moving air around has a cooling effect, especially since miners operate at temps that are generally above even the highest ambient temps...unless you happen to live in Death Valley or Aziziya

if you let the air get trapped in a building or room, the miners can quickly raise the temps to really high levels...exhaust that hot air and also bring in fresh, cooler air then you can maintain stasis

it is "cooling" even if it is not using some sort of refrigeration mechanism to do so

yeah, that is the thing I find confounding.   this whole idea of a scam originated from the claims of a single individual who created an account to grouse and moan that he didn't win a free miner in a contest.

that the pool has continued to pay out and those who are actually mining have gotten excellent support from the owner and his designates for months now doesn't appear to be enough to clear the specious claims of one clearly fake account.

Many of us got the 10% bonus for several months.  It was great while it lasted, especially since we all knew it couldn't last forever.


Late payouts can occur when this pool is catching up from an unlucky block.  This has been made pretty clear and we all understand the risks but so far, s0br has made good - sometimes with extra for inconvenience so we stick it out because the pool pays better than any other and waiting a few hours every once in awhile to get that is something that may of us are willing to risk

if you don't want to take that risk, it is understandable.  Mining is risk anyway.

 
I wasn't aware that providing support in this forum was a requirement for starting a pool.  Frankly, given that weakly substantiated attacks can continue by accounts clearly created for no other purpose than to defame the pool owner, I am not surprised that s0br doesn't come here to provide support.  What would be the point?  It would just devolve into an accusatory troll war and would be useless to those seeking help.  s0br provides direct support in IRC, email, and via the site tickets.  He and his folks are responsive, helpful and have always made it right...at least from my perspective and from others with whom I have spoken.

I am not generally one to jump onto things that appear to be too good to be true - which is pretty much how this pool has been characterized in this thread by a few who probably aren't even mining there - but the honest answer is that for those of us who have actually been mining there for the better part of 10 months now is that the pool does pay out and does so much better than the majority of other pools.

I am confused about the first point...statistically speaking, over a period of time the luck should even out and even a PPS pool will "break even" yes?

the second point I understand...as we have experienced first hand, the pool needs to have a pretty good buffer to get over the unlucky humps

no, btcgarden didn't use a cgminer.conf file to configure cgminer...that is why all the configs are on the script when it starts cgminer

so, you have api-listen running, it should be going

you might try downloading miner.php from https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/miner.php and putting it in the /var/www directory on the miner.  If that runs and works, you know that the cgminer api is pushing data

check /var/www/run.sh to make sure the cgminer startup script includes --api-listen

since the thermal paste isn't an adhesive, I am betting that most of the strength in the bond is from vacuum which can be pretty significant.

it isn't going to have much shear strength so sliding or twisting should break the bond.

warming it is going to be challenging because the heat sink is designed to radiate the heat away from the chip itself.  You are going to need a pretty decent heat gun to overcome this.
