How about running another A-841 on  a 110v circuit - any issues doing that?

It's hashing!

All I did this morning was to change the network to DCHP from static.

I guess I missed this because my other Avalons (5-741s and 821) must have been already defaulted to DCHP as I never had to change this before  Tongue

I feel like a fool - oh well, at least it's working!

 >>>> One other quick question - if I run another 841 on a 110v line, will the reduced voltage hurt the machine at all besides reducing the TH/s?

THANKS for putting up with me - much appreciated.

I've tried every possible combination of data cable / AUC converter / PSU (all supplied by 220v) / controllers / internet connections...... - every swap out was done with working items from an already operating A-821. Every swap out resulted in the A-821 restarting successfully. So no faulty hardware/equip there.

I have used several SD cards updated to the latest 841 firmware in several Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. (openwrt-brcm2708-bcm2710-rpi-3-ext4-sdcard.img).

The best I get is a constantly cycling A-841. The same results individually on both of my new A-841s.

I believe my issue is related to the following (copied from the CGMiner API log) (as if I really know anything):

******************************************
[Firmware Version] => Avalon Firmware - 20180305
    luci: 62d814c
    cgminer: b5b497e
    cgminer-packages: 960e108
Socket connect failed => Connection refused
******************************************

It has to be something on my end - hopefully someone can help me with this (internet connection / controller firmware?Huh?)

Thanks in advance

Yes, I did.

Assuming the 821 firmware will also run the 841, I also swapped out a hashing 821 with the new 841(s). Using everything the same, I just removed the data cable from the 821 and plugged it into the 841 - no good - the 841 never got past the green light.

I can't believe both of these new 841s are bad....

Huh??

Sorry, I guess I posted my issues in the incorrect post (your review guide in the hardware section) and it got deleted by the admin - sorry.

But - here is that post (with additional below):

**************************************************************************************************************************
I recently received (2) Avalon 841's and cannot get either of them to run.

I initially tried them downstream of an already hashing 821 - no luck. If I put the 841 1st, then the 821 - neither worked.

I then tried the 841 with their own controller with 841 pre-installed software (for Avalon 821/841) - no luck on either 841 with different power supplies.

I changed AUC3's, data cables.

Nothing I do works.

When I say it does not work or no luck, here is what happens - initially powers up and fan runs at full speed (light light blue/white) for about 20 seconds, the the fans (almost) stops and the light is now green - it never turns blue - never spins back up /hashes.

On other item, both the Kano worker page and the Avalon CGminer status the 841 as connected to the pool OK, but not hashing.

So I have 2- 841's just waiting to start hashing - Can someone HELP me??? !!!
************************************************************************************************************************

Update - I have tried everything:  changing AUC3 data cable, AUC converter, PSU, controllers, internet port connection and even tried all of that on the 2nd 841 (I have just been trying to get one unit to run).

When I rewrote the Raspberry Pi3 Firmware onto a newly reformatted card (again), there was one difference - this time the 841 cycles on and off every minute or so. Now it cycles on (with green light) for a minute now (longer than before), the cycles off (still green) and repeats this on/off routine continuously (always green).  Huh

To reflash the controller, I just need to pop out the sd card and update with the 821 software.

One question - when I popped the card into my drive , it said I must reformat it 1st - I can't open it to see what is on it now (i wanted to check that so I replace the same files..... (I'm not well versed with re flashing ...

Sounds like I need to update the controller software to run the 821.

It is recognized by both CGI status and also Awesome Miner - It shows a good connection, but not hashing.

It has yet to be picked up by Kano Pool Worker page.

I'll work on updating the software. I guess I just need to pop out the card and load the new controller software - I hope its that easy.

Thanks

I do have another controller - I'll try swapping that out now. Can't hurt.

That did not work..

After it "shutdowns" (fan at full speed for 30 seconds) the fan is still running, but barely??

I just received my 1st Avalon 821 today but I can't get it to stay powered up.

I have tried two (2) different and brand new out of the box power supplies, albeit Bitmi.. AW3++s.

With each of the power supplies, it only runs for about 20-30 seconds before shutting down.

I have it setup just like my other 5 -741s. It is on a separate controller and the only Avalon in it.

No issues with the 220v supply.

I know this is not the hardware section, but I also know some of you are very knowledgeable with these type of issues.

I would like to my Th up another 11THs so I can close in on the 100THs (or at least into the 90s).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Am I the only one that got no notification from both the ckpool status app AND minergain? I'm glad we got a block, and I'm all for surprises but holy shit I need at least one of the two to go off  Undecided

You´re not alone. I didn´t get one from either CKPool, or Minergain.

CKPool iOS worked fine for me

I´m on Android. Not had any problems before, but got a new phone two days ago. Double checked the setup of CKPool and it says everything is OK. Just have to wait for the next block later today to see what happens. Tongue

Same here.
Android CK Pool, never had an issue before other than just a little delay of up to 15 minutes. But generally I got the Minergain almost immediately and then the ck pool about 10 minutes later. didn't get either on this block...very strange.

Same for me, no notifications. Still happy - a block with or without notifications is still a block!!

My calculations are the same. This pool needs to hit 8 blocks a month for the payout to be more. 1.1% is a big difference if you are making a fixed amount per month but that is not the case. I understand we look back at the history but what history doesn’t take into account is the amount of new hashing power that has come online and will continue to drive the difficulty to the moon. We need to promote the crap out of this pool and start now. It is the BEST pool here hands down but we are not going to win anymore miners here until WE step up and make it happen. When it becomes unaffordable for the larger miners to mine here, they will slowly leave too. It is more than just money to some but eventually everyone will have a breaking point for one reason or another. I love this pool and you guys are the best but we need to get off our asses and come up with a solution.

Its not about getting more miners to mine at this pool, what should be happening is you and everyone already on the pool should be buying more hardware to keep up with the difficulty, getting the rest of the pool bigger but staying the same yourself means you will just get smaller and smaller rewards.

Instead of spending time trying to get more miners, spend some money and get more hardware yourself. This isn't something new its something everyone has had to do since mining began.

Nope - if the pool grew with new miners then at least the current miners will continue to get smaller and smaller rewards..  if the pool doesn't grow at all then no one gets anything..  less and less of ZERO is not the same as less and less of SOMETHING CONSTANT

that is the point you old heads keep ignoring.. you keep thinking this is the same old small vs big pool discussion and ignoring the ghost ship pool syndrome

I pointed this out months ago and got all kinds of 'stupid native yelling' thrown back at me...  enjoy mining your smugness

PS-   Who is cryptostarusa anyway??  Is that cloud hash that kano is spending his BTC on?  or is it a miner he reached out to and greased his wheels?

Mate the only point that you make is that you are an imbecile. Nothing you are saying is new to us "old heads" we knew about it years before you even had an inkling of it in your head. We knew, we consider and we plan our mining around our knowledge, anything you say is just bad gas. I am one of the few have put up with the rubbish spewing from your fingers but its just boring now, so from no on it'll just be when someone who doesn't know better quotes you that I'll have to put up with it.

The number of miners makes no difference, its just about the size of the pool. Its nothing to do with the pool per-se, its to do with the people mining at the pool, and their ability to increase their hash rate to keep the pool and their income viable. Its better to have less miners with more hash power than more miners with less hash power.

If people want to have a consistent income from mining they have to keep buying hardware to keep up with the difficulty, its the same since day 1 of mining and will always be the same.

If anything the difficulty to keep up is to do with the slow down in technology innovation around mining and the greed and control of a single primary supplier. In the past hardware has got faster, more efficient and cheaper, this has changed recently, that and the increase in value of bitcoin and the subsequent "gold rush" mentality of new miners means its tougher and tougher to maintain that steady growth.

People getting into it now are only just realising what we "old heads" knew 18 months ago. You can't do this at home anymore, you have to have your gear colo'ed somewhere with cheap and abundant power. Problem is that there is no room at the inn for most of the hosting companies.

100% Agree  (especially the 1st paragraph!!).

Newbie question. When a block is cracked did others in the pool directly share work to crack that block? I’m not sure if block mining is truly distributive, or statistically distributive, as in you only need one machine to find the block, and the more machines the quicker.

In simplest form, it is like attempting to find the combination to a digital lock. If you find the combination you get the reward. You may or may never find the combination depending how many characters are in the password (difficulty). By bringing your friends on board with you and joining your effort your chances increase. The more friends that you have helping out the faster you will find the combination (statistically). You agree to split the reward, when found, by taking the total number of attempts made by the group and dividing out the winnings. In other words, to find your reward: Reward / total attempts made * number of attempts you personally made. So to answer your question, all you need is one worker (machine) to get the job done. Numbers is what gets that same job done expeditiously.

Nicely said!! (All newbies should read this - it might just reduce the number of posts significantly  Undecided)

Gotcha. Well, when you are ready let me know. I am setting up a hosting site for myself and a few other people as we will be able to get power at 0.05 cents per kw if we band together and pull our resources together. I would be interested in picking up a few more units.

What country would this be in? If it were US, I'd be interested.
