I am new as well and to be honest, you really need to read a ton of threads here and as many articles as you can find.

Most people say you cannot make money mining without putting big money into a mining system, but everyone here seems to want to mine.

I am having problems with the mutiminer and hoping that someone can help me out.

I ran multiminer for at least a week or so with no issues. This software is the best.

When I was using the multiminer, I clicked on one of the links in the miner that said there was a new version. I got an error message after that, but do not recall the error message. I could not get it to work, so I turned the computer off and decided to resolve the issue the next night.

I get home tonight, download the newest version of the software and I am having the same issue.

I am running my video card to mine dogecoin and have an erupter and a USB antminer that mines bitcoin.

When I start multiminer, it recognizes all three items, but simply does not start working. I get the message on multiminer that says "Not Responding".

While I was typing this, an error for Microsoft Net (or something popped up). I copied the error below, but have no idea what it means.

Should I just uninstall the software and download it again? Or does the error message below tell me anything?

Sorry for the long post, but thank you for the help.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Thanks everyone. I am doing it as a hobby and know that I will not break the bank. I have tons of questions and am very curious.

The problem is that while I do not expect to make a million, it would be nice to make a few dollars.

I do not have much of a hash rate, but am more than happy to spread it around so that the economy continues to grow

I am having a blast mining and am on information overload.

The one thing that seems to be missing is how much people are currently making mining.

Since that does not appear to be a hot topic, my question is about selecting a mining pool.

Is there a way to figure out which pool is going to make you the most money?

I understand that are certain parameters that are out of your control, but in general which pool is the best to join?

Are you better off with a smaller pool or a bigger one? When does the economics make sense to change pools?

I am guessing that there has to be a break even point (not sure what it would be called with mining) where you get too many people in a pool because when the pool pays out there is not enough for everyone. In other words, if we have a certain hash rate with 50 people in the pool, it will be a better payout with 500 people in the pool with the same hash rate.

Has anyone ran the numbers or tried to calculate what the "perfect pool" is?

Just curious what everyone thinks about this.

I think I will end up buying the other 4 antminers.  About how long do they last as I have read that at best you will get 0.02 out of one.  I'm guessing after that they no longer work.  I have been running mine for about 30 hours and last I looked I was getting about 1.49Gh/s.

(...)

One more question.  I saw a comment on one forum saying that the antminers are going for around 20 bucks each.  The cheapest I have been able to find a 1.6Gh/s one is 50 and that was on eBay.  What is a good price for them?

If at best you will get 0.02 out of one then the highest reasonable price for it is about $20. I've also only seen offers several times higher. But... looks like there are still some people willing to spend it...

Where are you finding the USB antminers for $20?

My multiminer says I am making about $0.50 per day, which is about what slush's pool shows.

It would seem like you could make more than that.

I paid about $60 for mine, but did not do a ton of searching.

I am just curious what kind of money people are making on Slush's pool and whether or not I am on track for what I should be making.

I have been mining for a couple of days or so using a USB antminer and a block eruptor and have made the following:

Total reward: 0.00092755 BTC

Average hashrate in last 10 rounds: 1851 Mhash/s

You guys are hillarious, reading this topic made me ROTFL  Cheesy

I will post a picture of my tits and my ass if I get 1 BTC.

You might be the age of my granny, what then?

With 1BTC to spend I could just approach any girl I find attractive and ask her to show them, most would agree if they got the money upfront.

I will hold whatever you want as proof that it is me.

How about big black cock and 1 kg of crystal meth?

How about just the key?

Wink

Not sure how to get the meth, but I can do a profile shot where you can see my ass, tits and me holding my black cock.

Heck, for 1 BTC, I will hold up my entire set of keys.
