Re: What is best wallet for long term bitcoin holding?
by

the term 'best' really comes down to what you deem to be the most important factor. me, personally, at least when it comes to BTC and ETH, I value security over convenience, and so I always recommend going with a hardware wallet like Ledger. there are definitely more steps involved when it comes to sending from a hardware wallet but at least you have the peace of mind knowing that it's basically unhackable, and you're 100% in control of your wallet. If you leave it on an exchange then you always face the possibility of a hack but, of course, with the bigger exchanges like Coinbase, Bittrex and Binance you probably don't have to worry much. However, there's also the consideration that many projects (e.g. ICOs, airdrop campaigns, etc) require you to send certain coins/tokens from a wallet and not an exchange (wallet) so that's another reason why keeping it in some sort of a wallet, whether it'd be web-based or hardware, is still preferable over keeping it on an exchange wallet.

Re: How do we change the public's view of Crypto world?
by
bennybeezy
on 21/07/2018, 01:30:54 UTC
I think a great starting point is what's been happening in some universities and colleges where we're actually seeing classes on crypto being offered and taught. However, that being said, I believe it's not so much the younger generation that needs to be convinced, or educated rather, but more so the older generation that is more set in their ways and more fearful of new technologies that force them to change their habits. We have to look at crypto as a paradigm shift because it truly does change everything. Virtually every industry is going to get impacted by blockchain but crypto stands to shake the very core of the established order that feels powerless to stop it. So, it's the duty of the enlightened ones (i.e. us) to spread the knowledge and sow the seeds of empowerment to everyone and anyone who's willing to listen! It's on us to change the world  Kiss

Re: For the love of... don't keep your coins on exchanges
by

I whole-heartedly agree with you but I would say it's easier said than done especially when you HODL like 30+ coins/tokens. It's a big PITA to download a wallet for each one of these coins, and even if you have a LEDGER or one of these 'universal' wallets, chances are you're still going to have to download individual wallets, especially for some of these smaller cap projects that will likely never get support on these universal wallets. I would definitely recommend removing coins off of lesser-known exchanges because then you're asking to lose your coins (happened to me with Raiblocks/Nano, got screwed big time by Bitgrail) but when it comes to the bigger ones like Bittrex and Binance I honesty think most people have nothing to worry about. Lastly, I'd say with BTC, LTC or ETH, or anything you're heavily vested into for that matter, yes that's a no brainer to move them off exchanges, but any other relatively small investments on more popular exchanges you can probably get away with just keeping them there until you're ready to sell.

Re: If your coin increased 40% - 200% in value over night. What would you do?
by
bennybeezy
on 19/07/2018, 23:57:41 UTC
Going off of my own personal experience, I can honestly say that a 40% gain wouldn't cause me to bat an eye considering I was seeing 5-10x gains easy in the previous bull run on almost every coin...but then again, I let my greed get the better of me back then and totally missed out on making some crazy good money. With that in mind, I would certainly be more tempted to consider selling a portion of my holdings if I can 2x on some of them but I'd still likely hold on to the majority because I believe 5-10x gains are again going to be a possibility in the next bull run that is fast approaching.

Re: Low prices, are you excited about the situation?
by

I think one of the worst feelings is thinking you're 'getting a good deal' on something, jumping on it, and then you continue to see prices go down even more. You feel like you got duped. But the truth is, we're all still so early on in the game, so to speak, that even if you buy something at a relatively higher price (from day-to-day, that is), with the bull run that we all know and feel is coming, we all stand to make a very decent profit. I know that I, personally, let greed stand in the way of taking profits on the last bull run and I will never make that mistake again. As far as which coins I'm looking to scoop up, I'd say VeChain, Cindicator and Ethos are going to be my next 3 purchases as I felt I "missed the boat" on those late last year and, frankly, I never thought I'd see them hitting these price points ever again.

Re: Will Altcoin be as important as Bitcoin?
by
bennybeezy
on 19/07/2018, 22:48:27 UTC
Although the monetary value of Altcoins, currently and for the most part, rely on the value of Bitcoin, they are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Once more fiat to altcoin pairings start to get introduced, I think you'll see that reliance and correlation dwindle somewhat. And the reality is, while Bitcoin serves as a great store of value and is more widely accepted as a form of currency, so many altcoins are not even attemtping to compete in that space. If anything, Bitcoin can only be truly appreciated when it's in the midst of all these altcoins because, the truth is, we always need a point of comparison to recognize something's worth and value. Nothing operates in a vacuum, and this holds true in crypto as it does with anything else.

Re: Invest now or wait?
by
bennybeezy
on 11/06/2018, 02:37:23 UTC
Here's the thing...it's so freakin' difficult to time this market because there's so much volatility.

Since the crypto sphere is still relatively new and unregulated, the market behaves very irrationally at the slightest sound of news, good or bad, whether we're talking about fundamentals or from a macro standpoint.

Even if you're a TA guru, there are so many outside factors that can easily influence and manipulate this unstable yet maturing market, which in turn can render this practice ineffective, especially in a bear market.

You kind of just have to roll the dice and understand that all of this is still in it's infancy but if you're in it for the long term (i.e. 1+ years in crypto terms) you're bound to see some sizable gains (again, a relative term), in my opinion.

Proof of Stake vs. Proof of Work

I've been coming across the term Proof of Stake quite often as of late. ETH is going in that direction. What are the advantages and disadvantages of POS vs. POW?

Hey not sure if this question has already been asked but why are no U.S. purchasers allowed to partake in the Divi token sale?

I think this project has huge potential and I was very much considering to be a part of it but then I came across the terms & conditions and was shocked to read that no U.S. buyers allowed.

Any particular reason for that?

Is there any bank/financial institution somewhere in the world that has embraced Bitcoin? Not that I'd deposit my money there, I'm just curious to know it.

I certainly don't know any that embrace it but here's one that will close your account if you decide to buy it!!!

Re: Somebody should make a movie about Satoshi
by
bennybeezy
on 20/10/2017, 22:11:20 UTC
It could be about the IRS, Federal Reserve, Scotland Yard, MI6 and the FBI searching, investigating and going around the world, trying to track down Satoshi. They come across Craig Wright and other imposters. They find a Satoshi Nakamoto in California and demand that he confesses. It turns out that this is the wrong Satoshi. There are car chases, only to catch criminals mistaken for Satoshi.

We walk into the NSA data center with a group of programmers. In front of big screens with scrolling code, they talk about new algorithms that they developed for their new quantum computer, which will try to geo-locate Satoshi's public addresses. One programmer says: "This is the most hash power ever executed by a supercomputer any where in the world" Behind them, we see a huge room with multiple rows of computers. We can hear a loud hum from the heat fans. Another programmer walks over to the wall and turns the air conditioning to maximum. A superior says: "We got congress to give us $2 billion to catch him. If his doesn't work, you're all going back to writing iOS apps for kids."

At the end of the movie, the investigators are standing around a hotel lobby, tired, frustrated and sharing notes. The superiors are yelling obscenities at the incompetent subordinates. Behind them, we see a man with sunglasses, seated and sipping on cognac. He is surrounded by beautiful women. It looks like a scene out of a Dos Equis commercial of the “world’s most interesting man.” He gets up nonchalantly, walks to the front of the hotel, where a bellhop drives up in a Lamborghini, gets out and hands the keys to the man.

The man turns his head, looks back at the investigators and smirks. He gets in the Lambo and starts the engine. The camera zooms in on the keychain, which has a name tag with the initials “SN”. He drives away with a loud roar.

Fade to black.

That's pretty well thought out man. The ending sounds eerily similar to the Usual Suspects lol! I think the story of SN would also be well-suited for an entire season of Mr. Robot!!

Re: What is the best ongoing or upcoming Pre-ICO token sale
by
bennybeezy
on 20/10/2017, 22:00:08 UTC
Due to the high number of ICOs currently taking place, sometimes it seems a bit out of control. Pre-ICOs sales is looking more likely to be the place to get a good investment bargain and sometimes a lot of the Pre-ICOs are over before you hear of them. So it would be good to know everyone's thought on ongoing or upcoming identified Pre-ICOs token sales that are worth having a look at.

I came across these two today....they sound like very promising platforms:
1) https://cobinhood.com/
2) https://bonpay.com/ (pre-token sale)

Re: How much willl you invest in Electroneum?
by
bennybeezy
on 20/10/2017, 21:50:54 UTC
I was all gung-ho about Electroneum. I read their marketing white paper (i.e. non-technical) and was ready to invest a good couple of hundred bucks until I came across a couple of videos (below), both of which make very valid points:

1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAulL_dzsvU

2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5kWnnxoTO4

I'd like to point out that while I think the underlying concept of Electroneum is pretty cool (i.e. introducing crypto to the masses), from a sheer numbers standpoint I feel the coins are overpriced right out the gate.

I realize there is a ton of momentum behind this project though, and while I do wish them and everyone who bought into the token sale the best of luck, I'm going to sit this one out for the time being and wait patiently to see where it goes.

Re: Tezos: A Self-Amending Crypto-Ledger

Am I missing something....didn't people get the memo?

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/tezos-derivatives-crash-amid-management-infighting-and-stalled-development/

“People had no idea what was going on in Tezos,” BitMEX chief executive Arthur Hayes told Bloomberg. “There’s a lot of public information on what’s going on with a project, but most people are too lazy to do any real homework.”
