Re: MEGA CHALLENGE: Use PGP and win up to 1 bitcoin

This sounds like a scam to me.

You are basically asking people to give you BTC, trusting that you will actually hold a drawing to give people .1 BTC as part of the contest.
I am also missing the point here. Why do you need 10 Bitcoins to make it public domain. Is that a theoretical figure you placed, on what you would have earned, if you sold the book?

Rather put the book out there and try to sell it or get donations, the last option, being your last resort or is this already your last resort?

Well anyways, I will consider it, but I do not promise to do it.. Let's see how it goes.  Wink
I've worked a lot to make this book because I think cryptography is very important but GnuPG (like most free software projects) lacks decent documentation, so I decided to write a guide to help others. My point is: I want to make money with the book AND help the free software community, so to balance things out while I don't raise 10 bitcoins the book is available under a restrictive sharing license (Creative Commons BY-NC-ND), anyone can share it but I hold the copyright. After I raise 10 bitcoins I will release it to the public domain, this way anyone can own it and do whatever they want with it. To "accelerate" things I am holding a contest and giving 10% of my profits to the participants, thus the contest.

I don't have BTC to support you, however I must say this book looks promising and I will definitely read it.
Good luck on your goal anyway!
Thanks, you can also help spreading it to others. Good reading.

oh ok.
You would probably make more BTC if you just ask for 0.01 if people like it.
Adding the contest makes  it sound dodgy. I know you don't want it to... its just my opinion.. perhaps others will not agree with me.
Maybe, I think my text needs some clarification. By the way the reason why I am raising 10 bitcoins is to release the book to the public domain.

I clicked on the goldenkeys.com link, their HTTPS cert expired nearly 2 weeks ago. Am I being MITM'd?
The correct link is goldenkeys.org, it is working now. I am not using HTTPS.

So if I understand.. once 100 people send 0.01 and you have 1.0 BTC you will then send 0.1 to 10 people, thus leaving you with 0 BTC ?
No, once 100 people send me 0.01 and I have 1.0 BTC I will draw 0.1 among those 100 and give 0.1 to one single winner. I will use random.org for that.

is that pretty much it ?

I suppose if it is a decent book no reason why people should not send you 0.01..  Just seems odd you will then give it all away?
Assuming you actually send the 0.1 this seems like a standard raffle  where you can win 10X the deposit amount?
Actually I am raising 10 bitcoins and giving 10% of that (1 bitcoin) to the supporters. 1 out of 100 people will win 0.1 bitcoin.

I have not downloaded it or had a look but  sounds like a decent book if it covers PGP and basic security.
Thanks. Check it out, you'll like it.

Next time you should get an agreement with him first, not just blindly rush into correcting the book
Yeah, he doesn't understand that.

And probaby took my corrections too, and wont pay me. Typical scammer, the book he is selling for a 'low fee' isnt anything other than common words about cryptography that he wants to make a quick buck from, by selling to newbies
Dude, what's your problem? I did not make any agreement with you, I did not even PM you! You start doing a job without hearing a word from me, claim you are responsible for it, do it desperately, do it incomplete, deliver a poor result, and now you come here to say I'm a scammer because I was supposed to pay you? I don't owe you anything! I never did business with you!

If you had checked my website you would see that the mistakes are still there and I did not take your corrections. But I will of course, and without paying you, since you already made them public instead of keeping them to yourself and talking to me first. Thanks for that.

If you think my book sucks and doesn't worth what I'm asking for that's your problem.

Quote from: howzar
Shouldve known better, but ive left him negative feedback until he pays out.

MODS:

Please add a negative trust rating too until resolved.
There's nothing to be resolved between us. You must resolve something with yourself, you are the scammer trying to rip me off and speaking ill of me.

Quote from: howzar
This is the second time he asks for something and doesnt pay out.
When I asked for a signature they posted many but I cancelled the contest because I did not like and use any of them. Now regarding this job I will pay who is able do to it all, not you.

Quote from: howzar
Now he is also asking for a 1 btc loan...
Yes, anyone interested in investing 1 BTC in a business partnership and receive 3 BTC back can check this thread.

According to the book license, you are not allowed to sell it.  You can only give it away.

You didn't bother to read the first pages of your "own" book?   Roll Eyes
I think the NonCommercial clause applies to others, not to the copyright holder. And even then they can sell it if they get permission from the copyright holder. See what I've found here:

CC's NonCommercial (NC) licenses allow rights holders to maximize distribution while maintaining control of the commercialization of their works. If you want to reserve the right to commercialize your work, you may do this by choosing a license with the NC condition. If someone else wants to use your work commercially and you have applied an NC license to your work, they must first get your permission. As the rights holder, you may still sell your own work commercially.

I did not see the tabs at the top
The tabs are very clear, so far you seem to be the only one who did not see it.

Quote from: howzar
as the first page is around 5000 words alone (A sign of a bad site design maybe, not trying to be harsh, just recommending it to change as I didnt even see it)
The first page is around 2200 words. 5000 pages are all 6 pages combined, you didn't even check it.

Quote from: howzar
Ive submitted ALL mistakes so you cant just try to pick someone else.
Really? You've submitted ALL mistakes? So I can't pick someone else? Why? Because there are no more mistakes left? Allright then, if no one else here points to 10 additional mistakes on grammar, punctuation and writing style that need to be corrected, in all 6 pages, then I'll be glad that you did an amazing job and I'll pay you the bitcoins.

Quote from: howzar
This is just like your signature design contest, you never picked someone although 10+ entries were made. Here 1 entry has been made with ALL informtion needed and still you say no.
I didn't pick anyone because I didn't like any, why should I pay for something I didn't like and didn't use?

Quote from: howzar
Looks like he doesn't want to pay me.
Quote from: howzar
I've written all the mistakes as needed.
It's all been said.

@howzar

First you question if I will honor my word, then immediately without an answer you commit to doing. You hurry up to post corrections here and you protest when other members show interest in the work, alleging that they shouldn't because you are already doing it, but in fact you were not even chosen.

Dude, that is very unprofessional. Not to say that you only posted corrections for the first page, I'm pretty sure that are mistakes in all other pages as well.

There is a second page?! I swear I did not see that... Im on it
Of course you did not see it, you're desperate to do it as fast as possible. And you're doing it again, I did not choose anyone and you already commited to doing it. You don't have to hurry up, if I want your work I'll let you know!

0.05 BTC to proofread my website
by

on 10/04/2014, 09:33:11 UTC
Hello, I am paying 0.05 BTC to proofread my website: https://www.goldenkeys.org

It has about 5000 words and it includes all the pages (but not the book).

I'm looking preferably for native English speakers with good grammar and punctuation. Your previous posts must reflect that.

PM me if you are interested.

Thanks.

And how can you guarantee that?
I can't guarantee that because I have no way to do that but I've been contacting groups who've shown interest in doing business with me and can refer thousands of potential buyers in exchange for a 50% commission, as stated in the website.

Quote from: Light
If you are so sure I don't see why you can't pony up some collateral.
I don't give any collateral because I don't have any to give.

Quote from: Light
Not to mention what happens if you book earns squat - how are you going to be able to pay back the loan if at all?
I've been working in this project for months and now it's ready to be launched. I'm confident it can make far more than enough to pay the initial invesment, the return on investment and still make profit. The book worths the price being asked (0.01 BTC each copy) and the quality is very good, so all it needs to sell is left to marketing. Since every referral partner will receive 50% comission then to cover the initial 1 BTC investment it's necessary to sell 200 copies, and 600 copies to cover the proposed ROI. I believe this is achievable.

Now what if for whatever reason the book doesn't sell enough to break even? Well in this case then neither of us gets paid, that's it, especially me, because the investor at least will automatically receive whatever the book makes up to 3 BTC.

I understand your concern about getting scammed, but let's make something clear: I'm not looking for a loan but for a business partner willing to invest 1 BTC. As with any investment there is always a risk, this one is no different. Now if you want to make 3 BTC without the risk of losing a single satoshi then there is an opportunity for you: you adapt the code to suit the website's needs and I pay you 3 BTC for that in the model described previously. Of course it requires you to know PHP, Python and MySQL, but at least it's risk free.

If you are really interested in participating contact me so we can discuss more details.

how do you ensure your book will sell well enough to return even 1 btc?
I don't ensure because I can't ensure but the book will sell much more than 1 BTC. The lender won't lose a satoshi. On the contrary, he will make 3 times more.

OPPORTUNITY: Invest 1 BTC - Receive 3 BTC

Hello, I am looking for an investor to form a business partnership. The business is to sell this book. The sales website is almost finished and for sales to start it needs a custom payment system based on this code.

I've talked to the developer and he agreed to adapt the code for a 1 BTC upfront (currently around $450). This is where the requested invesment is for.

You will receive 3 BTC for your investment. Once the website is online and sales are running, which is expected to happen in the next 7 days, the first 3 BTC in sales are yours and they are automatically forwarded to your bitcoin address. This ensures you get paid first.

Since this is a business partnership there is no collateral.

If you're interested please contact me for more information.

Thanks.

UPDATE: This is the website: https://www.goldenkeys.org

It just needs some small adjustments (such as making it work with IE) and proof reading to correct some grammar mistakes, but the final version will be done in the next days.

RESULT

NOTE: I made a mistake while counting the participants and contraty to what I had mentioned previously the last 02 participants (Coef and oomi0010) are not elligible to participate because they are the 101st and 102nd respectively. Sorry.

Below are two lists: the first list contains the participants in the order they entered, and the second list contains the results I got from Random.org. The first member of the second list is the winner.

The list was randomized just once.
