Re: Have you ever invested in an ICO?
by
beheddard
on 08/04/2018, 19:13:53 UTC
The only ICO I participated in so far is valued much lower than the ICO price, which is a bit of a bummer, but a risk I took. I've just taken the opportunity to buy more since I still believe the product has potential. I'd suggest others to consider the same if they are in a similar spot and think that it should recover when the market picks up again. This way your average buy in is much lower, meaning you break even/profit much sooner when price begins to rise.

Re: Trading is gambling after all
by
beheddard
on 26/02/2018, 07:10:42 UTC
well gambling has a clear definition. it is something that you can not predict at all. it is 100% pure chance. for example when you roll a dice or flip a coin there is no way to know what the result of it will be. meaning pure chance.

but when it comes to trading and prices, it is hard to predict but it is not 100% unclear. you can expect certain scenarios to happen with different levels of certainty based on the market situation. and that is a big difference that makes it distinguished from gambling.

If we presume that the absolute majority of traders are losing in the long run, then, to me, this pretty much counts as gambling.
why would you make that assumption? based on what data?

even if we assume it is true, that still doesn't make "trading" like gambling. instead it makes "traders" as gamblers. and there is a big difference there.

Quote
When you flip a coin and you don't know anything about your chances, you can also build sophisticated theories why, for example, you should get heads more often than tails. But it doesn't matter, does it? Given that there is a sort of house edge in trading too, we should unmistakably come to the conclusion outlined in OP.
first of all making theories doesn't mean these theories are correct. and when it comes to gambling such as flipping a coin you will never get more heads and tails. every flip has an equal chance of going either way no matter what happened before.
and that is one of the differences. for example in trading if there was a big rise (ie what happened before) then you can expect a drop or correction (you can predict heads or tails since one has a much higher chance of happening now)

secondly house edge means the house or the thingy you are betting against has a better chance of winning than you. there is no such thin in trading, and you are not trading against one entity. you are trading against a lot of others based on the market movements.
if you can go with the flow you win.

I like the point about a rise being more likely to be followed by a fall than not. There will always be some luck involved, but with smart decisions you should be able to 'win' more often than you lose. I'm just trying to build up the skill of knowing the correct times to sell and buy back in during swings to take advantage of this and increase my holdings in the coins I've chosen. Now, daytrading on minute candles, to me that feels more like gambling. Doesn't mean you can't be good at it though.

Re: Impact Of Artificial Intelligence And Machine Learning on Trading And Investing
by
beheddard
on 26/02/2018, 05:56:47 UTC
This is complete nonsense!
There is no evidence that this works.
And to write just a program that will work according to a given algorithm, it's not an artificial intelligence.

If he existed, then if he realized himself, he would not get into such nonsense  Grin

Well I mean it's not nonsense. AI and bot trading is something which is far-reaching in traditional markets and something which is, without a doubt, already in crypto. I wouldn't doubt that people are testing AI machines right now to try to gain historical intelligence of what people do in regard to buying, selling, holding etc. There is a ton of money to be made if something like this can be coded and perfected, I await seeing if someone can pull it off.

Sounds pretty insane, would be horribly (though cool) to see.

Without enough historical data (as you say, collection has already begun), and when things cool down a little (from being so volatile) I could see these things being more effective. But right now, it is a lot of faith to put in to trading algorithms to have them throw money around for you when things can change at the drop of a hat that would be hard for us to predict, with access to all the news etc, let alone for a bot that does TA. Probably just a matter of time though, I wonder what the market will look like then.

Re: Are you sick of cliche trading advice?
by

OP, if you're new to bitcointalk you might not be aware that there are these things called signature campaigns, where businesses rent out members' signature and/or avatar spaces, and some of the campaigns pay enough to finance a pimp lifestyle for those who live in 3rd world countries.  It's astounding.

My point is that a LOT of people here are only posting because they get paid to do it, and a lot of them are uneducated knuckleheads who have great difficulty stringing words together so that they form coherent sentences.  The end result is that they learn how to write a small number of thoughts, and a lot of them are ideas they've copied from places, and none of it is original or interesting.  That's the main reason you keep reading the same shit over and over.  I think of this forum as a bullshit words reconstitution factory, because that's what they all do.  One of the cliches I see very often is "Never gamble [or invest] more than you're prepared to lose", which should be obvious to any rational person, but these shitposters find it necessary to write this in thread after thread.

So that's the main reason why, OP.  Others might disagree with me, but this is the truth as I see it.

I find the same thing on Reddit honestly, despite the lack of signature campaigns, and even when the bounty campaigns for coins are long over, the low effort shilling continues. If there isn't any bounty left, what's the point in posting in every damn thread about [insert coin] and saying "Wow! This is great news for [insert coin]!". Are they holding bags? Or hired shills working out of a click farm? I can't tell anymore.

Re: Do you join ICOs that requires KYC?
by

on 26/02/2018, 05:18:36 UTC
I have, but I tend to choose the ICOs I invest in very carefully, so I have a certain level of trust at least in those running the show. If I was throwing money into more ICOs looking for quick flips, even if I don't believe in the team/product/etc, then I might be a lot more wary of doing KYC.

Re: How to know if airdrop is legit
by
beheddard
on 24/02/2018, 05:19:05 UTC
Well, besides wasting time, as long as you are not giving the airdropper personal information, your private key or money, there isn't so much to lose. But as others have said before me, things to lookout for in a non-scam project are: a real team with experience, a reasonable roadmap, a whitepaper, the coin/token addresses a real need (so it isn't useless). If you consider all of these things and use your head, you should be able to avoid scams are plain old garbage projects.

Setting rules for looking at coin tracking Apps
by
beheddard
on 24/02/2018, 02:27:13 UTC
Whether you use Blockfolio, Delta or some other APP, I'm sure many of you like me feel the frequent pull to check up on your portfolio to make sure everything is fine. I was wondering if anyone has had success with setting up rules/guidelines for yourself on when it's fine to take a peak, outlawed checking during certain times of day, limiting to once, or whatever. I go through phases of not having anything that I'm interested in trading away or watching anything for an entry, so it can be easy sometimes. But other times my eyes keep being drawn to the Delta icon.

I've had some success so far with setting up good price alert points on the coins that need them and then doing my best to keep my distance unless my phone informs me that a limit has been breached. Anybody have some good stories or strategies around this conundrum that could work for others as well? The stress is likely to shave years off our lives, so we may as well enjoy the ones we still have without being glued to our screens right?

Anyone have experience with the Radar Relay Decentralized Exchange?
by
beheddard
on 24/02/2018, 02:06:39 UTC
I am pretty familiar with IDEX, and have used it quite a lot for ERC20 trading, but having just discovered the Radar Relay exchange recently I was wondering if anyone who has used both could speak to the pros and cons. I understand that it makes use of WETH or 'wrapped ether' to fit with the 0x protocol, but that shouldn't really change the experience a whole lot, given that you already have to move ETH into the exchange smart-contract to trade on IDEX. The UX looks nice, so I guess I'm most curious about snappy Ledger integration and order matching. Better? Worse? Please let me know your experience!

People, please calm down about yelling scam any time there are delays. Yes, it is a pain when exchanges don't process your transactions quickly, but it is not a good cause to start spreading panic.

When making an entry in to the market, price matters a lot, but once you have it and it is something you plan to HODL, best not to worry about short term price fluctuations. It'll drive you mad.

Best course is to only bother putting the time in to the ones you think have a realistic chance of being valuable one day. Otherwise it is a lot of hassle for nothing!

The website doesn't look professional. Where is the team there no transparency? I click bounty link and there is nothing to show. The whitepaper doesn't look so good either.
And you have mentioned all of the reasons not to invest in this ico. OP has an intention to make promote bitcoin fuji. I was seeing some ridiculous thing about that.

This is not my first time to see this kind of thread.

There are some threads are discussing this too.

I'd liked to call this one as an unknown project without any transparency.

A big risk involved in this one.

I dont see any risk

Really? There is no crypto without risk, let alone one with the shortcomings lobo13hf quotes and talks about.

Not just the platform, but the tx fees as well. For example, if you're using ethereum, it is always a good idea to check the network activity level and suggested "gas" fee on ethgasstation before sending a tx from your wallet. Sending from an exchange is a different matter, as they have their own process and have control over what fee is used. So you'll just have to be patient.

I would not say it is the best choice right now, but I keep up on all the news about it because I'm very interested in what they have in store with all of the partnerships they've been accruing. The technology could be a real game changer if they can work out the kinks and phase out the coordinator this year.

You should always strive to keep your data/keys safe enough that you don't have to be as worried about hackers. Also, always check your urls and don't click on sketchy stuff.

The ANN threads on this forum, /biz/, reddit, scrolling through low ranking coins on CMC. All of these are places where you can discover new coins/tokens you haven't heard of, but you'll always need to read far and wide from the first place you spot it before you can get an idea of whether investing is a risk you want to take.
