Supercomputer Powered by Blockchain Technology Golem (GNT) vs. Elastic (XEL)
https://steemit.com/supercomputer/@roc/supercomputer-powered-by-blockchain-technology-golem-gnt-vs-elastic-xel

Looks like Golem will be stuck with their rendering use case little longer  Cheesy

But really not sure about this one for XEL

Despite of the absence of a clear roadmap, they are going to have a major release in 1~2 weeks.

Where is this info coming from? Anyone can confirm the release?

I think that bit of the article is 'artistic license'.  ;-)

Good article.  Clear and informative.

Interesting what one of the commenters says about Gridcoin:

"......commercial operators just don't want to trust unknown actors with their data processing, so open science projects is the mainstay of work on Gridcoin."

Hello everyone.
I would to know if XEL is based on NXT because the wallet seems to be similar to NXT wallet and the price of XEL at the ICO.

Thank you in advance

The Elastic Supercomputer software is built on top of NXT, with an adapted protocol. What this means is that the basic elementary functions of NXT (send, receive, message, account controlling) are retained and everything else has been removed.

How is elastic different from other coins in the similar area like Golem, Sonm and IExec? Are they all trying to achieve the same results?

@others, feel free to correct me, but here is my tl;dr:

Elastic aims at using the hashing power of the network/of miners directly ot solve bruteforcable tasks
(i.e. trustless, but limits use cases)

Golem is basically supposed to be a payment layer on top of a decentralized computing architecture
(needs a reputation system, is not completely trustless)

SONM looks like a whitepaper with lofty goals to me but I didn't look that much into it
(Dunno, to me, it looks like these guys bit off more than they can chew. This is just my personal view, though)

IExec I don't now anything about.

Here's the remaining comparisons:

iEX.ec
iEx is not a standalone supercomputer software in the same sense as Elastic, since it requires several other pieces of technology to function. It is more a resource for distributed applications. iEx.ec seems to be aiming at providing distributed applications (running on the blockchain) with scalable, secure access to various services, data-sets and computing resources. The technology relies on Ethereum smart contracts and allows building a virtual Cloud infrastructure that provides high-performance computing services on demand.

iiEx.ec relies on XtremWeb-HEP, a open-source Desktop Grid software which implements all the needed features : fault-tolerance, multi-applications, multi-users, hybrid public/private infrastructure, deployment of virtual images, data management, security and accountability, and many more.

SONM
SONM is a collection of technologies used to create their SOSNA technology and not a standalone supercomputer in the same sense as Elastic, since it requires:

Ethereum smart contracts - A consensus system ensuring transparency and security for the system’s participants
Fog computing - A decentralized and more efficient computing model compared to cloud
Yandex.Cocaine - An open source Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) technology, and a decentralized computing platform
Docker Container - An isolated environment ensuring computing parallelism and appropriate apps running on any device
BtSync - A peer-to-peer system for fast and safe data transfer
Whisper - A peer-to-peer technology for node communication

Anybody know why this guy is giving us grief and talking nonsense.

This guy just suck..We can check post in here.

Elastic domain donated for 'cyberhacker'.  This guy owner by btc12.com
What's problem is it?  Huh Wink

I know!  The guy also talks about us pretending old videos are new, when the videos he's talking about are clearly marked as historical.

I've just checked his account on Twitter and he only set it up in August.

Why are people so nasty just to try and make a few bucks?

I do not know if I've missed something, can someone tell me what is being done now ?:
White paper, full wallet, elastic pl, miner ...
Very thanks!!

We're at a transition point at the moment.  We're moving over from a working virtually for free approach to one where people get paid for the work they do.

We need to detail out the work that needs to be done and by whom.

We need to look at who we need to hire, how we can hire them, mechanisms for paying them and so on.

Do we set up a foundation? How do we control the funds? Do we have a voting system for the issuing of bounties for work?

This is a major transition and we need to understand how similar community projects have dealt with these issues.

The price of Elastic may well dip on the Exchanges, but we need to get ourselves sorted out, so we can have a clear path forward.

The input of the Elastic team is vital to this process and when they're ready, I'm sure they'll step forward and state their views and opinions.

Is there any roadmap which gives some clues on when the supercomputer will start to work?
I'm also reading in thread that this project is better than Somn, but any technical reasoning someone is ready to share behind this claim?

Sometimes trying to compare things is not as easy as you'd think.  Elastic is a programmable, decentralised supercomputer, which means it's very versatile, since the only limitations are what can be programmed in the language, which is Elastic PL.
Here's a use case example video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo4bn550YEk

There's also this comparison with some of the other supercomputer projects out there:

Curious, why everyone persists to compare XEL to Golem.
Why not comparing it to SONM?
SONM team has proven top-notch software professionals on board + a lot of money raised through ICO.
They are the real danger to XEL's future not Golem.

Everyone, expecting price rocketing now, would also try to take into account that
the current XEL price is 20-30 times higher ICOs price...

SONM clearly know little or nothing about Elastic, since in their review of us, they got lots of things wrong.

Also, reading their material does not give one confidence that they have a clear idea of where they're going.

I'd be interested to hear why you think their team is top-notch and what their proven track record is.

A great article written yesterday about XEL. Please read and retweet :
https://twitter.com/philfrancis77/status/882038683347673088

It's somewhat chaotic, and repetitive but collects a lot of information in one place.
I like this the most Smiley

Another advantage is that their competitors, are not actually taking them seriously. This flying under the radar, will be a key component to their success.

Yes, the article is somewhat chaotically written and you can see where some of the information has come from the old white paper and refers to XEL as ELC.  But the basic argument of the article is a positive one.  :-)

$1 billion dollar market cap by 2019, I'll quote this post when it happens.

It will happen before 2019!

Maybe... but ICO price was just 800 satoshi and people are dumping elastic to fix their huge profit. I don't really expect the price to rise until this sell off is over.

how is this project better than golem network? how far is the "supercomputer" tech from being ready?

Prototypes are already running but a final version is (imo) still some months away.

There are several differences in comparison to Golem. One is for example that Elastic allows custom work-jobs being processed using an own programming language. While Golem focuses (at least at the moment) on predefined jobs and only very very longterm could handle custom designed work jobs.

But it may happen that Golem's predefined jobs could be much faster and more secure than Elastic's custom jobs. We have seen a video where Bitcoin was mined, how can we make sure that a custom job doesn't contain malware.

That's an excellent question.  I'm not the expert in Elastic PL, but I don't think you could write malware in such a custom built language.  If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I invested in the ICO a while ago (a small amount) anything I can do at this stage?

Yep, you're good.  Go here and find out how to redeem your XEL.  Welcome to the party! https://talk.elasticexplorer.org/categories

I've been asked, "does Elastic use a transactions pool for tasks, a mechanism similar to that used by traditional blockchain systems such as cryptocurrencies?"

Does it?

Anybody know?

How did Elastic suddenly drop through the floor?

It's showing on CMC as having had a 50% drop!!!!!!

What the hell is happening?  Is this because of HEAT?
