Re: A decision to make
by

Would you rather buy a house to live in or rent an apartment to invest in bitcoin  Since bitcoin is experiencing bear what decision will you take make use of the season or let it pass.

bitcoin is experiencing a bear market now, housing is on the verge of entering bear market territory...
Cash sitting in cash is another problem though...
Your question cannot be answered constructively because:
a) you did not specify the amount
b) you did not specify the specific real estate opportunity.
c) your daily expenses are unknown
d) do you have mouths to feed?
e) whats your cup noodle stamina level?
f) what is the amount of savings left AFTER your investments?
g) what are your debt obligations?

any advice you get without the details is generic advice and therefore probably inapplicable.
Why?
Real estate has far more variables then btc.
BTC only has 2 variables, up or down, reasons usually come after the action and rarely before.

Do a personal stock take first, ensure there is enough for daily necessities and debt obligations for atleast a year or 2, put some in real estate in city area and half of that in crypto dont pick one over the other.

Do not go into crypto overnight, hedge yourself on atleast 5 levels.
1 is today's price (x)
2 x-10%
3 x-25%
4 x-35%
5 x-50%

that way if you hit 5th level you aint completely sore.

Re: Countries with the most expensive fuel | Greece's case study

To add onto the pricing of oil... there are HUGE oil ships parked in the sea the size of small countries... nationalization of assets would be a good call for such assets as they are only going to profit the elites anyway.

Tesla is already receiving orders for their Semi, by depositing a $20.000 down payment. If I'm not mistaken, deliveries are claimed to start from 2024, according to Elon Musk. A few other companies are also said to develop, or have developed smaller trucks already, such as BYD or Daimler. It would be interesting to see what range they'll achieve, because they're way too heavy, and how fast they'll charge
I wish the whole world turns to these environment friendly vehicles - and there is no need for fuel - this OIL war has done so much damage to the world. The monopoly is not going to end and there will be no peace on the earth if the same situation continues.
Instead of the current problems with gasoline, problems with electricity will begin, that's all.
Well, Brent oil has spiked to $125/barrel, which will send prices over 10 cents per liter, surpassing €2.45/liter of unleaded 95 petrol. As you've said yourself, the situation is bound to get worse, and I'm not sure how our citizens will make ends meet, including myself. Electricity will become a huge issue in the upcoming weeks, they are already discussing to ban cars on Sundays, limit A/C usage and a few other measures that I cannot recall at the moment.

The reliance on oil has always been the easy solution but it is not the only solution. The problem is the politicians are not paid to solve problems, they are paid to politik problems. Europe has ample land, order solar panels from china and put em up like no tomorrow and watch what happens. China's factories can churn out panels pretty fast. The poorer regions could use this as a source of income for the richer regions. Solar efficiency is increasing despite the funding for solar being well below the R&D budgets for fossil fuels. There are prototypes of over 50% efficiency, the current solar cells in market are only around 15% efficient right now.

There is still sufficient time to shift from fossil fuels before reserves dry up... oh and theres a shortcut too if the earth doesent matter, just buy from the other oil producing countries, countries like the UAE have tons theyre sitting on.

All of this wont happen though... heres whats going to happen instead... largely nothing will be done to address the supply issue. Some supplies may be arranged from alternate suppliers but they will be inadequate. Fuel prices will continue rising. Daily items prices will sky rocket. In some countries the prices of groceries tripled during early days of covid and continue to rise till today.
"You will own nothing and be happy" know where that comes from?
The money printer that was turned on during COVID will continue the after effects of 'inflation'. If this does not show why FIAT is a failure i do not know what will.. This is why BTC exists and is a hedge against inflation.

EVs will not solve the problem because the problem is where does the electricity come from? Many times a major chunk of it comes from fuel...

I am optimistic that the problem of energy is addressable on a global scale without fossil fuels but skeptical that any major country has the guts to move away from fossil fuels dependence (bhutan is a good pilot case study on green energy as a major source of energy)

Mining ROI
by

on 02/06/2022, 15:17:57 UTC
Hello all,

Hope to get some inputs from miners, not resellers here.
With the current pricing of hardware even after the drop, the ROI has gone from <1 year to 5 years on paper, this essentially means it will never ROI if btc stays at same value as difficulty will continue to increase, why is anyone even purchasing hardware at this point? Yes i know the btc might go up yada yada but i might as well put money into btc directly instead of mining hardware which is far less complicated..?
As a miner i feel so conflicted right now, what are the other miners doing?

Worth of bitcoin ATM machines (BATMThree)
by

on 29/01/2022, 07:37:29 UTC
Hello!

How would you value used bitcoin atms being resold as new and as used?
Specifically im looking at buying some used BATMThree machines.
E.G. for used typical hardware the price is reduced by half (not gpus or miners). When i had an ATM custom made it cost me around 3k usd for new but these are selling for 6k as a starting point.

Anyone with firsthand experience on these machines?
Does the software charge any commission for transactions?

Re: Where are NFTs stored and do you really own them?
by

That's the neat part.

What you are buying is "digital ownership". Not the item itself. You are the owner of a piece of data that says you are the owner of a piece of art.

The piece of art itself.. well anyone can just right click -> save as. For free.

NFT tech is great for many things. Selling jpegs isn't really one of those things.

exactly, yet the hype is huge for buying these jpegs at inflated values... NFT's have great potential if linked with IRL but as pure jpeg only, whats the point?
So you own that NFT, forget a second chain, you can save the same jpeg on the same chain and name it something else, viola!
NFT for games ok.... sure... maybe....
NFT for irl stuff, definately a good case but has failed on many occasions

They do not even have a thread here.... is there any other resource to read about the up and coming games?

And proof of past work is more important for larger jobs... if you go for smaller works they will not impact you so much. try looking around at free lance websites like upwork.

Re: Proof of past work!

but that person has just finished learning graphic designing so he has never worked for a single client! Now the challenge comes when the person creates his post here about his services and some people start asking about his past works while he just finished learning and he is trying to get his first customer here!

Do you think it would be easy for that person to be trusted if he had never worked for a client before? How would you interpret this person, would you dare to give him your work?
I was lucky to translate things (although most turned out to not be viable projects) in the earlier days. However, I gave that up for a while due to lack of time. When I came back I've translated a few things for free just to get back in business. One has to think and plan. One has to advertise even his skills. And even so there's no guarantee it will pay off. Then think on the chances of those who don't do anything...
You have just given me a great idea! I think if I believe in what I do, then I can start with a limited-time free service so that people can know me and know my abilities. Perhaps this strategy will help in building my portfolio and I may be trusted! Thanks buddy.

You do not have to offer your services for free... you can start at sites like fiverr and offer cheaper variations of your services for a start, very basic stuff and build up from there. Creative jobs like designing are even more 'customized'. every customers requirements will be different and therefore product different. Just because one person liked your service it does not have any significant impact on how the next customer will perceive your service... this will apply regardless of free or paid. You may end up with false praises in free services which would only work to keep you illusioned.

i do not think its worthwhile to be staking ETH. You are actually risking your eth to losses for a measly few percent. Better to lock them up somewhere and keep it safe.
