gambling vs doomscrolling

⭐ Merited by internetional (4)
Doomscrolling or doomsurfing is the act of spending an excessive amount of time reading large quantities of user-generated content or news, particularly negative news, on the web and social media

basically doomscrolling is aimlessly scrollig through social media without any real intentions. being on social media also generates dopamine which is the same happy hormone that gambling can give you. we both doomscroll or gamble when we are bored. what do you think is worse, gambling or doomscrolling?

is it healthy to engage in these two activities excessively?

Re: Casino Market Breakdown....
by

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words...

...

This is something worth discussing. The dominance of Stake casino over all others... And I find it quite interesting that all of these casinos in the top 15 have an ANN theme here on the forum, and some of them have/had a signature campaign... some of them long-term ones. Among all other promotions...
i am actually not that surprised with how this ranking went because i know that stake really holds a significant portion of dominance over not only this forum but a lot of social media platforms as well and roobet has always had a widespread presence in the forum but what i am most surprised about is duelbits being low on the rankings i expected them to be w little higher up

Re: What if Bitcoin block rewards suddenly stopped tomorrow?
by

Without mining rewards, would miners keep the network alive with just transaction fees, or would Bitcoin collapse?
theoretically yes if the demand for bitcoin remains and there’s a lot of transactions waiting then yes miners will still be profitable just from transaction fees alone and if miners are happy well then the security remains strong

Re: Am I a bad father for letting my daughter gamble?
by

Well, you should not have allowed her to be exposed to gambling at such a young age even though there's a chance that she might end up discovering it by herself when she's older but this is better because she would have the mental capacity to handle the pressure that comes with gambling. You can't change what has already happened but you can start guiding her so she won't make mistakes as she gets older
It's always my opinion that parents look should do everything they can to look after their children and prevent them from getting involved in any thing or activity that they are not yet qualified to participate in as children who are underaged.
Underage simply means that the child's brain or mental faculty isn't yet well developed enough to handle the who stress that goes with gambling, but in the case of the op, the deed has already been done and only thing he can do now is just (exactly as you have said) start guiding the child and talking to her always about the dangers of excessive gambling or gambling too much.

If you understand how gene works you will know that there are things that parents cannot stop in their offspring. Moreover, the father said he started gambling at a very tender age, imagine someone who started gambling at the age of 10 years and according to what he narrated he is successful in his gambling which he used to start up a business. The daughter must have also gotten the knowledge that her father is a successful gambler and grew up with the mentality that she can also become a successful gambler as well. Underage gambling is very bad and should be kicked against but what I just saw here is pure gene and it cannot be controlled so the only duty of the parents is just to advice and guide such person so that they don't go astray.
you inherit color of eyes, skin, color of hair, and others i have never heard of the gambling gene i don’t know if it’s passed on but one thing’s for sure she was able to watch her father gamble growing up and that is how she probably
learned

Re: Gambling as a way to recover the economy, effective or not?
by
btc78
on 26/08/2025, 22:57:05 UTC
Effective or not, it will be depending on how the government manage it because to make gambling as a source of income for the government, it requires good management.
In general, gambling may give income from various things such as tax, license, tourisms, and some other things.
It means that if a government can manage it well, gambling can be an effective way to recover the economy of a country.

Of course, governments play a crucial role in regulating gambling establishments in their cities, ensuring they are profitable and generate revenue that can boost the economy without corruption. Gambling is a lucrative business, and anything can happen.
Gambling can generate revenue from tourism and taxes, as well as create jobs for local communities, opening businesses, and so on, which can boost the economy not only for the government but also for the local community.
all these are ignored because of fear or risk of getting addicted and putting in danger individual economic or financial state

do the citizens just really lack some sense of discipline? i think the things you have mentioned is worth accepting gambling into a country but governments seem to think otherwise

Re: Do you believe in momentum when betting on games?
by
btc78
on 17/08/2025, 02:07:37 UTC
I don't bet once they are live, I will place the bets prior to the game and even before a day and then just let it be.
a lot of the people also do this and besides i think a lot of sites have restrictions that you only can bet before the match ends so that their system doesn’t get abused
Quote
And the team looking to give a comeback can be real but for a bettor it can be deceiving and create confusion like which team should I bet or if you bet already on the favorite but the other team is making the comeback then you will be tempted to make another bet on different platform to nullify the loss of previous bets and so on. That is why it's better to keep it simple and just enjoy the intense game moments rather than switching bets. Cheesy
if the other team is clearly the favorite, the team might be a lot more motivated and appear as if they’re finally gonna win but sometimes they still lose despite a very good game

Re: Who is to blame for this situation?
by
btc78
on 17/08/2025, 01:50:33 UTC
I understand that most likely many will say that I am to blame for this situation, but shouldn't an online casino stop accepting bets if it sees that the "gears of the game" are not spinning as they should? After all, this is a game for real money of the gambler.
The casino has no knowledge of the type of device users use though they know if it’s mobile or desktop but they do not know how well your devices perform hence they are not in any way to be blamed because probably the system is programmed to or you some how might have set your gears to automatically restake for the next game hence your device hanging will only display in your views not in theirs so the casino is functioning as it should while you on the other end is suffering for your device incapability.
So for every reason casino has nothing to do with this.
they probably can detect how well a device can perform whether the device can actually accommodate for the power needed to run the platform but that’s probably it because when we download apps or open websites they usually say if the device can’t open or use the said application but sometimes the device can only give enough power to open the application but not to effectively use it

if the website is the one lagging then it’s their fault but if it’s your device then it’s no longer their responsibility

Re: Do you track your gambling activity via tools?
by
btc78
on 13/08/2025, 00:42:18 UTC
I don't track my gambling activities either, because I don't gamble that much... I mostly visit sports betting sites unless I feel like having some fun outside of sports betting.
You can find everything you need to monitor your gambling on the site itself, unless you want to track extra details like the time you spend on them. I'm not sure, but there should be some external tools to do that, or you could simply create one (if you have the knowledge) to track the time you spend on a specific URL.
well there is screentime in apple isn’t there? it can track the time you spend on specific websites it also works on apps

but maybe there are other softwares to use if you are not an apple user and yeah if you are gambling so little time you might not want to monitor yourself but it can still be helpful you might be surprised by how much time you actually spend

Re: How are you preparing for the upcoming football season
by
btc78
on 10/08/2025, 22:59:48 UTC
It is more important to get prepared mentally though. I am watching the news all the time to learn which team is doing what. New coach or maybe new players? I need to know about these developments because they affect the way I make bets. I don’t know if I need any other preparations I think that’s all I do before the next season starts.
there will be a lot of news surrounding the teams and players this time there will also be new narratives to look forward to so being updated with this kind of things can be considered enough preparation already

aside from that you probably don’t need to keep in shape to watch lol that’s the athlete’s job

Re: What Would Happen If Bitcoin ?Disappeared Tomorrow
by
btc78
on 10/08/2025, 22:40:35 UTC
I know it sounds like an impossible question but just imagine for a moment if Bitcoin suddenly stopped existing What would happen to the markets the people who invested their savings and the businesses built around it Would another cryptocurrency quickly take its place or would the whole idea of decentralized money lose trust
you did say it was impossible so almost no point in thinking about this really

it’s hard to think of the consequences of something happening when it’s so hard to understand what made it happen in the first place
Quote
Thinking about this makes me realize how much Bitcoin has become a part of our financial world and how many people depend on it now I am curious what you all think Would the world adapt quickly or would it cause a major shock to the global economy
of course it would cause a shock in the economy

individuals and entitites would be devastated and the stock market will most likely crash. like i said it’s hard to figure out the rest since there’s a real reason for the disappearance.

Re: The Philippines supposedly got a 1% tariff discount, is that really a victory?
by
btc78
on 28/07/2025, 15:34:02 UTC
This has been circulating online, and many Filipinos don’t seem impressed with the news. Before the president's visit, the tariff was 20%, and now it's 19%. They're calling it a “significant win,” but for real - is it?

we impose lower tariffs (or even none at all) on U.S. products entering the country. so what exactly are we celebrating here?

Feels like we’re being taken for a ride, hyping up something that barely scratches the surface.
Almost like clapping for a clown just because he managed to entertain us so well.
this is almost a laughing matter

people are really celebrating the bare minimum do they? i think that this is just a way to save the president's image he doesn't seem to be doing well in his term and he has not made any of his promises true there has not been significant improvements in the country so i do not think that this is something worth celebrating over for

Re: Is it wrong to take a temporary break from gambling?
by
btc78
on 26/07/2025, 23:53:48 UTC
why would it be ever wrong to take a break? no one’s gonna police you (aside from the casino) if you are taking a break every once in a while

it will not be such a bad thing in fact it may even be what’s more ideal because you get to pause your spendings and gather your wits

I am not up to date to the lastest news on the United States policies on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, though. The last thing I remember to have read had something to do with Trump saying Stablecoins are positive for the handling of money and access to liquidity in the general, so I assumed lawmakers in the Republican party were going to push to turn stablecoin into the new standard, but I am not sure if what I read was real of a fakes news.
last i heard a bill was passed and it seems like a positive news for bitcoin so we should expect more from the us as they continue to follow their plans of being crypto capital of the world

Re: Pertaining to leadership roles, do family financial background have much effect?
by

on 20/07/2025, 23:24:45 UTC
Being born and raised from a wealthy family is a great privilege. Opportunities are unlimited, so expect that you will gain an edge over the others. However, if we talk about success here, being wealthy does not guarantee you will be successful on your leadership.
some kids who grew up wealthy may even fail at actual real life tasks because they lacked skills because they never had to learn they were spoon fed every single thing compared to kids who grew up poor they learned how to be independent and resourceful at a young age

Currently, person with highest amount of bitcoin in the world is Satoshi Nakamoto and he is the 12th richest man in the world. Can his number one spot be taken by some other person anytime soon ? Who can be that person to replace Satoshi ? Elon Musk ?
why would elon musk replace the 12th richest man when he is already the richest man? and satoshi may not buy any more bitcoins but since bitcoin's value keeps increasing satoshi will get richer and richer so this highlights the importance of holding

In my opinion, those Facebook pages won't be taken down that easily by our government, especially if they have around 9 million followers unless the violation is really serious.
i don't think it's the facebook pages that they want to delete but only the posts that contain the illegal casinos. they are only promoters after all and not the actual owners of the illegal casino so they should not be in too much trouble if they just take down the promotional posts.

Re: Are online Casinos more rigged than physical Casinos like in Las Vegas?
by
btc78
on 15/07/2025, 23:47:13 UTC
i never really have thought that online casinos are rigged but another benefit of playing in a physical casino is the experience itself you walk in and you see the actual casino instead of just seeing your room which you see all the time anyway

anyway there are also ways for a physical casino to be rigged without you noticing so the argument doesn’t make much sense to me
