uhm, I am a bit a noob, I hade some SMC in my windows wallet before the fork, are they lost?
No, just make sure you make a backup of your wallet.dat file (in appdata) from your old wallet. You can place that in the new wallet folder in appdata, sync and your coins are safe. All your coins are saved in your wallet.dat file.

I am a bitcoin noob who registered here for exactly this type of information. I had no idea blockchains could have branches for different alt coins. Could you give some examples of alt coins that have blockchains branched from the bitcoin blockchain?
