[WTS] 5x s9 in SE USA - $1500 ea
by

For sale are 5x Antminer s9, all Dec/Jan 13.5T batches all running above their rating: 13.859, 13.701, 13.984, 13.802, 13.912 24h averages.

$1500 cash or 0.16 BTC each including APW3, negotiable if you want the whole set.  Escrow accepted, buyer pays escrow and shipping.  Local pickup is fine in Raleigh, NC if we text photo ID between us first.

In the pic below there's also an Avalon - it's warming my garage now, not really interested in selling it but the T9 that took it's place could be pried from my hands if the price is right.  That one is a 12.5T with 24h average of 12.888.

Did bitcoin drop?  I just thought the value of all world currencies increased, I was cheering for the common man all day.

Anyway, cash is fine if you want to avoid volatility and spend some of your newly empowered dollar bills.  Or BTC of course, but I also hate trading during price swings.

Re: Cheap and simple repair of S7 hash board
by

on 02/01/2018, 01:33:36 UTC
I am looking at a couple of S7 boards with a few dead chips.  Many upstream chips look good, but I'm having trouble communicating with them to verify.

Does anyone know if the BM1385 CRC5 is the same as the BM1384 CRC5?  Meaning 84 00 00 11 is a complete getstatus command..

I was considering pulling the whole tier of chips and undervolting ala this thread to compensate, but I *believe* that the ribbon cable's TX is non-level shifted, while the CI at the input side of each tier IS level shifted.  Meaning it won't talk unless I negatively level shift the ribbon's TX, which I'm not thrilled about doing.

I am currently considering pulling one tier + one chip of the next tier to access a non-level-shifted CI and strapping in a diode or a flipped-over 1385 to take up the extra current, but that's major surgery.  Best to make sure I'm sending the right command before pulling 4 chips and getting my splice on, heh.

Ali express has seller protection.  Alibaba you're on your own to negotiate a payment in a safe format.

I could find many sellers for the bitmain chip. I asked for a bulk amount, which was about $8. I'm guessing just a few chips will be more expensive per unit, or they might want a minimum order of some amount (I hope no higher than 10).

As for pinout diagrams, it seems they would be your only real problem, shame I can't help you with that. I am pretty sure you can buy these chips though. At least for the S9. I don't know about the S7.

-edit-

Ah, it's an S7. I would have looked up for you on alibaba, but I can't find the specific chip? Ah, found it. It's a BM1385. Yes, one seller does seem to have it for sale. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Miner-ASIC-Chips-BM1382-BM1385_60707278004.html
Try contacting them. Hope it's any help. Good luck. Would help you more as barmitzfit said with the pinout chart even if you can buy the chips it seems there will be more problems.

There seems to be many more retailers for the S9 chip than the S7

The only reason I asked for a pinout was to determine if they were a scam or not. I mean, how can a company that sells these chips not have any technical information? I don't think the ASICs on alibaba are real, I see a lot of threads on here discussing how people can create their own SHA256 ASIC and most of the answers come back saying it's impossible (The equipment used to make them is in the millions).

edit: I mean this from my own expierence, I contacted a few of these suppliers and they never answered after I asked for any technical documents

+1 to this guy for asking the right questions.  Who rides with Ali Baba?  The 40 thieves.

Looking for a bad s9 board
by
cableiso
on 30/12/2017, 00:50:42 UTC
Anyone got a bad s9 board they can lend?  I want to take some measurements, and I will try to repair it.  Pm me the approximate age and the symptoms, should take less than a week.

Please note that if one of the islands has a scorched chip, the best that can be done is jumping it which will drop a few units from the chain.  No biggie, really.

But if it's flaky, has got bad caps or DC-DC, there's a good chance that it can be fully revived.

Takes about a day or two to diagnose, and a few days to repair as I have most parts on hand.  Should be back to you in a week.

[WTB] sick or dead s9, t9, or r4 board for reverse engineering
by
cableiso
on 25/12/2017, 15:32:02 UTC
I'd like to trace out the s9 circuit, and to do it I need to desolder a couple of chips and trace the wiring.  The object is to build a smaller, quieter hobby miner.

I'd like to buy a sick or dead board from s9, t9, or r4.  I intend to reassemble it, but can't promise anything.

Anyone have a sick or dead s9 board they would sacrifice for the reverse engineering gods?  There is some chance it would be brought back to life after pulling a few chips and tracing, but no promises.

Sure, lots of suppliers claim to have access, but if you press the story is that they will try to get the chip if you prepay for 10K units using wire transfer.  Tread carefully, ali does not have protection like aliexpress.

I have a quantity of s9 that were purchased around $1385 and $1425 USD.  I could disassemble them and get several thousand chips at roughly $7/unit. But that's not a good deal, of course.

Let's see if anything pans out.  Has anyone RE'd the s9 to the point that the comms format is known?

Ali is a notorious liars den, but who knows.  Just like the sales page here, let's see if any who claim to hold the chip can produce a photo of the goods.  Smiley
