Much of this analysis is circumstantial. We cannot say for certain whether or not these flows imply a shared agency in both incidents. However, it does
illustrate the power of our tool when tracing the flow of Bitcoins and generating hypotheses.

Your magic NSA database of bitcoin-address-to-identities would be a large collection of circumstantial evidence, not definitive proof of associations to identities.  It could be used as probable cause for search warrants and subpenas, but without collaborating evidence, it is worthless by itself in an actual domestic criminal case.

Likewise, a magic NSA database of ip-address-to-identities is also circumstantial....

All they have is the mac address of my tablet and maybe some geo data.  If that tablet is never discovered by warrant, never registered or otherwise associated with me, it can't be used as evidence linking me to the activity....

You make the claim that "governments can remove your anonymous WiFi Hotspot."  I would like to see a reference to a paper explaining how this is done, or an understandable explanation based on facts.
[/quote]

Perhaps it's just me but I didn't read the reference to be taken literally, but as a common language explanation of anon-internet access, by wifi or whatever, becoming so difficult it may be impractical. Although you are correct, its not impossible, but your university access could make it easier to correlate you with whatever you did. Even if your not directly connected to the devices mac in any way the retailer is. Even if purchased second hand the original owner is, and your purchase probably involved email or other electronic contact a limited number of times that would pop out of the original owners records.  This can be enough for a correlation. Your university puts you in a photo-hot-zone. Run the faces, weighed for proximity based on whats known and suddenly meaningless metadata on each person becomes a frighteningly powerful tool. Sure its beyond the reach of local pd at the moment, but that is changing. I am not trying to make a case for theft, but you would need to somehow access a device, and best if its not reported stolen (which would narrow your location down). Cellular access is good, but shut it off for a period of time before you rx/tx and again after and wait a while before you leave the area. Point being, its kinda impractical.

There was an experiment done involving kittens, the details of which I am not at liberty to disclose, but I did confirm it, Gavin has an imposing impostor.

No kittens were hurt during the experiment (as far as I know).

Re: p2pool hosted VPS control your own pool.

You could look at this as a personal stratum pool, but really it's about bringing the benefits of p2pool to as many people as possible.

I have also been considering setting up some sort of mine assist to help smaller operations see at least one or two shares per day. It may even be possible to set up smaller miners with borrowed workers to overcome the long wait between payouts for smaller miners, Perhaps slightly less efficient but if the extra mining power was on a worker with a btc address and the pool had 0 fee then I believe the return would be about the same for the loaned power, with the benefit of getting the pool a share or so and paid out once or twice a day. To be clear, this is not a working feature but rather an hypothetical solution to the problem of smaller miners and the time between pay outs, which is a common objection.

i am trying to figure out how we can set it up to cover the cost of hardware.I believe its not so much about the hardware as making it simple to get started and reliable once its going. I am going to begin with CentOs containers under openVZ, I believe 512 should be enough memory for smaller pools and even larger ones probably not much more then 1.5 GB. Like p2pool itself, I would simple ask the users to donate a small amount to help cover the cost of hardware, or perhaps just set a merged mining of name coin to the projects wallet. For mining directly that would be a 0 loss of btc return strictly speaking.

I am currently running nodes on Ubuntu 12.04, Debian 7, CentOS 6.4 (all 64bit).

So far I am having the best experience with CentOS and p2pool but bitcoind seems to like debian\ubuntu flavors. Maybe not. I believe others have had similar experiences but I need to look into it more before I make any conclusions. I am always open to any new or old information I have not seen....

p2pool hosted VPS control your own pool.
by
aynstein
on 15/01/2014, 18:36:52 UTC

I will be launching a hosted p2pool VPS service with the option to have your p2pool node merge mining for multiple alt coins while mining BTC.

I am trying to generate some interest in this service and would love any feedback about what would get you to start mining with p2pool. My plan is to keep it as inexpensive as possible. Free if donations to the project can sustain it. I am still looking for ideas on community oversight to ensure the service is setup and operated in a way that will benefit bitcoin and all of us with it.

I believe the more people mine with p2pool the better it will be for everyone, even if some of them do so off of hosted vps.

If your interested in having a hosted pool, speak up.

If your wondering if this is a good alternative to the p2pool node you already have setup and running, it's not. This is something intended for those not mining with p2pool because of the relatively difficult setup process.

If your wondering if p2pool mining can be made simple enough that anyone can reliably mine on it, the answer is absolutely.

Happy Mining!

Re: BitOfGlory.com - here's another one.
by
aynstein

WHOIS dates to the 4th and is private.  They are claiming to be under the company Dynastacks (a major hosting company).  Dynastacks has public registration information, been around since 2005 (at least their domain has), and has no mention, links or ties to BitOfGlory.

I was greeted right away with a chat at Bit Of Glory, didn't need to put in my name, or any information, and nonetheless, the chat agent did not have the professionalism I would expect  from a company as reputable and big as Dynastacks. And of course when I point that out, all of a sudden, the agent started using capitalizations, spelled out his words and proper punctuation.  No more 'lols' and emoticons.

My verdict: Stay away.

Although slightly creeped out at how quickly you were able to poke holes in this I am feeling the same way. Something just felt off. I can't put my finger on it but I believe something isn't right. Going to investigate further. If any "liars, competitors etc" have any info please share. Dynastack is legit, so is this just a case of their sales chat being owned or something?

edit: for some reason I thought i recognized the name but no one seems to actually know them. May have recently went under or some other shenanigans, the 866hosting is a bit odd.

I felt manipulated, like someone was pushing me and I wasn't sure why. Kinda timeshare-presentation-dirty aftertaste. Person used several timeshare sales tactics that I was able to pick up but could have been just an overly ambitious kid trying to make a buck.

Also, should be noted, even if they deliver on a few small contracts, could be easily purchased off of ebay and then setup as a short term bait into a larger contract. I would consider going in on a small contract if someone wants to test the waters (after reaching out to parent company tomorrow during regular business hours).

Someone please make a bitminter type client for p2pool

Really? If I make you a client you would mine p2pool?

If you're not being sarcastic....yes!

Do you think many other would? What type of hardware do you mine with? The "client" is just a guy over cgminer or bfgminer I can't remember which.

Re: Why are people drawn to GHash.io, and how can we reverse it?

I'm willing to throw down some BTC for bounties to improve other pools, particularly the p2pool implementation.

Right now, if I want to destroy bitcoin, I need to coerce just two people. This is a huge, huge problem.

I have been testing a linode stack scripts automated p2pool hosted vps with the prime directive of miners currently at gnash.io incentive to leave while helping promote truly decentralized p2pool. Not sure if this will attract miners from gnash.io but the idea is to offer miners with a free p2pool vps that is setup and deployed for them in minutes, and makes things people either love, or hate, like merged mining, already set up and good to go. I think it would be best if the entire setup is and was audited by trusted well known people if possible, and I could use help of course! I do not have the financial wherewithal to support this indefinitely but I am able and willing to start with a 2 or 3 btc worth of hosting. I have been testing on linode vps but it would probably require dedicated hosting with some sort of stack-script like solution to be as cost effective as possible. I am not sure if this is something that may get some of the "independent" miners to take action but I am sure its worth trying, if not this then something ... Is this the type of thing you would support? This is by no means a perfect solution, not even sure if it is a good one but its an idea and now its yours to judge. If someone has a better idea I would happily donate my btc I am about to spend on hosting and use it in some other way.

Guys. Is anyone interested in opening a Skype Chat group to discuss P2Pool configurations.

I have setup several coins that are working perfectly now on P2Pool.

These include Dogecoin, Worldcoin, Feathercoin, Casinocoin

I have configured Grandcoin and Frankocoin but have a few issues getting these up and running. The process runs ok but all my stats are blank.

If anyone wants to trade coin settings or work on this together let me know. Lets work on expanding ALT coins available on P2Pool sites. It benefits us all.

Im also hoping to roll out Earthcoin soon.

If you want to discuss further PM me or hit me up on Skype. My Skype ID is SEOCrow

Did you make any progress with this? I would do a Skype conf also, but we should post the results on the forum. I read at least 3 people up for skyping...lets try and do it in the next day or so?

Umm, bitcoin is worth $800. Champagne, anyone?
Who gives an over worked poop how much your bitcoin would be worth. Cease and desist, find a rose and inhale using the nose. Then look at how much is bitcoin is worth. If you still want to complain, go back to the rose thing and grab it by the stem.

ps. hrm, ok. That sounded more insightful in my head.

pps. that head thing sounded less crazy in my head.

Ok. Who is the owner of this website? How things are going? Someone HAS to know him.

Who purchased bitcoin.org?

The real question is:  who are YOU who ask such questions?
WTF dude? I'm in here since this was like an uber-secret masonic club with a handful of members.

Is that why no one has shown me the handshake? I aint masonic enough for y'all. Or is it because I have a tendency to digress about things unrelated to the topic which we were originally discussing and got lost in thought on things not relevant?
