Re: WTB bitcoins with moneypak

Don't know where else to put this, and I've never used this site before. However, I am looking to buy btc at the market price, I have $170.00 on a moneypak that I'd like to buy them with! If anyone can do this or help, let me know, thanks!

Are you willing to use escrow? If so, then I might be interested. Are you referring to mtgox as the current market price?

Re: sbregar97 tried to scam me

sbregar97 listed an amazon gift card for sale here.  I bought it and he sent me a bogus code.  When I complained, his responses were at least entertaining.  It's not often you encounter a scammer this stupid.  Hopefully bitmit gives me the money back from escrow.

Code didn't work. Says "The amount on this gift card has already been applied to another account."

sbregar97 2013-07-26, 09:56 pm
All codes are double checked to be valid prior to being listed as for sale.
We provided what was for sale, please mark the item as shipped.
If you believe that the code was already redeemed after being sent, I suggest changing your Bitmit password.

coinbits 2013-07-26, 10:59 pm
You can't check the code. Once you put the code on your Amazon account, it can't be used on any other account. Thus I can't use the code you gave me.

sbregar97 2013-07-26, 11:03 pm
Dear coinbits,
Sorry you are having trouble with your Amazon Gift card you ordered. Please remember, we double check all codes before releasing them. It is possible to check the status of a code by either contacting live chat, or just by calling them! Please mark the item as "Shipped" as we have successfully shipped the item. If you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to ask!

coinbits 2013-07-26, 11:10 pm
If you really checked this code they would have told you it was already redeemed. So tell me what account it was applied to and when.

sbregar97 2013-07-26, 11:14 pm
Dear coinbits,
Unfortunately for safety and security issues, we no longer have liability for codes once they are sent. As previously mentioned, we checked as the payment was pending from you and Amazon told us the code was "Valid". If you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to ask!
Bobbi

coinbits 2013-07-26, 11:18 pm
If you had actually bought this code, you would have known it was valid and wouldn't have to check it. Clearly you are getting codes of uncertain origin from third parties. That's not my fault, it's yours.

sbregar97 2013-07-26, 11:27 pm
Dear coinbits,
We are sorry to hear your frustration. However, at the time of purchase we buy bulk Amazon gift cards in increments, and store them in a secure database. The database cannot be breached, and can only be accessed by multiple steps of verification. In there we had your code of $200.00. The codes at no point go through a 3rd party as the database is in cold storage, or in other terms "offline". If you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to ask!
Bobbi

coinbits 2013-07-26, 11:47 pm
Your explanation is ridiculous, but I think you've admitted enough wrongdoing for me to get the money back from escrow. Thanks.

Bitmit system message 2013-07-26, 11:48 pm
The buyer has requested to get a refund of the Bitcoins which are currently in escrow. Unless the seller does not disagree, the Bitcoins will be credited to the buyer's wallet within 7 days

Bitmit system message2013-07-26, 11:58 pm
The seller has declined to release the bitcoins which are currently in escrow

sbregar97 2013-07-27, 12:01 am
We delivered what you paid for, please release the bit coin in our favor or we will contact support

I'm sure bitmit support will be very impressed with your secure database that cannot be breached, can only be accessed by multiple steps of verification, and is filled with bulk amazon gift cards. Smiley

This is why you always use escrow Smiley. JohnK is highly recommended by most

Re: So which new coin to mine?
by

I would like to start mining a brand new coin?
Which ones should I try?

Try middlecoin.com. It automatically mines the most profitable coin and then it converts it into bitcoin and earns a lot compared with LTC mining. Try it out, I like it a lot Wink

Re: How Do I Transfer My Wallet To Another Computer?
by
chiodiip
on 27/07/2013, 18:19:31 UTC
The backup file you made is simply another wallet.dat file with a new name.

To use your backup in a fresh install of Bitcoin-Qt:
-Shut down Bitcoin-Qt
-Find the wallet.dat file from the fresh install. It's usually located somewhere in C:\Users\Your-username\Appdata
-Delete the found wallet.dat file
-Put your backup in the folder where wallet.dat used to be
-Rename your backup to wallet.dat
-Start Bitcoin-Qt and it will use the backup as your current wallet, including it's contents

That is absolutely correct. Always be sure to encrypt your backup wallet file in case someone gets at it Wink

Re: why do you mine?
by
chiodiip
on 27/07/2013, 18:15:58 UTC
Im sure this question has been asked tons of times before but i am curious. Why do you mine?

I can see a few reasons:

1.) (and hopefully the most common) you genuinely want to help BTC/LTC/etc become a legitimate currency in everyday life.
this seems like it should be the most popular answer. but eventually you have to do something with all that mined coin. and with the difficulty building all the time, it seems like a common part of mining is to immediately use your mining proceeds to get more mining power. that way you can actually make back the initial investment and pursue one of the other routes to profitability while still helping bitcoin prosper.

2.) youre in it for the money
you see the btc-usd calculators and just see dollar signs with no real effort other than the initial investment and the occasional power bill. not to mention the actual act of turning that btc into usd which seems like it can be trying at times with all the steps that have to be taken. especially if you are just selling on exchanges rather than to people via craigslist or localbitcoins or similar

3.) youre in it for the money : hardware version
you mine to make btc to mine coins to buy hardware to sell. This ties in to #2 but with the specific focus of being all about selling hardware. This seems to be the most profitable but that is slowly coming down. anywhere that you can get miners for BTC (which to me seems like a more trustworthy business than those miners that take USD, but thats a different topic) you can hoard them and resell on ebay or craigslist or wherever. those 2btc erupter usbs were selling like hotcakes (why do hotcakes sell so well?) at 400 bucks a pop initially! now they have cooled to closer to 1btc (after the price of them dropped to 1btc) rate equivalent and often you can get them for less than 1btc equivalent in USD. this is becoming a problem now because you are often hit with fees so an ebay auction is around 13% when its all said and done. at those rates, you would just be better to use localbitcoins.com to sell your coins but then its way more hassle.

what other categories have i missed? why do you do it?

personally, i am mining for coin just to mine more (it seems to be addicting to always try to get better hash rates :/ ) I have not done anything more with my coin other than reinvest but the time is coming soon i guess to figure something out.
ive got an erupter blade, an erupter usb army thats slowly growing, and an fpga single for nostalgia. my gpus are only hot when im playing farcry blood dragon or something.

For me, it is a combination of 1 and 2. I would like to make some money but I would also like to strengthen the currencies I mine.

Re: 7990 Malta Scrypt mining
by
chiodiip
on 27/07/2013, 18:11:25 UTC
Greetings,

I am using a Gigabyte 7990 (Malta) for Scrypt mining and I wanted to see what results others have had.
using CGMiner 3.2.0 with the following:
cgminer --scrypt --temp-cutoff 90 --shaders 4096 --intensity 19 -o stratum+tcp://[epools] -u [username] -p [password]
and i get 1300 Kh/s with GPU @ 1000 MHz & Mem @ 1500.
Using windows 7 currently, linux doesn't seem to have drivers available yet.

Can anyone top 1300 or help me push it a little further? Havn't been game to mess around with voltages / powertune.

Cheers

That is pretty good. However, in the future it might be best to mine with 7950s because they have better price/performance.

got to make the first bit of chat and wait $ hours should have done when i made the account o well i new i would be back

i mine with craigslist cards
i would like to help and be helped with mine technicality stuff

thanks again seems like a coverletter to a crappy job

Instead of asking for help here, I would highly recommend that you up your rank to at least member and just go to the mining section of the forums and as for help there. In addition, if you specify more of what you are looking for by spending some more time asking for help, you will be more likely to receive assistance.

Re: Centralizing Fraudsters information
by
chiodiip
on 27/07/2013, 17:56:53 UTC
I come from a vast background in virtual currency sales and brokerage. My experience started in 1999 buying and selling everquest platinum via ebay. This was before Paypal days so cash or check was the preferred payment. As Paypal entered the market fraud came with it. So after 14yrs experience and continuing to develop our fraud prevention tools we happily run a fraud rate on Paypal of about 0.01%. Through the years I have seen it all when it comes to virtual goods fraud.

Fraud is something that needs to be addressed and watched. The "bad guys" need to be outed, we had a DB back in the day which included emails, user names, IPs, paypal address, type of scam etc. This was a community driven service and depended on sellers/ buyers to submit the details. From there the details where entered into a nice searchable network which was open to all.

As Mogs.com begins to enter the BTC market we are looking to help ensure a more secure marketplace for all users. With this commitment to a secure environment we are working on developing a similar DB for the BTC market. I would be eager to hear some feedback on this from forum members. Thanks!

This is a good idea but the problem is how it will be implemented. As the post above me mentioned, the issue is that anyone can just change their IP and continue scamming people. We would need a way to identify alt accounts.

Hi, I'm new to this so I just downloaded the latest version of the Bitcoin_Qt client as it seemed like a good place to start and I'm waiting for it to sync up.  It's taken about 9 hours to get to 12 weeks behind and my PC has been maxed out for most of that time.  Is that to be expected?

Yes, it takes a great deal of time to download and sync the bitcoin blockchain. It should take about 24-36 hours to download the entire thing. Also, you can download a lightweight client such as mutlibit for fast usage.

Agreed to a transaction with him yesterday. My gc--->his btc. He takes me out of escrow since he had such good rep on another site. Since I am new to the forums and knew I looked untrustworthy, I agreed. Now he will not respond and has not sent bitcoins. After getting the card info he stopped replying. He did send a msg 4 hrs later saying his internet went out. I believe I read another post about him doing the same thing the night before. He has not offered to fix this issue.

Never do anything without escrow because it is highly risky for that reason.

This is true; however if you keep an eye out there are opportunities for small money
