Re: Here's two major reasons why Bitcoin will soon pass $2000
by

1. India
2. Brazil

These countries have shit loads of money ready to be invested in new opportunities. Once these guys go crazy over Bitcoin, I expect another huge, HUGE rise.

Country having money =/= citizens having money
Sorry but for 2k , 10k  and 100k , we need those good old Us dollars and Euros.

What we need is those good old businesses accepting Bitcoin.

Re: Why The Fair Price Of Bitcoin Is $0
by
coinballer
on 06/12/2013, 07:57:16 UTC
All we need is (1) to work with at any given time and it does not have to be a single chosen "ONE", like bitcoin.
It can be almost any of them that are built to last.

So, if the value is not in the bitcoin itself, then it has no specific value other tha nit's primary purpose for which it's most useful. the ones I just outlined.
Thought?

I agree with the first point, and that's why people are prepared to pay more for Bitcoin than say, the equivalent share of Feathercoin.

But I wouldn't go so far as saying its "fair price" is $0... it's like saying "hey, an online payment gateway only has any value if tonnes of places accept it... and that's why the value of paypal is $0"

On another note, say something with genuine improvements on Bitcoin come along, like Peercoin or Zerocoin, the improvements are not going to be so dramatic that every vendor in the world switches at once.

So if in some distant future when some new cryptocurrency comes out that solves some huge problem that cannot be solved with Bitcoin, the price of Bitcoin will still not suddenly drop to zero; people will take their time switching, because all the benefits of Bitcoin will still exist, and it will still be the most widely used.

I like your site looks good. Maybe add a legend indicating which line is Bitcoin and which is Gold.

Quote from: t1000
Your site looks good. Looking forward to the prices.

Also:

Gold: supply not capped. Creation through nuclear transmutation already achievable through current technology. (so there's only the economic practicality left to sort out)
Bitcoin: supply capped to 21 million. Creation other than from mining reward practically impossible.

Thanks for your feedback, I have added the color code, prices, and that nice little fact.

Re: Taking a loan to buy bitcoin
by
coinballer
on 03/12/2013, 08:57:36 UTC
I think everyone knows bitcoin is in bubble mode right now, 12B in market cap isn't justified by the amount of transactions that occur, alot of the money in BTC is speculation. The amazing thing about BTC though is that it still has the potential to rise significantly. I could see 10k a coin.

I couldn't care less if a BTC is ever used in a point of sale transaction.  There are many investors like myself who only see it as a store of value to be cashed in/out at exchanges.

Just to add to this, this doesn't necessarily mean "cashing out" to profit. Store of value isn't about day trading. It's just a store. It stays there until it's needed.

The department keeps arguing against bitcoin with these points.

1) Bitcoin is deflationary and it will cause it to fail. (facepalm)

2) Bitcoin is doomed to fail because people hoard it instead of spending it. No Economy exist.(facepalm x2)

3) Nobody uses Bitcoin for anything (Not Mainstream=Not real???) (Facepalm x 1,000,000)

Maybe you can quote one of the papers on how much Bitcoin is currently in circulation as a medium of exchange and compare that with how much Bitcoin is currently being used for store of value.

If you do, also post it here; I am interested to know.

Also, 12 hours is much to long in my opinion. Other time slots should be available as well, down all the way to 10 minutes. But that's just my opinion.

We've taken your opinion on board and lowered the time to 1 hour. Enjoy!

It has been a few days since I won a game and haven't received the payout. I just haven't been paying attention.

Address deposited to win: 18fKRR3uPs457HfiedRnXnEX9sxeDwzu6u

Please send the payout.

Really sorry about that, the payment has gone through now.

Interesting concept but not one I'll be participating in...
Hopefully it's also enjoyable for spectators!

Hmm.... do the transactions have to be confirmed?
Nope! The game state should change right after you send your coins (we just fixed some bugs, sorry about that!)

Thanks for the feedback! Our reasoning for picking 12 hours for our prototype here is that we wanted players to feel they have time to get a good nights sleep before resuming play. We will definitely implement the variable time slots in the future, but in the meantime we can change the fixed value for new games. What timer value would you rather see?

My deposit has 3 confirmations, and still hasn't shown up as a participant...

Something up?

my deposit address is:

18fKRR3uPs457HfiedRnXnEX9sxeDwzu6u

We did make a mistake, thanks for letting us know. Your deposit is now showing on the game board. Sorry about the delay!

Our back-end game engine had crashed because of a recent update. We have tracked down the bug and it has now been fixed. We have added additional checks to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Hmm.... do the transactions have to be confirmed?

Cause if it comes down to the wire, and I put more in at the last minute... does it count?

Also, 12 hours is much to long in my opinion. Other time slots should be available as well, down all the way to 10 minutes. But that's just my opinion.

Sounds fun!
Also, Do you have to be ahead for 12 hours straight, or be ahead at the end of 12 hours?

Transactions are instant and do not need confirmations. The game state should change right after you send your coins.

You need to be ahead for 12 hours straight, the timer resets when a player adds more than his opponent.

12 hours is quite a long time, we intend to add some options, so you can have shorter games, at the moment 12 hours is a compromise as we have relatively small numbers of players.

Re: [ANN] Coinballer.com - The most intense bitcoin gambling site!
by
coinballer
on 05/09/2013, 15:03:58 UTC
This is actually a great concept and deserves more attention.

It's so simple yet has no much potential.

There are flaws though with trust... As you could essentially bid up every game for as long as you don't exceed how many Bitcoins you own. If that ends up happening there'd be a high chance you wouldn't pay out. But yeh.

I'm glad you like the concept!

One of the things we can do to mitigate the risk for users, is to put up a relatively large collateral with a trusted member of the forum here. So that if we were to ever disappear or run off, (which we have no intention of doing), the collateral could be split up between members who lost money to us, and we would lose all of the money we gave the trusted member.

If people are not playing because of a lack of trust in our site, we will do it. The main reason we haven't yet, is that the members on the forum who are advertising escrow type services, charge 1% or more to hold your funds.

For your particular attack, one way that you might discover we are doing it, would be the fact nobody "known" would ever seem to win. Since we would win every game until we went bust/disappeared. The one major attack I think people should be concerned about, is if we just wait for a big game to happen, and clear out both players and disappear.

Hmm, what kind of promotion or incentive would you be interested in?

Hopefully lots of people have fun!

Free giveaways/bonuses :-)

Hehe, fantastic, it seems we will have to run a promotion and add some bonuses to get the games started!

We will add them soon, just after we sort a few other things out.

So the person with the most bitcoins in their wallet wins?  Lame.

Well, yes, the person who puts the most bitcoins in their coinballer address wins.

It isn't so simple as just "who has the most money" because you don't know who has the most, you need to be quite ballsy to put a lot of money up.

Of course, we wouldn't have built it if we thought it was lame!
