Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread

This is a qoute from a poster form the NEM vs NXT thread.

One of the problems NEM is going to have is that it's going to be sandwiched in between NXT and Etherium when it launches.

NXT and Etherium are in some ways complimentary in the sense that NXT has "out of the box" features that get up and running quickly whereas Etherium will have a rich "Javascript for Blockchains" type language which will be used for advanced contract based transactions.

By that time, NXT might just have enough traction to carve itself a market presence alongside all the hype and bluster that Etherium will bring. NEM will get launched into the shadow of Etherium - a massivly more advanced technology than anything that has gone before and NXT which will have had nearly a year's worth of smoothing out bugs, gaining brand recognition and capturing new business (hopefully).

Is Etherium really as revolutionary as this guy makes it out to be ? Can some of the more knowledgeable posters please enlighten me on how they are so much better than both NXT & NEM potentially ( since Etherium is yet to be released)

nope... nxt will be able to do everything ethereum can and maybe more... nxt will use automated transactions, where as all ethereum transactions will be turing complete...

because nxt will use automated transactions aswell as regular ones.. it can pick and chose which tx type is right for the task in hand.. minimizing the amount of data needed for certain transactions

ALL of ethereum transactions will be turing complete.. meaning all transactions will have a higher byte size.. regular(like just sending ether to someone) transactions dont need turing complete.. therefore using more bytes for the transaction then necessary.

im not sure of the full pros/cons of being fully turing complete compared to only select transactions being turing complete but im nearly certain it puts ethereum on the back foot.

someone asked before in this thread about whether NEM will be turing complete and the devs reply was basically that nem wont use automated transactions but he said they will be able to do all the same stuff.. cant remember the term he used but i was happy with his answer... it will be a while before automated transactions are implemented in nxt and ethereum wont launch til Q4 of 2104 so in saying this if NEM launches with this feature it will actually be ahead of NXT and ethereum in terms of turing complete/automated transactions..

there is also ALLOT of hype around ethereum and very high expectations.. i think allot of people think that ethereum will have "many" features that other 2nd gen coins dont have and as far as i know thats simply wrong.

iv also herd many times that they have backing from a large bank... which is a strength and weakness at the same time.

Well of course I am part of the elite, I always been. What is new is that everyone can be part of it. Bitcoin is open to everyone.
It doesn't matter your background and education. Anyone can learn. Information is free and transparent.
It doesn't matter how much you invest in, everyone can invest and make a profit.

"Bitcoin is open to everyone"

Nope, its not. Well maybe for a few entitled kids who got everything from their parents it is. But for the majority of the world's population it isn't. The majority of the world population doesn't have a computer, even less people have internet, and most people don't have any money to buy bitcoins with, because they use all their money for food and still they starve.

I always get a little angry, if I see entitled kids from rich parents claiming everything is for free. The world doesn't work like that. Try to look beyond the little box you live in, pal.

second that.. im in college and working 40 hours paying a 8k euro loan and 20k mortgage (neither are my debts,,, im 22) and i struggle to afford buyin any coins.. i havnt gone out in 4 months since i heard about crypto (not even for xmas) cos bar food, bills and other necessities i am putting everything i can into crypto in the hope that in 2-3-4-5 years.. my family wont be broke as shit like it has bin my hole life! i genuinely feel sorry for any one who can see the potential and the money that can be made but just cannot afford to put money in.. everyday things will always come first before investment.. i think the only way crypto will help people in 3rd world countries is by shielding them from inflationary currencies and by allowing family members to send money home with much lower fees but that will only happen once they have access to buy-send-sell coins.. i live in ireland and i have no way of cashing out and i dont see any way in the fore see-able future.. im not sending passport details and address details and all sorts to 3rd party exchanges/processors. fuck that! so i dont see how any one in a worse situation could? (yes i know theres far more people in allot worse situations)...

ps. i cant fucking stand those rich kids that think they deserve everything.. i also have little respect for any one who claims to be a "self-made millionaire" or successful business man/women when if you look into their back ground..  they come from wealthy families who could give them thousands to start out.. if you didnt earn every penny yourself, say so and stop acting like you worked your ass of to earn you first 1k,10k,100k... that first 10/20k is the hardest part... lets see them start with minimum wage jobs payin rent and bills and food and see how well they do.. dont claim to be self made if some one built the fucking ladder for you and all you had to do was climb it.. massive respect to anyone who came from a hard background and made something of themselves!

sorry.. rant over lol

You belong to the wealthy elite as long as the bitcoin price stays at these levels but have you considered the fact that the system has techinical problems and therefore cannot be used for currency.

That's a strange statement, since I've been using as currency for four years.

Based on the slowness of transaction.
It can be used for transactions that are rare (such as buying lambo or a castle in Estonia), but not for everyday purchases such as cup of coffee/tea and bag of food etc. You see, it is too slow for merchants (the 1st confirmation takes 10 minutes).
WorldCoin takes 30 seconds. The transaction is fully confirmed within 1 minute.

30 seconds or 1 minute is still way too long for a coffee or any other everyday purchase

nxt/nem will be instantaneous

i was thinking.. the learning curve involved with nxt and crypto in general is very steep and allot of people give up fairly fast because they wont put money into something they dont understand and if they dont understand it how can they trust it.. i think there needs to be some sort of live help messaging/skype chat line to help people that are interested but struggle to get a grasp of it...

when you want mass addoption you need 3 things..

1. how do you get people in the front door? marketing.. and lots of it!

2. how you get them to reach the "ah ha" moment as fast as possible?

i think all the tutorials and videos and texts that have been written are still to "techy" for regular joe soaps that still dont know mainstream media is corrupt
i think it needs to be dumbed down so much your seven year old child could teach himself in a 1 min what it is and how to use it and what to use it for
trying to explain what a block chain is to joe soap is like trying make a cat swim..

3. how do you deliver core product value as often as possible?

nxt does this but people just dont know it yet. they need the 1st 2 steps down and when they do they will see this straight away! more so when fees are lowered (if they are lowered), there is one video on nxt that is very good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsKPyq_zL5g

i think this video should be one the home page of the new nxt.org site.. if that goes ahead!

and mayby a step by step on how to buy nxt.. i mean every click.. downloading the wallet. which exchange to buy bitcoin from.. which exch to buy nxt from how to put bitcoin on the exchange, how to place an order and how to withdraw the nxt to your wallet.. it really does need to be that in depth.. otherwise ppl get lost and give up. .you may laugh but people are that dumb!  happened to a friend of mine.. i told him all the sites.. he couldnt work it out in 20 -30 mins so he gave up... hes not techy what so ever.. i mean doesnt know ctrl+c is copy.. or what the tab button does...

if you want mass adoption these people need to "get it" straight away...

I think we now have bigger ambitions then just playing second fiddle to nxt Grin. Jaguar is writing a new code from scratch so that label as nxt silver is no longer applicable Wink

the code is being written from scratch? will he not be taking chunks of code from nxt? there for it is based on nxt just modified!

do you know what he is changing?

is there any technical thread for nem?
