Thinking about adding graphics cards to these machines... Can't really decide.

Aren't they too short?  Or do you know of a good low profile one?

He'll be able to detect the EMF radiation/ pollution from that distance with a mass spectrometer. :/

Have you ever heard of EMF radiation sickness ?

Have you ever used a MS?
Did you know that 2.4GHz is way less dangerous for you than visible light?  Do you live in the dark?

I don't think you need the backplane, you can just attach the psu to the blade.

Now, you are being silly. He obviously referred to the other device - the Williams AC unit.

That looks like a furnace, not AC.

You could use a persistent live USB instead of a full installation on USB.  But you need to permanently install the software unless you want to re-install it every time.

Whether an updated install is more secure than an un-updated install is difficult to answer.

I would just disable the network in /etc/network/interfaces by setting some dummy value.  I think that wouldn't keep it from giving the annoying waiting for network message on boot?

Very nice tutorial!

I was thinking about a variation: use virtualbox to install Debian inside windows.
The virtual machine would have no network, and an encrypted lvm. I would share files between windows and Linux by sharing a host directory with the VM.

That way, I wouldn't have to reboot each time...

I realise this setup would be a little more vulnerable, but I guess it would still be reasonable.
Or am I missing something?

Every method has a tradeoff of convenience vs security.  Just like in the real world you keep X$ in your wallet that you carry with you, Y$ in your safe, and Z$ in Fort Knox.  Everyone has to decide for themselves what tradeoff they can live with.

You should at least sign something to prove you own the BTC.  No one is going to believe you're selling so low.  Alternatively feel free to send me all 10 and I'll let everyone know you're reputable!

How do you make a good backup for your wallet? Do you just write down the seed and thats it, or is anyone doing anything with private keys? I am using electrum just in case anyone thinks of a good backup solution for this type of wallet.

I also assume that not many people save all their bitcoins in just one wallet. Am I right?

The seed can generate all the private keys, so you just need the seed.  It's nice that way because with bitcoin-qt you have to back up all your private keys (which increase over time)

I am becoming more convinced that Bitcoin is better to hold onto than USD and that USD will have to fail. I wish we knew how long though until it crashes. I can totally see why we look completely crazy to outsiders though haha! ....being all lame on our bitcointalk forum, prophesying a collapse of a nation. No one wants to face reality, everyone is distracted by their stuff, USD, and it is a general human condition for someone not to believe something simply because they don't want to believe. Americans are spoiled and do not think something bad can happen because we are blinded by our prosperity.

You have the opposite problem -- your debt has caused you to cling to even the smallest hope that bitcoin will make you rich.  So you're blindly hoping that the dollar crashes because then you think you'll be OK.  You're the one who is blinded.

You should just fix your debt problems.

Interesting...there's no trust ratings; could've sworn I saw that there were trust ratings a couple days ago. Can people delete their previous trust ratings?

It doesn't show them on some parts of the forum.

Re: Question about private key & if my bitcoin adress is safe to use?
by

Why not get a wallet address that has not been encrypted then once you get the address (wallet.dat) encrypt it yourself with a key he has never seen. It seems much more logical. why he needs to generate a key at all is confusing to me, why not just generate the wallet address export the wallet.dat file and then allow the new owner of the address to encrypt it himself (UNLESS) he does plan on stealing the bitcoins from that address.

That's not how it works.  The wallet.dat includes the private key.  Encrypting the wallet.dat does no good if someone else has a copy.  It's like you putting your credit card number on this website and then making a file containing that credit card number and then encrypting it.  Who cares if your copy is encrypted as long as others have the private key.

If you really want to mine then buy the cheapest ASIC (< $200) you can find.  The cheaper you buy the less money you'll lose.

It's not safe, especially if you're new to bitcoin.  You can actually make one yourself with the vanitygen software (download it to your computer).  But, you shouldn't reuse addresses anyway.  I'd recommend to steer clear of vanity addresses until you're more familiar with bitcoin.

You could at least encrypt your wallet with truecrypt (password and smartcard) I guess.

I'm not sure if that would matter because if they have access to your computer then they can decrypt your private keys with just your password.  Is there a 2-factor decryption protocol somewhere?
