Can any merchant be paid with any coin on that list or do the merchants get to choose what coin they accept? Out of curiosity I selected an item to check out and binance coin (BNB) wasn't a payment option.

I know localbitcoins used to allow bitcoin purchases using gift cards but I don't know if they still do. Maybe you can try that option.

If you don't want to sell it then you will just have to keep holding it because renting will most definitely not work for the reasons mentioned above.

Binance is one of the largest volume exchanges for altcoins with some of the lowest rates. A few days ago they announced that they would no longer be offering services to US customers though (sometime in September) so I'm looking for a new one. I might be switching to Coinex

Since many governments are involved in the same organizations to combat fraud and terrorism, any sources of funding for criminal groups will be identified and destroyed.  Since the cryptocurrency market is still in the shadows and users of the cryptocurrency are largely anonymous, then of course any Government is annoying.  Based on this, all governments will work in the direction not only to legalize cryptocurrency, but also to make this business open and controlled.

I don't think they would like cryptocurrency legalized but since they can't really make it illegal then I would say they try to make it open and controlled as an alternative.

I like the idea of the site but as others have said, the things that they want to buy are mostly unavailable.

I remember there was another site (can't remember the name) with a similar concept like yours but it didn't offer anything for sale. Instead the site allowed buyers to post a link to the item they wanted to buy from amazon/ebay/wherever and then the site would take their shipping address and buy it for them. The site paid cash but the buyer paid in crypto.

That model probably doesn't encourage the kind of crypto adoption you are looking for but at least your customers get to buy whatever they want using crypto. Maybe you can start off doing this until you get a decent number of actual merchants who are willing to accept crypto for their goods/services.

Like killyou72 mentioned: are the the gift cards physical or are they online?
No I cannot provide you with physical cards

I've heard way too many scam opportunities for online amazon gift cards so I'll steer clear of this but good luck

Anyone elese expecting shitcoins to crash by a lot? A lot of people don't even know where to hodl X or Y altcoin/token since most of them rely on Binance to be the "main" wallet for their portfolio (you can still access your coins, but you won't be able to sell, so why hodl on Binance?). I believe some people will move to another exchange, but some others will definitely dump their coins because they don't trust "shady" exchanges.

The new US-friendly Binance platform will most likely not allow the same cryptos they had before so, kinda like checkmate to shitcoins since it'll be Coinbase 2.0.

This is sort of shock to hear but not surprising I think due to bitrex doing it for 32 cryptocurrencies a little while ago
https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-exchange-bittrex-to-block-us-users-from-trading-in-32-cryptos
Wow! Didn't know about this...Shitcoins and worthless tokens on suicide watch  Grin

What a world we live in, exchanges blocking US residents, while corporate coins (JPM coin and FB coin, both US based companies) are about to get launched  Angry

But why do some coins get banned while others are permitted? Don't they all count as digital currency in the eyes of the government?

But why? US, according to the chart is giving them the most traffic so far and banning them doesn't make sense to me. I know I'm lacking information so I hope someone would fill us with this topic.

This is what I want to know. As far as I know since Binance doesn't use fiat (specifically USD) on their site and they are not based in the US then the regulatory laws in the US should not affect them.

How can coinbase still keep internal transactions free?
by
bitcoinuser12345
on 27/06/2017, 15:43:37 UTC
So coinbase has recently announced that they can no longer do free transactions as they are experiencing rapid growth and has introduced a fee for sending bitcoin since the miner fees have gotten higher. Some the fee can be as high as $3.00 worth of btc (as of this day June 27th 2017)

But how can they still do free transactions between bitcoin addresses on coinbase? Is it cheaper to send btc within the same wallet or something? Or does coinbase not actually send bitcoin but simply adjust balances internally within their website?

Re: Accepting paypal payments for bitcoin
by
bitcoinuser12345

The bitcoin sale will be a personal agreement between you and the buyer. Paypal is the payment medium for selling an envelope or something. When you get paid for the envelope, you send the buyer bitcoin along with the envelope. Paypal does not know that bitcoin is involved in the transaction.
Actually paypal don't create chargebacks, buyer need to be trusted to not open any charge backs against his payment to you. In terms of sales of goods buyer can file chargeback upto 180 days from the date of payment so when buyers will have bitcoin they can instantly create chargeback and most of the time buyers will win. What proof you will show paypal that you have actually delivered goods to buyer? also paypal will not believe that you are sending empty envelope for $100.

That 180 days to file a charge back thing was the point of my original post. What's stopping the buyer from filing a charge back with any other item? Nothing. So why are people extra paranoid about selling bitcoin but not as paranoid about physical items? What makes bitcoin so prone to charge backs more than any other item?

And it doesn't have to be an empty envelope for $100. I can send the buyer an empty envelope but tell paypal that it is a gift card being sold. That way the weight and price of the shipped item will not seem absurd.

But if that's the real reason why people advise not to sell bitcoin on paypal then won't that be easy to get around? You can agree with the buyer to sell btc but on paypal make sure the note says you're selling some random item and then you can ship the buyer an empty envelope just to show a tracking number on paypal but the buyer got his btc and you got your $$.

Selling btc in that way is like selling pretty much any other item but people seem to get extra paranoid when it's btc being sold.

You're missing the point I guess. If Paypal ToS already deems bitcoin sales as illegal then any transaction is illegal. Not only is the buyer not protected, you risk funds being frozen.

Paypal is not my favourite at all.

Did you even read the post you quoted? I suggested selling some random item on paypal. The bitcoin sale will be a personal agreement between you and the buyer. Paypal is the payment medium for selling an envelope or something. When you get paid for the envelope, you send the buyer bitcoin along with the envelope. Paypal does not know that bitcoin is involved in the transaction.
