Re: Central Banks can hold up to 2% of their reserves in BTC since Jan 1st, 2025
by

It's already been almost a month since The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) decision that Central Banks can hold up to 2% came into effect under their "Prudential treatment of cryptoasset exposures".

BIS initially was planning for a 1%, but when Central Banks asked for 5%, they proposed a 2% as a compromise.

A bank’s total exposure to Group 2 cryptoassets must not exceed 2% of the bank’s Tier 1 capital and should generally be lower than 1%.

Given that Central Banks are already looking into this, let's examine the impact this could have.

Let's be conservative and assume we continue with the proposed 2%, and not the 5% that banks want.

Banks have about $188T:

The value of bank assets worldwide increased gradually between 2002 and 2023, despite some fluctuation. In 2023, global bank assets amounted to more than 188 trillion U.S. dollars, up from 183.2 trillion U.S. dollars a year earlier.

At 2%, this represents $3.76T in Bitcoin. For comparison, the current market cap of Bitcoin is $2.05T.

This, even at 2%, is a game changer for Bitcoin.

If 10% of central banks buy to have 1% of their reserve in btc it's 20 times less needed, maybe not all in btc.

If BTC goes up x3 it's 60times less btc to buy than your calculation

Europe is complicated for business because they're going to "help you" but in parallel an other agency that tax you and regulate you may go too far

by

War = bitcoin goes down

Huge inflation = bitcoin goes up

Wars are often paid by monetary creation = inflation so a war could help the nominal price of bitcoin to go up but it will unlikely be the first consequence in my opinion.

Someone was able to recover what was lost? BTC

Yes, ppl recovered their funds and put them on FTX (true story).

 Cheesy

For reference :

Bitcoin Figures:
Some reports have noted that, out of the roughly 650,000 BTC in creditor claims, the trustee has recovered on the order of 140,000–150,000 BTC. In simple terms, that would be around a 20–23% recovery rate in Bitcoin terms. However, this figure represents the amount recovered from the hacked wallet(s) and not the final payout value.

Hopefully Bitcoin went up since then.

Withdrawal Halted: February 7, 2014
Bitcoin Price: Approximately $620 on that date
Distribution Year: 2023?
Price Basis: Bitcoin's price in 2023 has varied, roughly ranging from around $16,000 at the start of the year to near $30,000 mid-year. 25 to 50 times higher so 5 to 10 times more than lost in USD

Re: What are the safe ways to find good projects?
by
boumalo
on 17/02/2025, 04:33:52 UTC
There is no clear defined way on how to find projects that are trust worthy. With Alts there is always risk associated. There are many projects launched with catchy websites, stunning whitepapers but the price of token never went up. Just look at recent example of what TRUMP coin did to investors, it was launched, went up for 2 days and falling down since that. The best we can do with alts is to invest the money and pull out as soon as you are getting good profit, don't greed or wait for long term. There are many examples where an Alt went high but people didn't sold with greed of more profit and once the price fell down it never went up again.

Having known trusted crypto experts that are public about launching the project is a good sign.

Low amount of pre-minted tokens.

Then it's about having faces that seem trustworthy even if they were not known before hand.

Businesses, hard assets, comodities and real estate protect against inflation but have a high risk of regulaltion and low liquidity, you can't move the asset easily from a jurisdiction to an other.

Gold and Bitcoin are good vehicule to keep liquid value if the official currencies become restrict, both the digital and the cash form of it.

The payout is near.

Defunct crypto exchange Mt Gox sent nearly 47,229 BTC to another address late Thursday. 3,141,563,389 USD at current price.

The Japanese trustee acting on behalf of Mt. Gox, Nobuaki Kobayashi, holds approximately 142,000 bitcoin, 9,4B USD at current price.

The risks are not the same in Dubai and Europe.
Business & regulation risks are higher in Europe, political risks are very different but there in both regions.
You get to keep much more of what you make in Dubai and the security is much better than the average in Europe

However, it appears that she has done her best in giving her son the shortest prison sentence.
I wouldn't call 25 years the shortest sentence possible as I read that his lawyers asked for like 6-7 years. Its definitely not enough considering what he has done, but 25 years is no joke either.

They need to create a show that the American justice system works.
Well, it probably works better than in vast majority of other countries. If that happened in Croatia (and in many other countries), trial would drag on for many years and in the end he woiuld get few years in the lowest possible security prison where he would go out every weekend.

He prob could have gotten a deal for 15 years when he was still in the Bahamas.
