Re: Transaction fees by crypto-currency - is there a list?

I was so hoping that this would have yielded a response. I think there is a definite opportunity for a small static website (funded with ads, of course lol) to have this information.

Re: CRYPTO DOOMS DAY?
by

I would say that it is just a simple correction. Even the stock market does this.
Look at the current prices today and how the prices was just one month ago or just 14 days ago.
They are still way up

Honestly, people who are in crypto now are like the people who were buying Cisco stock for a 1.50 in the 90's. Crashes and runs are the name of the game, but for those who stay woke and play it smart, things will be all right.

(obvious disclaimer: this is financial advice, mileage may vary)

Re: [ANN] Binary-Chain - VeriCoin and Verium - The First Dual-Blockchain Protocol

I'm interested in mining Verium. I recently got an old work computer that I wanted to use for this. It only has 2 cores. I set it to mine and after almost a full month I figured it wasn't enough to mine. Should I be joining a pool with this or do I need to invest in a mining setup?

Sell the computer, buy and XU4 odroid SBC, and mine with that. Depending on where you are, it will cost you $100.

or....

Mine a pool. All you will get is dust, but if you keep it running forever and the price skyrockets, you might have enough to buy lunch lol

Seriously, though, mine somehow. It is a great way to get engaged with the community.

If I buy the odroid should I mine in a pool or solo? How many odroid could I theoretically get to mine?

And whatever you do, if you go down this path, make sure you are on the VRM/C slack channel. A lot of really knowledgeable and helpful people that have a passion for the project and want to see you get your miner up and running just as much as you do.

As long as you realize that you are storing value on the blockchain but that the interface MEW provides is web-based. This means that you need to be safe to make sure you get to keep your assets safe.

Platforms like this are all about execution. I hope that there has been some significant work done on how to make this both functional and accessible. Good luck, team!

Re: >>> ATTENTION: PRICE SPECULATION DISCUSSIONS DO NOT BELONG HERE <<<
by
chefcryptoshark
on 15/11/2017, 15:15:49 UTC
this is a great idea. but i think that in every topic the price will be discussed sooner or later.
so i think i only depends on the subject of the topic.

To shill, or not to shill: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The pumps and dumps of outrageous coins, Or to take arms against a sea of FUD, And by opposing end nothing?

lol, I agree, price will come up as part of constructive conversation, but if people are screaming "THERE'S GOLD IN THEM THERE HILLS!", then yeah, that should be banned.

I thought you could stake Verium, but I don't see how to do that in my wallet. I have very mature verium in my wallet, but I don't know how to stake it. Please help!!

P.S. Do I need to convert my Verium to Vericoin to stake them?

Verium is mined, Vericoin is staked.

Thanks Chef. Which do you prefer? Mining Verium, or Staking Vericoin, or both?

You gotta have some deep pockets to make staking worth it. Price is currently ~6600 sats, and several thousand are needed to make the magic happen.

You gotta have some decent hardware (used server with several CPUs with lots of cores) to make mining "worth it". Nothing some time on eBay and technical knowledge can't handle, but you better hope you have 1) government subsidized power, or 2) solar panels in the desert. Electricity usage can be high. I hobby mine, collecting dust in a pool for the fun of it (and because I can).

I think that as there is wider adoption, people will be interested in having their home PCs mining/staking from the wallets. Whether or not it is realistic to do so and expect any rewards blocks is to be determined, and is what I think will be one of the challenges that will need to be addressed in the future.

VeriumReserve is a CPU-only coin. If there was a good mobile miner client that lended itself to a good pool, that would be suuuper legit....

The same sentiment was held when people tried to get investment for soybean farms to produce oil for rubber.

People who invested made more than Satoshi Nakamoto himself.

It takes education, patience and an iron stomach!

Re: Can US Citizens Participate in ICOs???
by
chefcryptoshark
on 13/11/2017, 20:49:30 UTC
There are a lot of ICO's that restrict US citizens. The ones that do restrict US Citizens are the ones that are trying to be in compliant with SEC so that they do not get fined by them.  The other ones don’t think about the SEC, don’t even think that SEC could reach them, or just don’t care about the SEC.

This is how I read your comment:

"An extradition treaty exists: No sales to US citizens. No extradition treaty: All are welcome."

Re: Bitcoin CASH will take over BTC ?
by
chefcryptoshark
on 13/11/2017, 20:45:32 UTC
It will never happen. Bitcoin is the king. Bitcoincash is pumping because of some news and whales out there. Also because of the fork tomorrow. It will never happen that Bitcoin cash will take over BTC. Trust me. I trust Bitcoin all the way.

This.

There was a long period of stable, low pricing that allowed whales to accumulate on the DL. The sales pitch by the whales is the same in the wake of Segwit2x: 1) if approved, it signals that BCH is part of the future, and 2) if failed, BCH is the future. Either way, there would be a run, and gazillions of $ to be made.

Oh, to be a whale....

So the article addressed Bitfinex, but is it the same unit that is traded on Bittrex, or do they have their own "secret recipe" for having a "verifiable mountain of money to protect assets'?

Not really sure that this is legit. Beware.

KIN: https://twitter.com/Cryptonier/status/930011400524754944

SIDE BAR: Wanna know what I think would be awesome for all airdrops? Here it is:

A service where you store your ETH address, bitcointalk profile/username, telegram user name, and Twitter/Telegram integration to where you can one-click follow.

This way, a coin that wants to build a community quickly can do so. Scammers using others' profiles with their ETH addresses wouldnt be allowed, as there would be a database verification.

Re: Where do you hold your coins?
by
chefcryptoshark
on 08/11/2017, 17:21:33 UTC
Some in exchanges, some in mobile wallet and some in hardware wallet. I diversified my coins, it is safer instead of holding all in hardware wallet.

I'm a bit like that, I have small quantities all over the place. I don't fully trust exchanges, but also I don't fully trust myself not to do something stupid if I have everything in my own wallet. The problem with this approach is keeping track of where everything is.

Preach!

With all of the issues that have come up with exchanges, it is risky to have all of your $$ in one place. Some exchanges have more liquidity than others, so it is valuable to diversify not only your holdings but also where it is held.

Re: A newbie just killed Ethereum

Yeah I read it seems like some newb killed the library or something that the multi-sig wallets rely on. 1 million ETH frozen for good.

So does this mean the total circulating volume should be deacreased and boost market cap?

I mean, one can hope, right?
