Yes, Bitcoin is slow, this is one of its problems, which is going to be solved by the Lightning Network or by this ZOLD thing. I'm not yet sure how far this intiiative will go, but it does look promising.

I installed Electrum and created a wallet there. All I know is the seed generated. I don't know private keys from the Bitcoin addresses it manages for me. And I don't see an option to get them from there. So, the question is how safe this system is? Won't I lose my bitcoins one day?

It seems that the weakest part of this Zold project is the centralized distribution of coins. They pre-mined basically everything.

We have Ethereum, Dash, Monero and so on. They all are basde on Blockchain, which is a proven technology, which works for many YEARS already. This project is doing something else, which means it's risyk and not proven.
