Re: can't access mymonero.com how do i retrieve my Monero?

Sorry to bring up such an old topic.
But is mymonero. com recommended? Do you know other online wallets?

I don't have an xmr there yet but I have mine and soon I should transfer xmr there, so my concerns.

If you have the storage space and bandwidth, it's better to run the full GUI wallet from the main website - getmonero.org. Mymonero should really only be used for spending money.

Re: How can be MyEtherWallet secure with just a key??
by
canth
on 28/08/2017, 03:37:33 UTC
I don't understand it. To access you funds at MyEtherWallet all you need is your private key. Let's say "u4jk243khj23423h4ojij23i4j2i3j4o23pj4". That's it.

How can be this secure?  Huh  Somebody can write a bot, which will generate random strings (he knows lenght of string). And sooner or later it will match somebody's key. And since he doesn't need any additional password or account name, he will control that wallet.

How is that secure?  Huh

1) It's not that secure - you're pasting a key into a website with client side javascript
2) You have the option of running the chrome browser version of the website. Do your diligence, start here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/44vbef/myetherwallet_chrome_extension_the_beta_has/
3) Use a hardware wallet. You at least are not exposing the private key when performing transactions and can verify the address you are sending to via the ledger/trezor interface which cannot (easily) be fooled into signing a transaction to the wrong address.

Thanks for the updates, cloverme. With the small raise, I'd say that there are far fewer quick-buck type investors than other big hype projects and many will be in for the long hall. Looking forward to more progress and updates now that the fundraising is over with.

Long time no news. Is there any update if anything is going on in this case?

I'll give you an update. Alberto and Fabrizio Tatti are a lot richer today then when they ran away with the funds in 2013, assuming they held their BTC that is. Sad

Re: Some help for a newbie - STRAT, MAID, FCT and etc. wallets
by
canth
on 01/06/2017, 12:37:49 UTC
Hello members!
I am a newbie in the world of crypto currencies and I have a few questions before starting. My idea is to invest in still cheap and perspective currencies, according to the analysis which I have read. Note that this is a long-term investment – I don’t want to exchange and trade. But here come the problems:
1.Where I can buy the chosen coins – STEEM, STRAT, MAID, GAME, FCT and BELA. Maybe I should buy some ETH/BTC from plus500 for example and to store them in Jaxx wallet. Then to trade them in Poloniex for my choices. Is it a good strategy? I heard also that I shouldn’t store any coins in Poloniex, but…
2. Which is the best wallet for my case? Can I use the official wallet of every coin and then print them like paper wallet?
Thanks in advance for your help!  Smiley

1) Buy some Bitcoin from an exchange or localbitcoins. You cannot buy from plus500 since all they offer are non-deliverable contracts for difference (CFDs). https://www.plus500.com/Instruments/BTCUSD

2) Each coin has a different wallet. Get a dedicated piece of hardware, install your own OS, run a local firewall, use full disk encryption, etc and only use it to store crypto. Don't web browse, don't skype, don't open email, don't do anything that isn't related to being your own bank on that machine. Keep a paper backup in several safe places such as safe deposit boxes, buried in your back yard, etc. Key loss due to lack of backups is the most likely way to lose funds in crypto.

3) Don't trade. Buy your stash, don't look at the prices every day. To be clear, you'll likely be better off if you can forget you even had them several years at a time. People have made way more money buying BTC at $300 than at $10 because most will sell early.

Good luck.

i would wait until ether price drops below 10 dollars then i would in invest

^ You'd be better off buying whatever XMR you can afford every week/month and just averaging your cost. XMR could be back to $10 in a month or it could be at $150. Timing the market is usually a losing game.

BTT is so often full of junk that I often wonder if I could just ignore it. More so, I couldn't tell you the last time I clicked on a signature link, until today. Wow...this is a really awesome idea. I definitely played a bit too much of TW2002 back in the day and this feels pretty similar at least from a nostalgia standpoint. PIVX is already on Poloniex... it's called DASH.  Smiley

Shockingly, some people don't want their DASH with 15% of the total market supply fast-mined in the first few hours, thus PIVX. It'll get added.

Re: Dash Instamine is a non-issue.
by
canth
on 19/04/2017, 19:17:03 UTC

Any real world purpose ? yes, there are lots of debitcard providers onboard with Dash or soon getting onboard with Dash that make Dash useable in the world. Also Dash got added recentely
to Whaleclub as a second base currency (first one is Bitcoin), which means Dash can be traded now on traditional markets like stocks, metals, forex and bonds.
Not to mention that integration with Wall of Coins opens up a whole new OTC market for Dash.

With regards to the transactions, that will no doubt increase over time. Specially once Dash Evolution goes public end of this year (also be informed the alpha release is now only a few months away).
One could say that this is smart money getting into Dash, in anticipation of Dash Evolution and maybe also because people are getting aware of the problems with Bitcoin.
Problems with reaching consensus about the direction that Bitcoin should take, the delay in the confirmation time of its transactions, problems with high fees.
There is still pretty much a civil war raging that is tearing Bitcoin apart and is undermining its world usage and most certainly it is preventing world adoption.
Bitcoin is slowly turning into a store of value only, with high fees while growing ever more centralized. In the end it will be nothing more then digital gold.

Dash can offer people a choice, for masternode owners it can offer Dash as a store of value with its steady stream of masternode rewards, for merchants it can offer instant payments to settle point of sale
transactions in their shop and for not crypto users it can soon offer bearing accounts, where they can earn some interest by just holding their Dash in a saving account (this will be part of Dash Evolution).
Dash can also offer optional privacy on the blockchain, while keeping its compatibility with Bitcoin.

What Dash is doing is basicly jumpstarting its infrastructure and its developing and spreading its own ecosystem. People are starting to notice it this year, when they read the many announcements
of Dash strategic partnerships with exchanges, wallet providers and businesses that Dash has been preparing these last two years. This process will only get stronger in the next few years.

What you are witnessing is the birth of a true decentralized autonomous organisation and the power that comes with it, the power to disrupt.

Bitcoin's problems are to the benefit of altcoins up and down the scale, including Dash. Which ones will benefit the most remains to be seen. Perhaps Dash's flaws such as the fastmine-fuckup will be overlooked, perhaps not. Personally I couldn't sleep at night holding Dash while knowing that there were a ton of competitors with fairer launches and equal or better technology. Just because Bitcoin's ability to adapt has stagnated recently doesn't give me any reason to believe that Dash usage is going to increase.

Heh, the community meaning those few who participated in the first hours which distributed 1m+ coins? They didn't want to roll back? No shit. Glad they've made lots of money but this will always hold Dash back from being a top coin, current price aside.

I hope you don't find these insta-mine threads or questions asked by reporters annoying, because I don't expect they'll go away, ever.

Lets see :

Dash added to several major exchanges ? check
Dash available on several FIAT gateways to make it more independant of Bitcoin ? check
Dash making strategic partnerships with light wallet providers on Android, iOS and other relevant platforms ? check
Dash in control of its own marketing, own budget and own governance ? check
Dash in top 10 with regards to marketcap ? check
Dash expanding in other regions / countries ? check
Dash has a clear goal and the means to achieve it ? check

I say Dash currently is a top coin, current price aside.
I say Dash will stay a top coin, regardless of discussions that take place in this specific Bitcointalkforum.
I say Dash instamine history can be brought up as much as you all want to bring it up, but it will not change the market in which Dash (and other cryptocurrencies)
move and grow over time.

Dash getting used for any real world purpose besides speculation? *crickets*

Does this look like an organic ramp up of usage to you? https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/dash-transactions.html

When you need a real store of value, it's BTC at the top, now being challenged by ETH. When you need privacy or fungibility it's XMR or possibly newcomer, ZEC.

Note Dash is not being considered by the grey/dark markets because it's not viable for those. https://themerkle.com/cradlecore-may-introduce-new-monero-and-ethereum-ransomware/

Partial Instamine is a non-issue.

1. Bill Gates pre-mined Microsoft stocks.
2. Mark Zuckerberg pre-mined Facebook stocks.
3. Vitalik pre-mined Ethereum.
4. Crypto-coins are both digital gold and a stock.

I believe that creators need to have financial incentives to make their projects a success.

EDIT: Here a guy that wrote an article that Bitcoin is not a digital gold, but more like a company stock. Good read !
https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/65ks6p/critical_misunderstanding_bitcoindigital_gold/

EDIT2: Even better would be, for the investors, is if creator pre-mines his coins, but uses a 5-year TIME LOCK transaction, so he can't dump it on the market. This will provide a long-term motivation to improve his creation. Pump-and-Dump out; Innovation in !

-Technologov

For you maybe.  The instamine would be 'OK' only if Mr. Duffield informed everyone that he would do so.  But he didn't.  He broke a social contract with the community and that's a bad and dishonest thing to do.  But whatever, DASH is riding sky high and that's what matters for everybody interested in it right?  Wink

Actually Mr. Duffield suggested an airdrop but the Dash community found that a bad idea and it was decided that the best way was to just move forward.
Specially as such a large portion of the instamine got mass-sold on exchanges right after the instamine happened.

Which means he did not break any social contract.

Heh, the community meaning those few who participated in the first hours which distributed 1m+ coins? They didn't want to roll back? No shit. Glad they've made lots of money but this will always hold Dash back from being a top coin, current price aside.

Looking at the big picture, it feels like XMR fair price should be around 60-80USD. At least. Not saying is going to happen overnight, but it seems this is the direction. If we can do it at steady, slow pace, better.

Indeed. I'll take a nice gradual appreciation over some ridiculous *cough* DASH spike. In fact, if those coins switched prices (XMR=$63, DASH=$21) over the next 18 months I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest.

Will buy some monero if it keeps going down. Lower than 0.015 is probably a good entry point, since the price exploded the overall trend is an uptrend if you draw a line on the resistances... maybe a good long term coin if you can buy in cheap, it doesnt seem to suffer from the big drama of bitcoin and litecoin or at least thus far..

If you believe in the tech, the devs and community and your time horizon is long enough then any price is cheap. I hope to hold & use a significant amount of XMR in 10 years.

Downgrade Bitcoin Core to 0.13.2. The issue has been fixed in 0.96 which will be released soon. Meanwhile, if you use 0.13.2 Armory will work fine.

yep worked. thanks for your insight. very much appreciate it.

+1. I had similarly reported issues with Armory not seeing newly broadcast transactions, not broadcasting and not staying up to date with blocks seen in core 14.0. A downgrade to 13.2 solved the issues - waiting until Armory 0.96 now.
