Wallet.dat question
by
bitwatch
on 02/07/2011, 15:23:46 UTC

OK, I am trying to create a secure wallet.dat file.  So I am running Ubuntu and then I launch the bit client.  (Last night I managed to download all the current blocks chain ~134,000).  So back to the present I am now trying to make a secure wallet via Ubuntu b/c it is RAM.  So, question is where the hell is the wallet.dat file that I need to copy? Can I change it to anything I want or must I accept whatever IP address and wallet.dat file the client generates randomly?

Once I do this I will be mining via Windows.  So next time I launch the bit client I will cut and paste the random IP address bar correct?  And what about the wallet.dat file from this Windows/client launch? Just ignore it?

Thanks in advance

Garrett,

Many thanks. Yes it works and I managed to download the original block chain.  But I had only two connections.  I set my router to 8330 and I also set the client to 8329.  Did not seem to help much.  If I start mining I will need more connctions>!!!

Thank you.

PS: Question for the newbie monkey mind here please.  I am having trouble locating the wallet.dat file.  Once I do generate an "offline" secure address and wallet.dat file I will need to copy it securely as many others have already posted.  Monkey Mind Question is if I dont delete that string particular string out of the file (after I copy it securely to someplace else) and then I start mining wont others be able to "see" or hack it if I leave it in the data directory?

Anybody know how to fix this error message?

It happens right as I try to run the client which is just after downloading it.  I have already tried to uninstall it and shutdown a couple of times.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

I am not a programmer or familiar with code.  Hell, I have trouble downloading the correct drivers...
What I do have is time and vision to be a part of something good like bitcoin.

Can anyone please help me download and set up the appropriate software for BTC?

I will need to be able to talk over the phone with you.  I can pay pal you or whatever you like for your time when we are done.

Thank you.

Brock has answered emails but only to say that they have a "huge backlog" due to demand of the 6990.  Essentially if you order today or whenever, you get put on a list and must wait.  But you wont get in line until you first pay/order a rig.  The only telephone number they provide is to the parent (supplier) company ZAreason.  First come first sever.  There needs to be big price correction in BTC or perhaps better video cards hitting market to open up this bottleneck at the retail level.  It will happen but will take time.

Litt,

Its OK really.  What you are feeling is normal for anyone who speculates and invests.  Remember evrything is a cycle.  Don't become a perma BTC bull.  Cycles up and down.  Adjustsments in strategy are part of the fun or aggravation depending on viewpoint.  You are fine.

According to James G. Rickards http://www.omnisinc.com/directors.php  obfuscation is a skill set long practiced by the Fed.  QE2 has ended. OK, so what?...But QE3 need NOT be officially announced to begin since there is so much funny money credit out there now from previous monetizations attempts that it is in a perpetual QE momentum cycle.  So,  QE3, QE4, QE5, are already guaranteed.  INFLATION express.

Question, does this equal a continued BTC inflation express?

For BTC to "go big" round the world perhaps if a large player accepted a basket of commodities not equally tied to each other but loosely on an open market.  For example:   oil, gold, and BTC basket of goods. in exchange for whatever else the counter party is willing to accept in return as payment.  Military equipment, water purification, corn  etc...

You bought "junk" silver in 2005 then sold it at beginning of May and rolled it over into BTC witin the last 4 weeks?  Who are you reading/following? Martin Armstrong?  Pass me some of that mojo hombre.

Attacks on BTC will have to coordinated by the current powers.  Not sure, but the EU is barely able to move quickly and cohesively with their central bank.  The US is another story.  Monopoly comes to mind.

Potential gains BTC vs Silver...

(IMO Silver is the better choice out of the precious metals because of its price, dual usage as a PM and industrial, and lastly growth potential compared to palladium, gold, platinum).

Which is the better speculative and which is the better investment?  Silver vs  BTC?

IMO has anybody ever heard of SILVER?!  Umm, talk about its growth potential compared to others as a commodity.

BTC is a "fun" play but I wont put my 401K into it.  Just enough to get an ulcer though.
