Re: Ian Coleman BIP39 / Derive P2SH addresses from Electrum generated Seed
by
bartekjagoda
on 08/06/2020, 10:15:42 UTC
Short answer: Electrum seed phrases and BIP39 seed phrases differ in the way they handle passphrases. Since you are entering the seed phrase as a BIP39 phrase, you use the BIP39 method, which uses the word "mnemonic" rather than the word "electrum".

Longer answer: When your seed phrase is used to generate your private keys, the first step is to pass it through a key stretching function called PBKDF2. The PBKDF2 function used has two input parameters. The first input parameter is your seed phrase. The second input parameter for BIP39 seeds is the word "mnemonic" concatenated with your passphrase. You can see this in lines 810 and 811 of the Electrum code here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/9d0bb295e6f55a2bff9f5b6770fa744c16af6e8a/electrum/keystore.py#L810.

Conversely, when using Electrum seeds, instead of using the word "mnemonic", it instead uses the word "electrum" concatenated with your passphrase. See line 164 here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/a0b096dcb2292c2826f7beae173c529d335142f0/electrum/mnemonic.py#L164.

Is this also used together with trezor/ledger passphrases or any other known wallets?

Re: We can recorvery passphrase wallet.dat with open wallet.dat by hex editor?
by

on 01/06/2020, 13:25:13 UTC
Dear All,

I had hear some people said that thay can recorvery  passphrase wallet.dat with  open wallet.dat by hex editor.
it's real ?

Thank

The wallet.dat file uses DB format, so if you know the DB format you can see where the encrypted password is stored.

You cannot see the passphrase, but you can extract the string that is the encrypted form of the password and need to execute
some decoding on it before it becomes the passphrase.

So the claim is partly true, but most likely they are just trying to scam you to get into your wallet.

The thing you want to do is use bitcoin2john.py from the John the Ripper or Magnum Ripper github repo and with that string (which is a hash of the password) use various software to try to find your passphrase.

The most common is Hashcat and you can ask around at hashcat.org to find out how to use it most effectively.

Re: Whale
by
bartekjagoda
on 02/05/2020, 15:19:09 UTC
I often heard this word, whales. What is whales term on cryptocurrency? How does it affect the price of one coin?in what way?

Usually this is someone who can single handed change the bitcoin price by setting long and shorts positions usually at different exchanges and therefor move the price of BTC more that 10 %

Ex 1) there are short positions on Bitmex that might expire of the amount of 100mUSD in a day and a Whale by moving the BTC price can "crash" those positions with a huge order that will render those positions worthless.

Simultaneously he might have other positions at other exchanges that will trigger the "bot" trading army to panic sell or buy.

Therefor a whale by definition is someone who can single handed make big "waves" on the price by making the price go up or down at will.

There are many thesis what amount a whale need to have in order to create those "waves" but in reality it is really how many sell/buy orders there are on the markse so that he can "trick" sellers with a fake "sell wall" and creating panic and simultaneously buy those who panic sell.

A famous Bitmex Whale is JOE007, you can find him on twitter.

Hope this clears some of the smoke

Great description, thanks for the write down.

How much it cost and time frame needed for developing platforms like coinbase e.t.c.

There are many whitelabel solutions so you can be up and running with a simple version in one week.

Although, your biggest problem is users and market makers (liquidity). You would need to have someone guarantee
that if a whale comes in and puts a 10mUSD order you will be able to process that.

Re: Don't auto Save your login details
by
bartekjagoda
on 01/03/2020, 07:44:56 UTC

Well it will save your account information if you agree to save it but if you not then you'll need to retype it again if you are logging in which is recommended for our accounts safety, i think cookies has less work about the credentials and it is more about our browsing activities. I think it is just simple, if possible do not use public computers in accessing your wallets or exchange site you stored your money but if not then make sure to watch yourself from clicking too much so that your account will not be in danger. If you have your own device, laptop or phone you can save your account details for it is only you who will use that device.

Cookies save the passwords so that you don't need to ever login and just type the URL like gmail to login your email account. Phones can be hacked easily. It saves your credentials. Recently uninstalled my browser, deleted my cookies folder and had to login again to all the sites where I was previously logged in.

There are popup ads nowadays which directly get installed on your computer and are malware. I detected one recently and had to delete it. In public places there are CCTVs as well so they can take a note of your password as you type it. I have noticed people even peeping in your device while you are typing your phone password.

AFAIK you can choose to synchronize your passwords with your Google Account so you have access to it from other devices. So, yes.

It's only if you sync else it's saved only on your device. Best is not to sync.

If course you can steal that person credentials by extracting cookies from any browser and convert to json and import on any other computer

Dormant blockchain.com accounts?
by

on 19/11/2019, 14:30:08 UTC
⭐ Merited by The Pharmacist (2)
There seems to be a lot accounts setup at blockchain.com and blockchain.info with the passwords lost.

What happens with the bitcoin after a few years, does their support siphon the coins?

I mean they have the wallet IDs and wallet backups in JSON format together with email addresses, but if a person loses the mail associated with the wallet then BOOM, your coins are gone. A friend of mine has been trying to recover a long lost password since 2013, a big chunk of coins, but since his mail provider went out of business he has no way to request a backup wallet.

Anyone in similar position?

Re: Coinliker Youtube Video Review Service

Bump

You know you are better off checking out coin projects and making videos of them, then later offer them a follow up with Q and A, that way you could easily earn 100 USD per customer and they would see a test video.

Instead you are lowering you fee from 50 to 25, to be honest, if you release a coin and find your service valuable, it is not a big difference to pay 50 or 100 USD. I know people paying 2000-20.000 USD if the video quality is good.

Just a tip

Strange, this person asked for help but never cared to login again after posting here. Seems suspicious.

Actually it's common sight, someone ask for help then never come back after people give help or guidance. We never know whether someone :
1. simply don't bother to give thanks / say which guide works for him
2. frustrated and left because all guide doesn't work for him
3. merit farmer (asking a constructive question and hoping someone will give him merit)
4. still trying to solve the problem

I will guess #3, Merit farmer. Its such a pity.
