Is there a DHL distro location near you?  Call DHL and see if they will hold it at one of their locations for you to pick up.  You will have to show some ID of course.

I've done this with several carriers, FedEX, UPS, DHL...

Good luck

Re: Port forwarding to access Avalon Controller
by
bellco
on 11/01/2018, 21:11:17 UTC
The Avalon controller is listening on port 80 (http).  On your router forward whatever external port you want to internal port 80 of your controllers IP.

If external port 80 is already in use pick a different one…maybe 8080 forwarded to internal port 80 of your controllers IP.

To access externally browse to http://IP:8080

You will want to set the controller to a static IP or a DHCP reservation.  For your public IP you will want to set up dynamic DNS if you don’t have a static IP from your ISP.

This will work, but is not the most secure.  Does your router support VPN?  I’m not going to get into how to set up a VPN, but you should look into it.

Avalon 741 only hashing at half rate
by
bellco
on 11/01/2018, 14:07:33 UTC
Looking for some help troubleshooting a 741 that’s only half working.

I’ve tried multiple power supplies, all on 240v.  2x 750’s, single 1200, may have tried 2x 1200’s but I don’t remember. Tried it in a chain with others and by itself on its own controller.  Also swapped in another 741 exactly plug for plug and it works fine.

I haven’t measured voltage at the miner yet, but on the breakout boards it was reading either 12.4 or 12.6   however accurate that is.
Both boards light up green.  I haven’t taken it apart, but from what I can see of the power connectors there is no damage or bad solder joints.

I received it second hand like this so I’ve never seen it working fully.

I see several differences between this log and the logs of working miners, but I haven’t been able to find how to fully decipher the log.  Maybe I don’t know what to search for.

Thought I’d look for some guidance here before taking it apart to look for connections that may have come loose during shipping.  Seller claims these units were tested, but I won’t get into that here.

Do I have one dead board?

Ideas?

Whats the error?

Your miner is working on wifi, no lan cable plugged in, and its showing up on whatever pool you’re connected to, correct?

I think something else is going on if you can get to the logon screen (I think that is what you are trying to say).  What happens if you connect your laptop to the same wifi network?

How about some screenshots of your setup?  In OpenWrt, one of Network > Interfaces and another of Network > Firewall > General

The lan and wifi interfaces may have different IP’s.  On your wired PC browse to the IP of the wireless interface on the pi.  In OpenWrt you can find what IP’s are assigned to which interfaces by going to Network > Interfaces

Verify your access point or wifi router isn't blocking traffic between wifi and lan.  They usually don't out of the box.

If that doesn't work, you've got to give me more details about your setup.

Did you get anywhere with this?

For a rpi2, use the image named openwrt-brcm2708-bcm2709-rpi-2-ext4-sdcard.img
located here: https://canaan.io/downloads/software/avalon6/openwrt/latest/brcm2708/

Default IP is 192.168.0.100

You can connect without an AUC if you are using the internal iic pins on the pi.   Add " --avalon4-iic-detect" to the last line on the miner configuration page.  I have one A6 connected this way using a rpi3.  From what I’ve read you and only connect one miner this way…not sure why.  I haven’t tried because I only have one A6.  My 741’s are in a chain using an AUC.

I have a couple miners connected with a powerline adapter similar to what HagssFIN pointed to above and I have some 741’s connected using the internal wifi in the rpi3.  Both work fine for me.

Are you asking how to set this up, or do you have the miner running on wifi and want to know how to access the control panel?

What Stemtyme said, check to see if it grabbed a lease from your router.

You can also plug a monitor into the pi and see what IP it’s using.

I don't have it in front of me for the model, but it's one of those HP PDU's that came out of a server rack.  You can pick them up for $50 or so on ebay.

I think it's good for 24A total input and there are 4 c20 outlets with a 15A each.  I've ordered 12ga c20 to c13 cables, one for each miner.

The house is mostly the original AL from the early 70's.  There was a kitchen/sunroom remodel 25ish years ago that was done in copper.  Not sure how they pulled that off, I was away at school when that project was happening.  I know what you mean about century homes, several of my friends have homes that are close to a century and I'm the guy they call when they need help with something.   What's that woven cloth covered wire called?  good times.

I suppose this isn't a toaster oven that's on intermittently for 10 minutes at a time.  When I meet with the electrician instead of just pointing and saying I want 20a there, I'll explain that I'm going to be kicking the crap out of the circuit and to build some margin in.

I don't have time for an insurance claim, or...um, death.

Thanks for being the voice of reason.

Ha! Not just a no, but a Fuck No.  love it.

I wasn't feeling real good about it anyway.  Drywall ceiling and the joists run the opposite direction I want to go, not sure I can fish it.  I'll come up with something.

Your 30A car charger warms up an 8ga?   I would have thought 10ga CU (AL is out the window for me now) for my 20a circuit would have been more than enough.

What size copper would you pull for 20a circuit?

Thanks

Would you bet the farm on aluminum wire?

Hi everyone!

First post and an electrical question.  I know, talk to a qualified electrician, and I will.  Seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people here and I wanted to hear your opinions.

I want to power 3 Avalon 741’s on a single 220v line.  There is a 10ga ALUMINUM wire run maybe 40-50 ft to the main panel.  Nothing else on this line.

This place was built in the early 70’s and aluminum is what I have to work with.  It’s in a mostly finished basement and I don’t have a way to run a new line.

Capacity charts tell me 10ga AL is good for 25A.  I’m planning on putting a 20A breaker in the panel and a L6-20r on the other end.  I have a PDU that has 15A breakers for each of the 4 outlets.  Should be enough power for these three machines.

I understand most of the issues with aluminum is at connections so I will have to find breaker and outlet rated for use with aluminum.

Service entry wire is usually aluminum, right?  I know the A/C, fridge, freezers, etc. have been used in this house for decades, but I’m just worried about this continuous 24/7 load.

What do you think, good to go or will I have a BBQ?
