Re: ⚽UEFA Europa League Discussion Thread -- 2024/25 | Winner: Tottenham Hotspur

Lyon FC and Crystal Palace are owned by the same partnership group. They both qualify for the Europa League but due to the Multi- club ownership rules of UEFA both teams cannot play in the same competition if they are owned by the same group. One has to forfeit the competition for the other to play. Some people argue that Manchester City and Girona were allowed to play in the same UCL competition last season despite City football Group holding 44% in Girona shares and 100% in Manchester City, but the truth is that they placed their Girona shares on blind trust to be managed by an independent UEFA approved panel which secured compliance with UEFA rules and the both teams were allowed to play.
Same thing, or at least a similar thing, happened with Lyon. The owner put his shares in a trust somewhere else, so in theory Lyon should be able to get considered not his anymore. If City and Girona could, for the same thing, then we should be considered Lyon and Palace situation the same thing as well.

However, obviously they are not as big as City so they are not getting it done, people don't care about Europa league or Lyon or palace, so even if UEFA made a "bad" decision, the backlash won't be that big and Palace would be hurt and only Palace fans would dislike the decision. Normally, Lyon shares of his, is where it should be, and UEFA should allow both teams to be in Europa at the moment without much issues.

This is mainly because even AI can't make you "not create content", in fact it would help you. So if you are a content creator, and build a brand, don't have to be even just you or your name, could be anything, then you can do it anyway you want at any place.

As long as you have a ton of followers, you can do it at twitter, and want to switch? go to instagram and many would follow, want to switch? Now do at tiktok and many will follow, you want to start streaming? many would follow. So having a ton of people who love your content, would mean you will never starve, no matter how much technology changes, no matter how much the world changes, as long as there are people out there willing to follow you then you should be making some money.

I understand "car" as an example, because lets be honest it is a great comfort, and having your own car would make things much easier. Depends on where you live of course, for example I have never been there, but they say, if you do not have a car at Texas, no matter which part, you would have huge trouble, because everywhere is so far from each other.

But if you have a car in Paris, that would be a trouble to HAVE a car, it would be smarter not to have it, because everything is connected with metro anyways. But if you needed a car, and it made your life better ,then I get it. The parts I do not get, is getting latest iphone, or luxury brand clothes, or most expensive tablets, or tv's, and what not. Things where the alternative is still the same thing. Like, if you don't have a car, you use public transportation, but if you do not use luxury shirt, you still get a cheap shirt, it's the same product.

Lionel Messi is a GOAT and his playing style is very beautiful and entertaining so having him at any club and league is very good in general. Saudi Professional League under investment and strategies of PIF have wanted to build up their national league bigger and better. They have aimed at biggest star players like Ronaldo, Benzema, Neymar and several times tried to convince Messi joining their league.

It shows their big interests on Messi but there is a fact that times flies fast and Messi in 2025 is worse than messi in 2022 or 2023 by ageing effects. Saudi Professional League and clubs there will receive less contributing effects from Messi in 2025 than if they get him in previous years.
They are not after Messi because he plays good, Ronaldo isn't that amazing neither, but for Saudi league level, he is a star, and Messi would be too, look at how he is ripping the world at MLS. The reason why they want Messi is the name, they want to make some big marketing push towards Saudi football, and they already did that with Ronaldo, before Ronaldo there weren't any big names, after him, there were many other big names.

Messi vs Ronaldo would be insane. More than that, if they somehow convince Messi, and bring him to Al-Nassr, that would be breaking the news all over the world, and would get all of Al Nassr games watched more than probably any team in the world. However, Messi said no to them already before, and will not move obviously.

First of all, I would like to share the odds for next season's winner:

- Napoli are favoured the most. Surprised? Not much honestly.  Smiley  Because they are already the last winner and still keeping Conte as well.

- Inter are starting off with a clean slate with Chivu who isn't much experienced as a manager. This is the point I doubt them for now...

- Milan and Roma have new managers while Juventus are also kind of in a similar situation. But I don't think this season will be any of theirs.

When it comes to my opinion, I'm uncertain between Napoli and Inter. Let's see what Chivu has to show us first.  Wink
The two of them is definitely looking like the best bet without a doubt, they are right. Plus, if you bet just on those two, then you make a profit, which is the great side of betting on outrights. If you bet lets say 100k on both, that costs you 200k. So if Napoli wins, then you get 300k back, and if Inter wins then you get 350k back, so in both of them you make a good profit. Obviously I do not have that much money, hell I can't even afford to bet 100 on each right now lol.

But there are plenty of people who do this, even with millions of dollars. The only possible downside would be neither wins and some other team wins. But, if we are being serious for a moment, do we really give any other team chance for this season? I do not think so.

obviously PSG are the favourites to win, but clearly Real Madrid need to realise this defeat and be able to rise again and become a much stronger team and return to winning ways. As for Chelsea, if they don't play a high-level match, I see it as difficult to beat a team that has won everything and is aiming to win this trophy too, and they will.
Real Madrid could get better if they realize their mistake. Now they are looking further into their defenders, and they are also looking into "ego" battle between Mbappe and Vini. Not because Vini and Mbappe hates each other or something like that, but both of them are not really great at going back on defense or pressing.

Xabi needs players that press, because that's how his system works, not too much hardcore Gegenpress, but at least have one guy on the ball at all times, when 2 of your players wait on the side for your team to get the ball and throw ahead to them, you are defending 2 people missing. This is the "ego" issue, because the ythink they are only there to score, when in fact, it's a team game that gets ruined when they do not play properly.

Mbappé has actually caused problems for both teams. During his time at Paris Saint-Germain, the entire tactic was built around him. Now, Real Madrid is facing the same problem. They're building a tactic around Mbappé, but they're not acting as a team player. The manager should remember that Mbappé is a team player and guide him accordingly. Perhaps they can achieve more success through teamwork rather than individual efforts. Paris Saint-Germain is playing as if they've activated their god mode since Mbappé left the team.
The funniest thing is that, people ar enow saying Dembele is better than Mbappe Cheesy And we all know how Dembele was considered not good at all by Barcelona because he was terrible there. But now that we look at it, he won UCL before Mbappe did, and he will win (looks like) club world cup before him. And not only that, there is a possibility Dembele may end up winning Ballon D'or before Mbappe as well.

All of these are data, not opinion of anyone, it's data and proven, lets see if Ballon D'or may happen but it actually could. Mbappe is a weird player, he scored so much, more than anyone else in history on his debut season, and yet he still ended up losing, dude has this weird losing thing that comes with him everywhere he goes.

I think Osimhen will remain in Istanbul because he likes to play there and Galatasaray wants him with them so much. The problem came with Napoli ambiguous attitudes. They don't want him in the squad and he will not play any game since he is out of Conte plans. Besides, Napoli should pay him a lot, like €24m next season while his release clause should be €75m. From what I understand, any offer above €51m is a win for Napoli! Meanwhile they refused an offer from Galatasaray of €60m so what's going on seriously with them?
Liverpool doesn't seem interested in Osimhen so far, otherwise they would make a move to grab him. The asked amount by Napoli is weird.
The one thing that makes sense for Osimhen is that he is capable of scoring a lot of goals at Turkish league, and he can stay the top goal scorer for plenty of times, and that means he will be loved. So, when you are getting paid what you want to get paid, and you succeed and you are loved, then what else do you really need? That is what he is doing and that is why he accepted this deal.

The reality is simple, we are seeing him do a great job at Galatasaray. And not like he went to Saudi league or mls neither, he is still going to play at UCL this season, one way or another. He can stay at Napoli and that's still UCL team, but at Galatasaray he will be at UCL group stages too. So he is doing alright, make sense to accept this deal.

I am pretty sure United would be getting Douglas Luiz only if they can't finally get the Mbuemo deal done. No idea what took them that long, but they have been dealing with that for nearly a month now I think, which means we are not going to really see them have anything further.

If Douglas Luiz thing is real, 25 million is cheap for them, since they are looking for a 70 million deal with Mbuemo, and that is why I am pretty sure we are going to end up with cheaper version. They just wanted someone who is not as good as the one they already have at premier league, which means Mbuemo is better because he proved himself at premier league already this season. Lets see, I still say neither should be who they are looking for, and they should be looking for someone with a bigger name and proven at high levels.

De Jong does want to stay at Barcelona, and his salary is higher than some other players, making him a burden on the team, especially since he can no longer contribute optimally due to frequent injuries.
Barcelona has been trying to sell De Jong since last season, but he still wants to stay, meaning the team management must respect his contractual obligations.
Overall, Barcelona's players are quite good in all lines and some of the substitutes also have the same quality, so I don't see De Jong having a big impact on the team, it's just a contract issue, so whether Barcelona wants to or not, they have to keep De Jong.
He can stay one more year with such salary, that is it. Next summer, his contract will be over and that is it for him with this salary. Either he will pay for a smaller amount at Barcelona, or he will go to another team and play for a smaller amount yet again. Only possibility of him playing decently would would going to Saudi league, then he could keep making about the same money or maybe a lot more.

However, plenty of people are missing that part of it and they are just assuming he would do alright. I am sure we are going to see Barcelona offer him something, but a lot less than what he is getting right now, could be same for Lewandowski too, those are getting paid a lot ,and maybe it made sense when they were signed, but not anymore so it should be less.

Honestly I'm quite confused about placing a 1x2 bet on this match, on the one hand I'm a Real Madrid fan but on the other hand PSG has the better odds, one safe option is to bet on BTTS with odds of 1.44, but unfortunately that quite small for me and isn't satisfying as this is a semifinal Grin  I think I need to check the lineups first to be more certain about which option to choose.
Odds and match are surely confusing because both teams are on same level with Real Madrid is also having good players but PSG is surely in good depth which allowing them to play much better and aggressive soccer while their last few games give them good confidence.

Real Madrid is having new coach who is doing some experiments which are going to help them in coming season just because of this in last few games things were not favorable for them even they won Mbappé is also having health issues while now few more injuries are hurting their cause for win. For this game having option of live betting is also good because first half will be give better view about how things will be ended even PSG is bookies favourite but Real Madrid masterclass is also always amazing in big events.

Let them do whatever they want to each other, its not going to really end up with that much of a troubled situation at all, it's really just a good thing and there are no downsides. They will keep digging each other further and outing each others mistakes.

Elon DID get richer thanks to him getting all that money from the government and that is not a lie at all, he doesn't have "money", he has debt and he has networth but he doesn't have money himself, sure he is richer than all of us here lol, but for someone who has 300+ billion dollar valuation, I guarantee you that he never had more than a billion dollars in cash for longer than a week, and that means, all of his investments comes from either within the company or from government. Don't get me started on Trump, if I start talking about what's wrong with him, I would have to write a whole book here.

Ok missed that and thank you for clarification. Now two players playing for Manchester City and Roma is definitely fostering progress within the Uzbekistan team as a whole. While two players can't turn them into a World Cup title contender, you could see from Georgia how much impact some top players can have on the team. Mamardaschvili and Mikautadze improved Georgia's game so much that you can see two players can do something, but there are limits.
Exactly, that is the point: these new football nations are growing a lot, only 10 years ago nobody would have thought that a player from Uzbekistan would be paid 40 million euros. Georgia is another great example, back in the days they only Kaladze and a couple of decent strikers like Arveladze and Kobiashvili, now they have a few very good players and Kvaratskhelia, despite his young age, is already by far the greatest player they ever had. The goalkeeper, Mamardashvili, will shortly join Liverpool. This means the football movement is growing a lot in these countries.
Despite having too many controversies and corruption and other problems I am personally feeling FIFA is doing enough for soccer just because of this now in last few years many countries are able to increase their quality and now everyone is ready for having his best in soccer and want to play into FIFA World Cup even now just 48 countries allowed.

Russian stats are also able to bring their best talent in front of world while Russia is still facing sanctions and problems due to their polices even these are nonsense from few countries, but things are working, and they are on back foot due to their aggressive policies. Ukraine facing decline in quality and performance which is also negativity of conflict but Africa and Asia are surely doing good which is big success they needed to be keep consistency and performance on good level which will increase their revenue as well.

I think they will accept Galatasaray's offer, Osimhen has had a very happy season and is very pleased with the interest shown in him in Türkiye. Also, Galatasaray's squad is very interesting, we expect him to want to play here now.
Although he is getting older, he can still play in many quality teams. I think he has the capacity to be in the top 5 teams in the Premier League, Serie A or Bundesliga. Of course, we will all see what decision Napoli will make
Galatasaray may or may not have 75 million, but if they do spend that money, then there will not be any left I am sure, no team has spent more than 20 million in Turkish league so far, which means that 75 million would be not only the highest, but it would be damn near 4 times the price of the next highest ,that is not normal amount of money for that league.

I am sure they can just sell a couple of players, like Sanchez or Sara or even maybe Icardi could be sold to Saudi league or something. But until then, it looks like it would be financially a big trouble for them. It's still Osimhen, so it would be not a bad idea at all, it could be done a lot better and you should be able to actually make some changes on the team because Osimhen is so great and he worths it.

Xavi Simons would be a great option though. Bayern Munich was already interested in him 2 months ago. They should ask for his price. But I wonder how much money they would like to pay for him the most?

As far as I know he doesn't have any release clause now. At least the source below confirms it. But his market value is still 70 million euros. I think Leipzig would never let him go cheap.  Smiley  He is a great talent but quite expensive too.
Considering Xavi Simons is only 22 years old, it would be a smart move for Bayern Munich, however he would also be very expensive. Right now, transfermarket says he is worth 70 million, and most of that is because of his age, not for his talent, which is why I believe it is a great thing and should not be all that complicated at all.

People are approaching this as talent thing for Bayern level, but if Xavi was 29 years old, same talent, then he would be 30-40 million at most. Which is why I believe we are not going to see him stay the same if he goes to Bayern, at 22 years old, if he goes to Bayern, then I am pretty sure we are going to end up with a lot of money with time, and he should be getting much better. We should see him change a lot.

I think this is very interesting news because of course if Rodrygo goes to Al Nassr it will certainly make Al Nassr more popular and of course Al Nassr's strength will certainly increase because Rodrygo is certainly a good midfielder and of course if he is used in Al Nassr of course I think he will fit. Ronaldo really wants Rodrygo and honestly I also hope that what Ronaldo wants can be realized quickly.

but of course there is also news that Rodrygo is currently still not interested in appearing in the SPL because currently if I'm not mistaken Rodrygo still wants to be in Europe. yes of course at this time I predict that it seems that Rodrygo will find it difficult to play in the Saudi League because it will be difficult for Ronaldo's wishes to be achieved if Rodrygo is not interested in joining Al Nassr.

but of course as a football fan I can only surrender and of course I want to watch what happens later.
That would make things a bit more fun again because we would end up with a lot more results for Al Nassr, and they would get a lot more wins. If they can do it, then we could end up with a lot better result without a doubt.

I am sure that we could have some trouble of course, we need to be careful about it, but for the time being we need to arrange this to be something that can be simple enough, and that should be the most important feeling. I am seeing how things are changing, and if that works then we are going to end up with a lot better result. If you can't do it then you can't do it but I think Al Nassr could actually end up with a profit for the long term by getting a title, at least Ronaldo would have one title here.

I don't expect anyone to blame Kompany for not advancing further than the level at which they were disqualified. In fact, to me, Bayern Munich's performances in the Champions League are not that poor, especially when you consider the state of Bayern Munich before Kompany took over the team. In fact, the way Kompany first focused on the domestic league and was able to win the Bundesliga is the best approach. I know the strategy. By doing that, he showed what the squad is capable of. If Kompany had decided to focus on all competitions as much, he might not have achieved the Bundesliga title and might still not have won the Champions League. There's a high chance he would have gone trophyless, and by now, some people would still be blaming him for not winning any trophy.
I do, and have always disliked Kompany decision as well. Why do I blame Kompany for the way they got eliminated? Well it's simple, because at Bundesliga there is no competition for them, who could have won as much as they did, with the amount of money they spend? Some numbers could back that up, and could show you how winning Bundesliga is not an achievement for Kompany.

On year 24-25 season, Bayern Munich players were valued at 953 million euro, nearly a billion, whereas the closest was Leverkusen, at 623 million, a near 330 million difference between these two clubs. When you look at salaries, Bayern spent 274 million per season on salary, whereas Dortmund (the second most) spent 113, and Leverkusen did only 83 million. So winning Bundesliga is nothing when you are that much richer. So at UCL, the moment they faced anyone that was better, they just folded like a lawn chair.

Uzbekistan has hardly played against any teams outside the AFC confederation. So the current rankings doesn't really take in to account their present form. Only when they play against the top teams in tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, their performance and prospects can be accurately measured. But I would like to repeat one thing. Performance in international football seems to have some correlation to demography. Countries with a young population are the ones who are advancing the most now.
They didn't play against outside AFC confed treams for obvious reasons, but that coefficient does somehow try to balance out the difference in strength of all teams. I agree though that these rankings have their flaws, but scrolling through their game history reveals that they are not losing games with overwhelming results against them. The last relevant game against Australia for example, it ended 1-1 in early 2024 at the Asia Cup.

But if anything, they would only play against top teams in the group stage of a World Cup and now last month they qualified for the WC 2026 for the first time ever. I think this means something, but it has to be noted that the WC was extended I think and more teams are able to participate. I don't know if it was for their improved performance, or for the expanded field of participants that they were now able to make it.
I agree with you on few points still it's going to be interesting Uzbekistan is now one of the good sides in Asian region and things are clearly favouring them for having good results in future because they are having good skills and talented players.

Recently few players joined big clubs which give them good boost still need them to have good performance against top teams in the future, but their recent performance is not bad at all currently they are ranked 66th in FIFA rankings, but I am sure this is going to be improved with they are having strong structure which will help their youngsters for having good results. Difference of quality is huge but still with quality and consistent performance few teams can do much better which will give them confidence for big events like FIFA World Cup in the future.

This is like a surprise because previously Arsenal turned to other players because Sporting expected a big value for the player's transfer, but in the last few days we often see the media starting to be optimistic that Gyökeres will play for Arsenal and I am also a little bit confident that Gyökeres' transfer will go smoothly.
Arsenal are starting to show a team that is serious about building strength and they are also willing to buy players at quite fantastic prices and it seems that this is much different before Arteta became coach.

Three seasons in a row failing to win the Premier League made Arsenal start trying something different and this time Arsenal are much more serious about fixing the team so that they are much stronger next season.
I am sure Gyokeres would make a lot of difference for Arsenal. And I love it when players wants to go to a team, shows that they really want to play there. He has talked about letting go of his salary and paying some himself and what not, to make this happen. This dude is willing to pay out of pocket, his own, to make sure that he can leave.

Sporting making a big mistake, he could just fake injury all year if he wants to, not get paid if they don't want to pay and make it a legal thing, dude is literally willing to go free next time his contract is up, and force them to take the deal. It would get very ugly if they end up not selling him. They need to sit down, and figure out what the max they can get ,and be ok with letting him go.

For now, Munich is not in a rush to find a replacement and some sources say Thomas Muller's contract will be extended to take over Musiala role, this decision will be taken at least until the middle of the season if all is well then Munich will only focus on Musiala recovery on the other hand, if Muller is unable to take over, it is possible that new players will be brought in. Yeah, it is a shame that this incident has hampered Munich plans for next season and Jamal Musiala has a risk to his career.

If Bayern Munich insists on finding a new player for the AM position, who would be the right player? I searched the list of players on transfermarkt and found some names: Xavi Simons (Leipzig) Oihan Sancet (Athletic) and Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) assuming these clubs need money then it is possible they will let go.
They may not be in rush for it, but Musiala, even though he is great, keeps getting injured. Every season he misses 10+ games, and this season he will miss even more because of the grotesque injury. I am suspecting that they are not going to do that much, it is going to be a bit weird for them to keep him if he keeps being this much injured all the time. Players who are so injury prone ends up getting sent away eventually, no matter how great you are, you are not going to keep staying at a big club.

This means we are going to see Musiala eventually sold, but that will be an issue too because when he plays he is one of the best, but he is an injury risk, so how much does he really worth? When he plays, he is 100+ million worth, but he doesn't play all games. So, it's a big question.
