Honoring Hal Finney
by
coinguycanada
on 30/08/2014, 02:33:47 UTC
I was wracking my brain on a way to honor Hal, and this is the idea I came up with. I shared on Reddit, Twitter, and other places, but I thought I would share here too. I propose we rename 0.0000001 BTC as the Finney. Just as we honor Satoshi for 0.00000001.

Or using scientific notification:

1e-7 BTC = 1 finney
1e-8 BTC = 1 satoshi

You can see other comments/discussion on Reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2ewp3z/i_propose_we_rename_00000001_btc_as_the_finney/

Not sure how something like this becomes official, but I guess if enough people use it, then it becomes part of the Bitcoin language.

Re: What is the BEST forum software available today?

My vote is for http://vanillaforums.com - obviously the software I use to power my site. As for the question of two factor authentication, you could use Google Account using their social connect and use Google's two-factor authenticator to protect you.

The reason I chose Vanilla  is because it's more flexible, better looking and easier to administer than any other option I found.

I am moving draft date to September 29th 8 PM (EST), the last Sunday before the season starts. Hopefully this will give more time for us to gather more participants.

Re: [ANN] Canada's Bitcoin Community: New Website

Sorry, haven't been here in awhile. We got caught in the CoinUrl  fiasco, along with many other sites. It was not malware on our part--site  has always been clean:

Anyway, long story short: Coinurl was removed, and we have just redesigned our site to make it even more fun. Hope you like the new look Smiley

Montreal Version of Satoshi Square?
by
coinguycanada
on 07/08/2013, 00:57:07 UTC
I wanted to know if there was an interest in having a Satoshi Square type meetup in Montreal. I was thinking of holding it at Victoria Square during a lunch hour, 12-2pm, during the work week. I am aiming for the last week of August. Please let me know here or this thread at the Canadian Bitcoin Community: https://www.coinforum.ca/discussion/290/satoshi-square-montreal if there is any interest....

I agree it's concerning that there is not more official news, but it seems to be resolved according to Google

$4 per month for external hosting is okay IMO.

I self host. I like to have the data on my servers instead.   Grin  Call me paranoid :p

I really think google is getting way too much in the loop of things these days.  I wish btc sites would stop putting them in for analytics and such all the time at least.   For that matter I am tired of cloudflare backed sites.

That's why I use piwik analytics, I don't trust Google: http://piwik.org

I've disabled coinurl for now on my site. Every user I had was getting a warning and it was killing the traffic, not to mention my inbox with queries. I hope it is resolved, but i guess better attention needs to paid to the ads that are approved ---something had to slip through.

I can't but 100% agree with you. One of the great things about our community is it's Canadian centric. Lots of the Canadian players are there, as are founders of local bitcoin chapters and members of the Bitcoin Alliance. I know sometimes its hard when there is "another" community. With this in mind we give the option of social logins and you can also subscribe to any category via RSS. We have a nice contingent of users from Vancouver and BC in general so it would be great to see your contributions there as well. I think Bitcointalk is great for overall ideas and discussions, but when it comes to regional growth, I think our community has a lot to offer Canada and Canadians coast to coast Cheesy
