Sell me 200 and I'll sell you one.  It's easier if you just send me 199 and pretend we bought and sold.

Make sure he sends you an invoice so you can report your capital gains next year. Cheesy

Re: Major Project set to test bitcoins true strengths on Sovereign Tribal Nation
by
codyave
on 27/12/2013, 04:51:53 UTC
this part of the project also seeks to address the Sovereignty question and how tribal Sovereignty can be used to safeguard bitcoin technology and foster it's future growth. look at start ups like Bitinstant, Bitfloor and other exchanges and services that had good services, good aspirations, and good people behind the wheel...but were stopped due to federal regulations and state interference because of misinformation and pressure from the Fiat based banking community. Had a start up like Bitfloor partnered with a Native american tribe, the tribe could have hosted their servers or even helped run a brick and mortar exchange under Tribal Unified Commercial Codes and insulated them from crippling federal regulations...kinda like how places like costa rica host Online Poker sites due to it's international Sovereignty...only in this case you can drive to South Dakota.

Regarding a sovereign nation operating a bitcoin exchange in the U.S.:

1. Is a sovereign nation required to follow AML/KYC regulations?
2. Is a sovereign nation required to apply for an MSB license for each state?
3. Any other legal hurdles I haven't thought of?

I'm Lakota like Payu, and I want to see a bitcoin exchange operating on sovereign territory ASAP. Tongue

can we crowdfund a plane ticket to get a tribal official to the max keiser show? (go to 11min50sec)

Re: Questions about Mastercoin
by

Why is 1 MSC already price at 0.17 BTC, which is way above all other altcoins?

supply and demand, speculation.

Quote
You can't even trade mastercoins on any exchange yet. I realize that MSC has a lot of advanced features, so are investors expecting it will actually become worth more than a bitcoin?

i would say investors are speculating that mastercoins will be worth more than a bitcoin.

Quote
Could someone comment on what would be a realistic upper limit for how much a mastercoin could eventually be worth relative to a bitcoin, and why?

mastercoin is attempting to corner the market on commodities, currencies, assets, gambling, trading, and smart property. assume 1% of the value of these markets (conservatively $90 trillion) is soaked up by bitcoin when there are 15 million bitcoins on the market. this gives one bitcoin a value of $6 million. also assume the value of these markets can be manipulated using only the mastercoin protocol. If the 620,000 mastercoins (this being the number of mastercoins ever generated) represent the transfer of value of a bitcoin market cap of $90 trillion dollars, the question to ask is at what price will the market demand to use these mastercoins in order to transfer their wealth? this demand will represent the upper limit, and only time will tell what that will be.

Quote
Why has there been so little discussion in the media about mastercoin?

same reason the media does not discuss feathercoin, namecoin, BBQcoin, etc (mastercoin is a latecomer to the crytpo party)

Quote
The price of a mastercoin is way higher than a litecoin, but litecoin has received much more attention in the media than mastercoin. Why?

supply/demand of a unique commodity.

Quote
Is mastercoin intended to eventually replace bitcoin, i.e. like a new and improved version of bitcoin, or just to be another competing altcoin?

mastercoin attempts to expand the features of bitcoin; without bitcoin, mastercoin as we know it is not usable. it would be like saying, "is the FOREX market trying to replace USD?" the answer is no because the FOREX market depends on USD, that among other currencies. the mastercoin protocol is like FOREX because they are both platforms that facilitate the ease at which value can transferred.

i made a [now outdated] model of what it would be like for a user to list property for sale using the mastercoin protocol. to hopefully make the explanation more concrete, i subsituted the bitcoin protocol with a mail delivery service, bitcoins with bistamps, mastercoins with masterstamps, and digital addresses with real/non-deliverable addresses. don't worry if you don't follow along, i barely do. From what I've read about MSC, I get the impression that it's actually not a separate currency at all, but more like an upgrade to BTC. Thoughts?

the mastercoin protocol attempts to manipulate unregulated markets using properties unique to the bitcoin protocol. the mastercoins themselves represent how much value you can manipulate using the mastercoin protocol, and as such will charge a premium.

Re: MasterCoin: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address”

I've been reading up on it.  So, it essentially inserts data streams into the bitcoin blockchain.

Question-- Why does it need a new coin for this?

Sorry for the noob question.

killerstorm's posts explore this question. fwiw, bluemeanie and a few others have strong opinions on coloured coins and mastercoins.

Thinking with my speculation cap I'm guessing this post is making people nervous:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=334316.0

One of the negative side effects of this method of protecting privacy will be large transaction delays for people using MSC?

At worst, such a change would be merely inconvenient, insofar as we would have to stop identifying Mastercoin transactions by their output to the Exodus Address. I, for one, am in favor of doing so anyway.

agreed. the exodus address is our achilles heel, and miners have ample arrows.

...but if achilles is given a thousand heels to run on, would it be cost-efficient to shoot arrows at him?

By the way, I'm perfectly willing to do escrow free of charge if Maxmint or Pouncer are not available. As the order book grows this may become necessary. I will provide full details including the breakdown of the fake address, to show that it's legit, as well as tracing everything back to the Exodus address to prove that the seller for sure owns the MSC. The best way to build trust in MSC is to provide all of the details to buyers so they can audit it for themselves. Of course you take a risk doing escrow with someone like me who is not yet trusted, but I would like to become a trusted member of the MSC community. If you are willing to risk a small amount on me please feel free to PM me.

i think it would be a smart idea to have a few extra users who can provide escrow for just in case scenarios.

I will also volunteer for escrow like jquinn has if you are willing to take that risk. Tongue i won't be available till late this afternoon around 4p.m. PST. Reply or PM with questions, complaints, concerns, etc.
