Hello all,

Assuming an unlimited budget and 1000 watts from the wall of free electricity available 24/7, what do you recommend for a miner. It can be Bitcoin or any other cryptocoin, I don't care as I will eventually be converting it to USD. I also want to miner to be as quiet as possible.

Banning a subsect of people from the country counts as hate speech.

It is not a hate-speech. It is just a precautionary measure. Do the Americans allow North Koreans to travel to their country? No. Every now and then, the Americans deny visa to high ranking politicians from around the world. A few years ago, the current Indian prime minister (Narendra Modi) was denied a visa to visit the United States.

There is a difference.

Muslims represent 1/7 people across the world and actually have a lower chance of being a terrorist than White Americans. North Koreans are banned from entering the country not because of fears of terrorist attacks but instead to limit their technology and economical power as a punishment for their aggression. If Donald Trump wanted to ban ISIS members from entering it would be one thing. But banning 1/7 people for something that causes no more terrorism than Christianity is just silly.

What about the freedom of speech? Donald Trump has never instigated violence towards any particular minority ethnic group. He has only proposed to place restrictions upon Muslims and other immigrants entering the United States. A large section of the American population is concerned about the abrupt demographic changes caused by the unlimited immigration. They want this to stop.

Banning a subsect of people from the country counts as hate speech. Freedom of speech is not a universal right. Just as you cannot yell "fire" in a movie theater you cannot say hate speech under the freedom of speech.

He also wants to do other stupid stuff like keeping people from getting vaccinated etc.

Donald Trump has made a number of hateful comments towards a large number of people. These comments have hurt Muslims, Immigrants, and a number of American people groups. He's also said stupid shit like cancelling vaccinations in the Untied States.

Link of stuff he's said: http://www.bustle.com/articles/90679-the-16-worst-donald-trump-quotes-are-all-the-evidence-you-need-that-hell-never-and

Found this interesting petition online. Recommend signing it to make the United States a better place.

Re: why do people agree to pay taxes?
by
cameronpalte
on 21/02/2015, 23:06:59 UTC
Paying taxes is part of a social contract.  I pay taxes and expect several things in return: security and an ever improving way of life, basically.  I had a neighbor that used to complain of paying taxes when the money went to schools and programs for school children.  I could have made the same complaint but you have to think about what that money is doing.  Putting kids through school enables adults to spend more time in the work force.  It educates children.  That's pretty much it.  I mean, that's just one example of many but you get the idea.  Also think about when new technologies such as the internet come along.  The internet is a new attack vector for pedophiles so you need law enforcement to handle it and that costs money.

Why is it so hard to understand that libertarians are not against paying for services, just against paying by compulsion ?
Let me pay for my school. Let me decide if my child need schools at all.

A contract assume two consenting person. But if you don't consent, you go to jail. This is not what I call a contract.

And you misunderstand what social contract is - social contract is you pay because you expect things from the society.

Let's say you live in a country with 100 million people. You may use more than your 1/100 million share of the roads. But may not have kids in school. What social contract does is it keeps you from saying I don't want to pay for school but then not paying extra to use the roads more.

You are right a contract assumes two consenting people and that is what government does - you don't go to jail if you don't consent you go to jail if you break the law. And the law states that if you want to be a citizen and live in the U.S. you have to pay taxes. You don't have to pay taxes in the U.S. but you can't choose to live in the U.S., be its citizen and receive those advantages without paying taxes.

Is the monitor new?

And no one wants to pay a $100 assembly fee on a $300 computer (not counting your monitor) - there are much better deals than that.

For a new computer, with the monitor (assuming its actually worth $100 since I don't know much about monitors) I would say the computer would be worth $400 tops - and that's with the monitor. The difference between having you make it and purchasing a desktop from an actual company is an actual company has guaranteed support & warranty plus normally you get the OS for a very low price.

Re: The reason that crude oil price crashed
by
cameronpalte
on 30/12/2014, 18:49:58 UTC
The actual reason why oil prices came down was because of a sharp increase in production by the United States and the North Sea operators which resulted in an oversupply for the market decreasing the price - it's all supply and demand.

OPEC does like the lower prices for now however, (which is why it hasn't cut production yet), because many of the new projects in the US and the North Sea are unprofitable at below $65/barrel so OPEC is hoping that the lower oil price will help drive these projects out of business (a basic monopoly tactic here), which will allow OPEC to control most of the world's oil supply once again.

U.S. actually could pay off its debts but it doesn't because it is not necessary. Compared to many other countries the U.S. isn't that far it debt because its not the debt in $ that matters its the debt compared to the GDP.

Most of you people are idiots.

So let's say the U.S. marches on DC knocks out the old government and decides to replace that with a new government that doesn't charge you taxes...

who will pay for your defense?
who will pay for research?
who will pay for your roads?
who will pay for healthcare?
who will cover education?
who will pay for your infrastructure?

if you don't want to pay taxes your solution is simple. Renounce citizenship and go live in Antarctica or find somewhere else to make your own country. But good luck having anything.

You could then walk away with a 10-15% gain on your money on current BTC prices - no one would do this. If you increased your collateral to say 35 - 40 BTC people would be more interested.
