few posts back:

These got these fans on recommendation of another uses. https://amzn.to/2xvCzZh
You also need to get longer screws.

I bought a few these units, have to say they work pretty nice. My only problem is getting to the max hashrate speed. You know the heating problems. Any solutions out there? I have noticed fan slowdown approaching fan failure on these units, a couple of times 1 of the fans refused to start, but it is a fan bearing issue. I don't want to zombie these units, so I keep extra fans on them at all times and I don't run them higher than 200mhz.

Just looking for a good thermal solution to run them at the full 480 gh/s.

Cheers

But for max speed, 200 MHz is the default as well as the only guaranteed rate. I had one that would do 275 but the other errors out even with increased cooling at 225 so I keep it at 200.

My thoughts after some time with these:

Don' use power bricks. They can't properly power them. I bought the highest rated 12v 6a bricks and they weren't up to the task. Two burned out completely, and another kept putting the pod in zombie status.
The ones connected to a PSU (EVGA Supernova 550) ran 20 days before needing a reboot.

Of my six units, two were giving me issues with shutting off or inability to reach higher frequencies. I replaced the stock fans on them with ones from cooler-master that have twice the airflow rating (https://amzn.to/2xvCzZh) [and 50mm M3 screws] and that's got them in line. One still doesn't want to go above 200mhz, but that one was giving me trouble from day one and Sidehack had agreed to take a look at it, but now that I've got it stable at 200, I'm fine with it.

The 550 PSU is now powering all 6 at 200mhz and putting out a combined 536 GH/s which is right in line (slightly better) than the predicted output.

As I live in the south and it is 109 here with the heat index, I have 2 140mm fans adding to the fan power and neither the noise nor heat are bothersome. Excuse the lack o cable management, was still fiddling with them this morning. They are mounted in a line to maximize airflow through the heatsink channels, and when it's really warm in my office I add a third 140 to the end to help push the warm air away from the pods.

Bottom line: I love these pods, and they are perfect for summer mining in a small home farm.

http://biggerdiapers.com/gek.jpg

Thats great info. I have been meaning to find a good replacement fan I have also found adding some riser feet or having the bottom exposed helped with the heat dissipation and stability of my little 2 unit setup. (one is in for repair currently)

try a different computer if you can or different power supply.
What speed are you trying to hash at?

I did try that. Used the power supply from the Terminus that has been fine since in got the, on a desktop and another Pi. Still only shows zero chips detected.

This one has only been running at 200 since I got it back from Sidehack.

I guess I'll have to send it back.

This is what I see.

I had this same problem on one of my pod, i left it alone and after an hour or so it fixed itself.

Weird but I have them all working now.

Huh, I have one that runs great at 200 and another that went down to 6 chips, was repaired by sidehack and worked great for a few weeks but now shows zero.

I tried powering off for 9 hours and still had zero.
Did you do anything else after the "rest" that I can try?

Finally got a decent voltmeter and it's taking a lot of the guesswork out of this fun!
One of my Terminus only reaches 3.07V with the potentiometer at max. Now I know why this one won't hash reliably over 200MHz.
Needs a steady 3.02V for the next step up 225MHz.

Now, does that mean with a better power supply it could get more power to the chips and hash above?

Got the V to MHz from this:

Hi,

Temperature question:
Is there an expected temperature for 200MHz?

I am running it on the 12v 6a brick through a RPi W with a temp of 119F on the outside chips to 123F on the central cips. Measured on bottom surface next to the BM chip with a thermal probe. I assume it's the chip as it's square and there are 8 of them.

Sidehack mentioned there is a temp sensor but I am not sure where that is. It would be nice to have it marked on the image on the first post.

Yeah I was either reading the G (A 5 second exponentially decaying average hash rate
) item in the cgminer display status instead of the Gh/s.
Code:
3: GSE 10030157: BM1384:8 200.00MHz HW:0 | 149.0G / 86.40Gh/s WU:1207.0/m

Either way, this one is in normal bounds now.

Yeah, arbitrarily heat the temp sensor to at least 60C. If the fans aren't running full speed it's because it's not hot enough to need to do so.

The main regulator isn't directly cooled by those fans anyway so that shouldn't change much.

Also how are you getting over 130GH average when 250MHz peaks at 110GH? And then the fans idle down? That only happens when it's cold, and if it's cold it's not hashing at 120% theoretical max.

I think something is wrong because too much of what you're saying you're seeing doesn't make sense.

Sorry about being unclear. I am just going by what cgminer is outputting. What would help debug why one is having trouble over 200MHz?

I have had one running off a Pi at 250MHz for the last 15 hours that is now at an average of 82.45Gh/s but has 411 HW errors. No resets, still 0 GSE.
This is the one that was idling down the fan. I watched the CGminer output for a while last night but didn't see any correlation between the work/difficulty or pool when it happened. Yeah, should not happen as they are still hot and hashing. The auditory pitch change from fast to slow sounds like slower than when the unit is idle. Is fan speed output on any debug channel?

The other is running stable at 200MHz for the 15 hours off another Pi and 3 2pac.
This one can sometime get stable at 225MHz but has a lot of HW errors.

I am happy to help in any way.

EDIT: to note that I just noticed the cgminer output on the pi with one R808 is reporting COMPAC-6 now.
