Hi Jaycoin,

I am assuming your project did not go anywhere?
I ended up buying a Project Skyhook. Many others have also but have got no support. The makers have seemed to have abandoned the project.
Any chance you can adapt your system for the machines?
Better still any chance you can develop software that hooks the machines up to an exchange? This would be highly desirable in Australia as one could then avoid the extra cost of sales tax on the bitcoin itself.
I am sure many skyhook owners would pay for a good solution!

Hi, I don't think I'm understanding you correctly. How is the operator protected against volatility exactly?

Walk me through this if I was initially setting up the unit. Would I purchase Bitcoins from an exchange and then transfer them to my ATM operating wallet? What happens after that? If a user makes a purchase does the machine automatically top up the wallet? Thanks.

The operator is not protected against volatility. All they can do is set a minimum price so that it does not sell below what you paid for the bitcoin.

For example I bought $1000 and put it on my skyhook atm and then bitcoin has fallen over $100. My bitcoin is overpriced and I have sold nothing. I mistook the term "pull request" to mean that it could be hooked up to buy bitcoin in real time when someone uses the atm. Wrong!

I just launched http://coinmap.org/
. All you have to do is to add payment:bitcoin=yes tag to your venue in OpenStreetMap. Venues are added automatically (database is updated every 15 minutes).

Not working! I have tried to add this in all combination too!

UPDATE: It is working - it seems to take a lot longer than 15min.

I just went to Cafe Imbliss 25 this morning! Great coffee! Good service. Transaction in BTC was seemless! If I lived south side it would be a regular for me.

I will try Grump's Green tonight.

Nobody has paid in BTC at Squirrel yet! Not my cafe - I just want my wages in bitcoin!  Wink
No website sorry.

Australian Bitcoin ATM rules:

Dear AUSTRAC,

Could you please advise on a crypto-currency issue? I am contemplating
undertaking a business using an atm/kiosk to exchange AUS dollars for
crypto-currnency. Firstly, ATM's can be owned and operated by
individuals. Secondly, the ATO recently declared that crypto-currencies
are subject to taxation. These two points suggest that this venture can
be done legally. Is there any issue AUSTRAC may have?

Re: Crypto-Currency

Thank-you for contacting the AUSTRAC Help Desk.

With respect to the application of the AML/CTF Act to your business, AUSTRAC is not in a position to provide comment specifically on this issue except to say that:
1         Ultimately, a reporting entity is responsible for ensuring that it complies with the requirements of the AML/CTF Act and associated Rules.

2         It is a matter for a reporting entity to determine what its obligations are under the AML/CTF Act.

3         If you remain uncertain about whether the Act applies to your business, you may wish to obtain your own legal advice on this question.

The view set out above is based on AUSTRAC’s role in promoting compliance with the AML/CTF Act and to ensure competitive neutrality between reporting entities

If you have any further questions, please call the AUSTRAC Help Desk on 1300 021 037 or email help_desk@austrac.gov.au

Yours sincerely, Aaron Moore

Hi Jaycoin,

I am amazed that there has not been that much interest!! You set up looks fantastic! I am certainly interested!

There are 4 other options I have researched:

http://lamassubtc.com/
https://cash2btc.com/#
https://bitcoinatm.com/
https://robocoinkiosk.com

Lamassu-

Positives:
1. Compact, efficient and set up/designed for Bitcoin
2. Sleek and professional
3. No franchise
4. No transaction fee

Negatives:

1. Need to import
2. Out of my budget even though fairly priced

cash2btc-

Positives:

1. DIY no need to import hardware to Australia
2. Cheaper than Lamassu
3. Monitor can advertise

Negatives:

1. Franchise
2. 1% transaction fee.
3. continuity of operation. Central website so if company folds then machine does not work
4. The promoted set up looks slap stick. Could be more professional looking. Interface is not aesthetically pleasing. Works well but seems amateur.

Bitcoinatm and robocoin – These are both fantastic as they do cash in and out and as such innumerably more valuable and would get more custom. Both however are large and most probably of my budget let alone the cost of importing such big machines. BitcoinATM has a built in 3% fee on top of the operator.

I am tempted to get a Lamassu. It is professional and set up to go. Unfortunately, it is more than I wish to gamble upon. I still see an atm device as a gamble but really love the idea of it. I think transaction fees must be as low as possible otherwise people will compare it to other conventional ATMs and think why would I use it.

I also love the idea of setting up your own and the cash2btc is cheaper cutting the loss of the risk factor. I am down with a diy attitude and a simple utilitarian device yet I think a Bitcoin atm however must look very professional and familiar to allow people to trust it and be curious if new to btc and are sceptics. I have great concerns with cash2btc for this reason.

Your system seems very similar to to cash2btc but has a far more polished look. You seem to understand that the image is very important to consumer confidence. You offer the software for free unlike cash2btc. Are you able to offer that the device can show adverts when not in transaction? This would be for two reasons. One, to promote the local bitcoin community and two, to advertise the exchange that I would utilise in return for a cut on the transaction fee.

ps. I downloaded the software but it would not run. It came up with an issue regarding 32 v 64 bit. Does it matter which OS I have? Please note that I also tried to run it on Windows 7 but in Virtualbox on a Mac. Would this matter?

Thanks!

On the other hand, what are the legal implications ( minimal requirements) in running such a business of providing transaction processing software and facilitating transaction operations between customers and businesses? ( AU,US,EU limitations?)especially AU because i am currently there ?

thank you

In Australia APRA does not have a problem. I received this reply to an inquiry.

Dear Mr ****

Thank you for your email of 1 July 2013 about cryptocurrency.

The role of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is to regulate authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs) such as banks, credit unions and building societies and insurance companies, some superannuation funds, and friendly societies in order to promote the prudent management of financial institutions.

APRA has no role in the regulation of payments systems, including cryptocurrency.

The Payments System Board of the Reserve Bank has a mandate to contribute to promoting efficiency and competition in the payments system. For further information of industry standards and regulations can be found of the Reserve Bank’s website.

In addition, the Australian Payments Clearing Association is the self-regulatory body set up by the payments industry to improve the safety, reliability, equity, convenience and efficiency of the Australian payments system. You may find information published of their website to be of assistance.

I trust that this information will be of assistance.

Maybe Satoshi designed it to eventually balance out at around $100 just to make it easy to think about/convert?

I am buying silver also. The more it goes down, I think great! Buy more!

Hi all!

I am looking into buying a bitcoin ATM. Anybody with a cafe or biz in Melbourne, Australia interested in accommodating it?

I am thinking either somewhere around Melbourne Uni hoping the young kids will get into it or at Southern Cross station as people in the city could access it and those catching the bus out to the airport could use it to exchange their AUS dollars before departing.

ps Could anybody point me in the right direction to have a payment button for a website that links to the current market value. Thanks!
