I don't have too much to say, but it sounds like a good idea. Showing a company that "25 BTC have been pledged to you, if you begin to accept bitcoin!" or something like that might be compelling for them to begin accepting it. As a slight twist, I think the big companies should be petitioned, but you're right that Bitcoin will probably be accepted by the little guy largely before the big guy. I am willing to bet several companies will find themselves risking obsolescence by Bitcoin-based start-ups before they accept it
Here's a comment: if you're the first to allow clean, user-friendly crowd-sourcing via bitcoin -- I see bright days in your future. Lemme know if you need an extra dev or whatever. I forked you.

I feel like a smart enough wallet client could solve this problem entirely, using many of the above suggestions -- most importantly crypto I'm a dev... I'll think on whether or not I could make something that works for this purpose.

Actually, I solved it. Turns out I had indeed told it to try mining. Nevermind. Would delete thread but I can't; turf it if you want, mods.

I see a few threads posted about this by other users where bitcoin-qt wallet takes up nearly all or all of the CPU usage available. I'm not mining or anything, to the best of my knowledge. Is there some way I can tell it to cool it?

I saw "millies" and "mickies" somewhere and that works lovely for me. I agree with an earlier poster here that calling it after someone living -- who isn't pseudonymous, to let Satoshi off the hook -- is too weird.

I think we can go broader than this. What about an action website like the EFF has too? And street-team sign-ups for various physical packages containing either print-outs for free (bookmarks, pamphlets, posters) or merch for BTCs (t-shirts,etc.)

If a magic man approached me today and told me "Yes BTC will prosper as long as whatever fiat you choose." I would dump every penny today.

No. Not necessarily. The price of gold fluctuates and it's been around way longer than Bitcoin may even survive to be
