Monero (XMR) and other privacy coins at risk of delisting from Binance
by

on 04/01/2024, 14:15:48 UTC
In a recent announcement, the infamous crypto exchange Binance has added the Monitoring tag to Monero and other privacy coins.
Cryptocurrencies with the Monitoring tag are at risk of delisting from Binance.

“Keep in mind that tokens with the Monitoring Tag are at risk of no longer meeting our listing criteria and being delisted from the platform,”, Binance notes.
The reason for the delisting is obviously not specified in the announcement, other than to say that it is “based on recent reviews” and that the coins are “at risk of no longer meeting our listing criteria.”

This comes after a strong regulatory pressure against Monero and other privacy-preserving cryptocurrencies, in both the European Union and in the United States of America.

In my opinion, this wave of de-listings is showing us just another time that centralized exchanges cannot and should not be trusted. Decentralized exchanges such as Bisq are definitely a decentralized, more secure way to exchange your coins without compromising your privacy and without the risk of being FTX'ed.

Stay safe. Be sovereign. Avoid CEXs.

if you have all the required technical competences for developing it, purchasing the domain, servers and such will cost you at most $100 a year... but probably less

Re: What are alternatives to annoying captchas?
by

An alternative could be a sort of Proof-of-Work executed by browsers via WebAssembly.
Similar to the now-defunct CoinHive service, but like, used for verifying that you are not a bot.
could still be bypassed by bots, but would be more expensive as you would have to get a CPU mining rig just to verify captchas.

another advantage of such a service is that you earn mining fees too.

Unfortunatly I am not aware of any such service.

Interessante!
Comunque continuo a preferire I2P rispetto a Tor.

Getting hacked once is all right. Everyone does mistakes.
But twice? In less than 10 years?
I mean, it's a critical field, security should be the top priority. How come you be hacked twice in 10 years?

What's your favourite Alt-Coin, and why?
by

What's your favourite cryptocurrency besides Bitcoin?

Maybe Monero, with its privacy, scalability and fair mining?
Ethereum, with its innovative smart contracts?
Maybe Litecoin, the old and trusted low-fee coin?
Or Bitcoin Cash, which tries to follow Satoshi's vision?
Or, why not, Dogecoin, the funny coin?

Pick your favourite and reply here why you love it!

Re: Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming

Well this is 1 of my favorite games so I am very excited to play GTA 6. And then we can see a trailer for the game in this December.

It has been 10 years since they gave us GTA 5. Is there any other GTA fans excited for this new GTA 6?  https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-6-will-reportedly-be-announced-this-week-ahead-of-december-trailer/

Let's hope that it does not require a $20000 RTX 200 000 Ti to run...
Many modern games are so badly optimized that you can't even run them on 5 years old high end GPUs.

Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees?
by
btcswimmer
on 07/11/2023, 18:30:54 UTC
Yes. The high transaction fee occurred because of the listing. Ordinals are currently a major part of Bitcoin's block size, and Binance listing made the situation worse.

A solution could be to limit the amount of arbitrary data that can be included in a transaction (similar to https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/8733, which was implemented by the monero community to stop transaction spam on the network).

However, given the status quo of Bitcoin development, I don't think it's ever going to be implemented, just like many other needed improvements (such as increasing the block size) that aren't being added.

Apart from Monero, most other "privacy coins" are either premined/with dev tax (zcash, dash, turtlecoin, firo, pirate chain), transparent by default (zcash, dash, firo).
And then there is Wownero, a memecoin Monero clone.
I'd say to stick with Monero.

Re: Mining with solar panel+battery+inverter is it possible ?
by
btcswimmer
on 05/09/2022, 14:00:43 UTC

Now the real thing is what can be the minimum setup to start at the first stage of mining and how much watts of electricity will cost it?
If you want to mine Bitcoin you have to spend several thousand $ worth of ASIC equipment, and it will probably not be worth the price even with free solar electricity.
You can mine using your home computer(s) instead. You might want to mine Monero, another cryptocurrency that can be mined on any computer, then converting it to Bitcoin using services such as fixedfloat, or to your local currency using localmonero (which might be dangerous if crypto is banned in your country).
You can search on your search engine of choice about how to mine Monero with p2pool, a decentralized mining pool, and then start mining.
