Got it working - turns out it's a common problem with my MB that only the USB3 ports work :/

I've gone back to Winblows for the time being./

Thanks.

Thanks for posting this. It helped me out big time. Just going through the installation now. I hope that when it's installed I can use more than just the USB3 ports. Big thanks from me for this one  Kiss

About to start litecoin mining with two 7990's. Can anybody recommend which board will be good to house both cards?

Thanks in advance!  Smiley

Hi there,

I just purchased my first litecoin and transferred it to my wallet as a test. However, when I view the tx on block explorer I get:

TRANSACTION NOT FOUND

Is this normal when there are delays or something?

Thanks in advance

Re: open source bitcoin ATM

i know there are a few solutions out there already for ATMs
do you think it makes sense to release an open source solution? i've created a working one over a weekend at a conference i run http://www.geekcon.org/geekcon-2013/bitcoin-atm/
wanted to know if the community sees it as something sensible to be released as open source
if it's an open source ATM any shop can have one at lower costs, self management, and most important - can't be shut down by the regulator b/c it's not a company...

would be happy to hear your thoughts

Would love to see something like this! Great idea  Grin

My main wallet is sitting on an offline linux box using Armoury. Encrypted to hell and back.

For encrypted pen drives, I like using the Ironkeys.

I take it that the mtgox delay in withdrawing funds only exists for mainstream currencies (GBP, USD etc), and not for bitcoin withdrawals?

I have little experience with Mt.gox.... but i have heard they are very slow for withdrawing funds..

BitStamp on the other hand I haven't had any issues like this. (Apart from when they blocked my funds until I provided ID, but I think mtgox did this too, and now it's standard if transferring money from your bank)

On bitcoinity, if you look at this market share chart, you will see that with a 6 months span mtgox provided to around 50% of the market, but in the past 30 days it has leveled out with bitstamp and actually bitstamp held bigger market share than mtgox for the first time (i think)... Around 30% each, this just shows how people are losing faith in Mtgox and prefer bitstamp for many reasons...

http://bitcoinity.org/markets/list?currency=ALL&span=6m

I personally use bitstamp for the current true bitcoin price , that's not to say I don't also watch mtgox prices but I see it as inflated, maybe because this is where 90% of noobs exchange their first coins, idk.

Also if you buying in for the first time, bitstamps prices are generally lower than mtgox, so more bitcoin for your money i suppose...

That's some great info, thanks Davida. I'll check out bitstamp

Bitstamp VS MTGox

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to bitcoin trading, but have dabbled on forex for some time.

Earlier in the week I registered for mtgox, but currently waiting to be verified. I've also had a look at this Bitstamp, but wondering how different it is.

Anybody here used both of them? If so, how would you compare the pros/cons of the two?

Cheers!

Please.  Everyone liquidate your coins.  Get out while you can !!!!!!!!!!!!

Because every one of you that bought at 200, sold at 500 in fear, and now will never afford to get back in?

You just made my coins that much more valuable.

He who holds through the ups and downs will be King.

Only the strong survive.

Love this quote^^^. Long for the win!

Within 5 working days they say.... but for this to happen you first need to submit your ID docs.

Have you tried with a different web browser? It can't be server side because I just helped a friend sign up and submitted the docs successfully. I used FF

I did this myself but have not experienced any issues. Sorry for perhaps pointing out the obvious, but have you tried multiple browsers to see if it fixes the issue? What about the format of your ident docs? I think they only accept *.jpg, *.png and *.pdf

For small amounts I'd suggest somewhere like BitBargain. Other sellers of coins are usually interested in buying in larger quantities too. For e.g. check out: the footer of bittylicious.com, they're buying. Failing that, you could always just use mtgox and place a high sell order when prices spike. Last night would have been a good time to do that with the increased value. I'm fairly new to trading bitcoin, so perhaps somebody could give a more informative answer than myself

I started in January 13.  I tried the faucets for few months when I had nothing better to do.  I made 0.03 BTC (and payouts were bigger back then).  So at today's value my faucet coin is worth ~$12.  The time I put into those faucets could have easily been spent more efficiently collecting recyclable cans at a nickle a piece.  This was when BTC was under $50.  Just $5 in cans back then would have got me 0.1 BTC instead of the 0.03 from faucets.  I don't recommend faucets - just purchase BTC even if you can only afford a small purchase.  Change a habit like drink one fewer coffee out a week or something, most anything will pay bigger than a faucet and if you look at your finances and habits/patterns I bet somewhere you can change something that will save money and have added health bonus.

Fortunately I was able to buy some coins under $50 back then...

All this talk of bitcoins being so cheap. I wish I'd have followed my instincts a few years ago and invested. I only jumped on the wagon a few months back. Still though, prices have risen quite nicely I suppose!

Good topic this. I've recently been thinking about that myself. I think I'll be printing out a paper armoury backup and keeping it in a safe for my kids in the future!!
