Yes, you will need some ether usually less than 1 ether to cover the transaction cost which is refereed as "GAS". The exact gas will depend upon the size of the transaction.

I didn't invest but I could've made the same mistake as you guys, I did the spanish translation. It's an obvious scam, I've sent a pm to him offering my services and he didn't reply. He also didn't provide ANY extra information, no social media profile, photo, nothing, all promises and "good faith" that he's working, red flags everywhere.
