Litecoin soon will die, because it hasn't any reliable use. Nowadays price-drop only confirming it.

People were saying that years ago when it crashed to one dollar. It's still here, and worth a damn site more than that today. Litecoin is useful if you want to make a fast transaction between big exchanges. It's on all the big exchanges and fast. That gives it value.

I don't know whether the amount they paid is correct, but Bitfinex did announce they reached a settlement with the US CFTC. It's top of the Bitfinex announcements page. I quoted the whole announcement below, although I couldn't find an amount paid in it.

Announcements > Bitfinex and CFTC reach settlement

June 02, 2016

Today, the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued an order instituting proceedings against BFXNA Inc. (BFXNA), an entity that conducts business with U.S. customers through the website www.bitfinex.com. In the order, the CFTC accepted BFXNA’s offer of settlement to resolve certain alleged violations of the U.S. Commodity Exchange Act (the Act). A copy of the order is here. In the order and settlement, the CFTC found that BFXNA violated sections 4(a) and 4d(a) of the Act. BFXNA neither admits nor denies the CFTC findings in the order and settlement.

Bitfinex proactively contacted the CFTC in September 2015—before the CFTC announced enforcement action involving bitcoin trading platforms—to provide information about Bitfinex related to a potential investigation. According to the order, "Bitfinex’s cooperation with the Commission’s investigation was significant … Bitfinex consistently responded to requests for information fully and quickly, both in writing and via oral presentations."

In response to these constructive discussions with the CFTC’s Division of Enforcement, BFXNA has made significant changes to the way in which U.S. customers engage in financed trading on Bitfinex. Bitfinex remains committed to continually improving its customers’ experience while complying with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

In closing, we are pleased to announce this settlement with the CFTC. The CFTC has engaged in a productive, open, and timely dialogue with us, and, as a result, we believe we have a better understanding of the regulatory framework governing financed trading on our platform. The Division of Enforcement has demonstrated that, while they will work diligently to enforce existing rules even as they apply them to new markets, they also are sensitive to innovation and development in sectors that the CFTC regulates.

We look forward to providing best-in-class service to U.S. customers. We will continually work to make our customers’ experience safer and better.

Themerkle confirms the amount of 75k is correct.

It will take at least 50+ years for the whole world to adapt. Like the guy above me said, some people don't even shop alone and some don't even make use of online banking at all. I think that as long as people are adapting to bitcoin every year, the value will keep on growing.

It won't happen until the kids who grew up after bitcoin existed become old people. By then everyone will be shopping online and will think of bitcoin as common place instead of a niche thing. Not everyone owns a smartphone yet, but all the kids do, and when they are old everyone will. It's the same for bitcoin.

Re: Big banks creating Bitcoin alternative
by
bubble83
on 18/12/2015, 00:13:20 UTC
Wrong title!

What the big banks are creating is not a BTC alternative, nor is it against BTC at all. BTC is a cryptocurrency with an open public ledger. The big banks are creating a large distributed record book, but it won't be public (it's only for big banks), and it won't be associated with a cryptocurrency.

I like it. The big banks are doing their thing, and they don't mess around with BTC.

Big banks could use a large tamper proof distributed record book, but don't want to pay for the running costs of mining the bitcoin network. They have their R3 blockchain group which recruited bitcoin core developer Mike Hearn to make a system that's 100% under their control because they can't control bitcoin.

Ripple had giveaways here back when they were allowed. Early on there was a giant ripple giveaway, and it must have encouraged some of the people who got coins to get involved and buy more. Whatever your view on its centralization there are people who invested in it for years. Not everyone given free coins dumps, some buy more coins.

Re: This speculation forum is the biggest waste of space

A million threads from people who give their opinions with zero facts, or who claim to be able to see the future and can predict BTC movements into the future (yah right), and my new favorite, threads with completely fake headline news.

Basically you could delete 99% of the threads on here, and you would not miss anything.

What facts are there, by the time the facts come out bitcoin either drops or goes up. So it's to late.

He probably took advice from someone on here who sounded like he knew what he was talking about, and lost a pile of cash. Otherwise why was he reading the speculation forum if it's such a waste of space? I haven't looked at some boards here because they have no interest to me, so why doesn't he just ignore speculation?

Re: How did this address mine so many coins?
by

on 05/12/2015, 21:22:32 UTC
You already investigated it ages ago and found out it's the address from BTCChina Pool. It's been nine months since you wrote about it. Looking at the date of the first mined coins in it BTCChina mining pool might have started using that address when it split from Discus Fish.

This is rather a odd question. Why does this interest you?

1) You go to the blockchain, search an address and when you see this:

2) Depends on what you consider fresh. If you consider coins that haven't been moved since they've been mined then yes. It has no trail behind it. If you use the blockchain you will see the image above on each transaction.

3) This really depends on the pool. They can do whatever suits them more.

4) https://blockchain.info/address/152f1muMCNa7goXYhYAQC61hxEgGacmncB
This is the address from BTCChina Pool.

Update: Looks like some people partially beat me to it. I don't care about the tip though. OP if you have more questions please address them while I have free time.

OMG. This is definitely not a Bitcoin discussion topic. I have a feeling that the media is going to come out and say that the whole business was based around Bitcoin and just keep making Bitcoins reputation worse.

The first stories about it are hitting the mainstream news. Reuters has written a story about it, and the only mention of bitcoin is that it's a virtual currency that Silk Road users bought drugs with. It doesn't do anything good for bitcoin's reputation when stories like this associate it with buying drugs.

Prosecutors said Clark, 54, was described by Ulbricht as a trusted "mentor" who regularly advised him on the management of Silk Road, a website that allowed users to anonymously buy drugs using the virtual currency bitcoin.

He faces up to life in prison based on charges of narcotics conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy contained in a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan.

A lawyer for Clark could not be identified.

It's not unusual for there to be a £10 difference between dollar and yuan exchanges. The table from tradeblock compares the prices of bitcoin across the largest exchanges, and all the yuan exchanges are $10 higher today. I have seen $40 to $50 differences before today, and a $10 is on the low side of the average difference.

Bitcoinity is my favorite because I like the presentation it gives to real time bitcoin price charts.

Bitcoinwisdom is next on my list, and would probably be top if I was a professional trader because of all its trading indicator tools on real time bitcoin price charts.

Blockchain.info is my favorite block explorer, again because of its presentation, and also its online wallet's tools.

Bitstamp and Bitfinex are my final favorites because they are the top dollar/bitcoin exchanges.

He's probably going to get something along the lines of a 5 to 6 year incarceration and he'll be released afterwards with no charges. He'll probably have tons of hidden BTC somewhere and will remain a millionaire for the rest of his life. Would you be 5 years in jail to be released as a millionaire? maybe for some is a good deal.

Is Karples still a French citizen, and can he be deported from Japan after serving his time there? I know he married while in Japan, but I don't know if he married a Japanese citizen. Reuters says his wife now lives in Canada and I know that to get US citizenship you have to be married and cohabiting for about 7 years. Maybe the US will extradite him after he's served his Japanese time, then he can do some time in a US jail.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/04/21/us-bitcoin-mtgox-karpeles-mother-idUSBREA3K01J20140421

Anne visited Karpeles in Japan, her first trip there, for 10 days from late-November last year, meeting his Japanese wife and their 2-year-old son Pierre.

"(The wife) has gone to Canada to live ... that didn't really help Mark, with all that's happening," Anne said, though she said she has more contact today with the wife than she does with her son.

It's kind of fun watching the manipulator play with all of the traders like this.  Talking about the bidwall as if it was real, and now that sell wall as if it's real.

If it wasn't for the fact that Bitfinex does leverage its order book chart would look identical to Bitstamp's. How much would it cost to put up a giant 20k wall like the buy wall that just got pulled?

Why did you not consider the Cryptsy XRP Markets? Most of the coins in it have prices that dropped too low to trade in a litecoin market although some of them once had bitcoin markets. Buying them is an extreme long shot gamble but could pay off with an extreme dose of luck.

Do you consider them too risky to invest in, like million to one shots?

Rates across exchanges just now (:14 past the hour)

Kraken and OKcoin have a $11 difference.

Which site shows that table of prices on different exchanges please? That looks like extremely useful information.

Price difference between Kraken en the Chinese exchanges is now over $10. This means arbitration is exhausted for the moment?

It's at $251 on the Kraken at the moment and 253 on OKcoin. That's not a very big difference considering the Kraken is low volume and a small amount of coins can move its market by a considerable amount. Where did you get your figures from?

BTW, your post is timestamped 21:27 CET, Kraken was at €220.29 ($249.80) and OKcoin at ¥1,598.50 ($257.52), according to bitcoinwisdom.com, a difference of $7.72 -- which makes me wonder, where did you get your figures from? Wink

I was looking at different currency markets to you. I only checked the USD markets without doing the conversions into different currencies. I got my figure directly from the Kraken. There is a spread between $249 and $251 on the Kraken and someone had probably bought when I got my figure.

This is what the Kraken's USD market looks like to me.

lol! FED bankers never promise anything. in fact they stay most of the time as indifferent as possible.
Yeah, she's just a moneyprinting slut working for the banks. She will NOT raise the rate this year, and she will just keep her options open like today. Her boss, the private banks, want to continue printing money out of thin air at zero interest, lol.

CBC says the risk of a Grexit might put the Fed off raising the interest rates at all this year. Maybe if the Greece thing works out OK they might consider it, otherwise forget it.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/fed-keeps-interest-rate-steady-but-hints-at-hike-to-come-1.3117342

Some economists also note that if a Greek default and an exit from the euro currency alliance were to ignite turmoil in global markets, or if investors dumped bonds and sent long-term rates soaring, the Fed might decide to put off a rate increase until next year.

Fed decision in 31 minutes...
EDIT: Decision now, no change in interest rates. Yellen speaks in 30 minutes. She will probably promise to hike the rate in september. And then she will not raise it in september, lol.

Damn... we're living the dream people. This should be the bulliest news since the beginning. BTW: News has it that Juncker came up with a better proposal for the Greek gov. No Grexit?

I think both sides initially refuse to agree to try and get the most concessions possible. They will probably eventually reach another agreement that kicks the can down the road for another few months. That's what happened the last time. I'm not sure if Grexit fears are behind the Bitcoin rally anyway.

perhaps good to join cryptsy or poloniex for second big exchange

Cryptsy tends to keep coins on the exchange even when they go through a few weeks of low volume. Other exchanges quickly get rid of any coin with temporary low volume so it's a good idea to get on Cryptsy. It's also one of the oldest exchanges and people know it's not likely to shut down.

Network weight has nearly doubled!

This is an excellent sign Smiley Get your hard hats on everyone!!
I already have mine Smiley

I've been holding mine since the low 30k range but was hoping that I could snag some more up fairly cheap but it's starting to look like I'm going to have to just pay more FACK!! Good sign though for sure Wink Cheers

There might be a few mini dumps before it goes up further. You could split your money, put some low-ish buy orders on, and use the other half to but directly from what's on offer. Hedge your bets that way.
